  1. Don’t know about the NES games but it’s better than Yoshi’s Island.
  2. 71 Games and only a handful are in the 200-300$ range. I’m about 50% into this set. Taking things slow cause I hate paying 50-60$ +shipping on ebay for the games lol. Most are super easy to find CIB and sealed. I think the Atari 2600 is probably the hardest set to complete. Some carts will almost never surface.
  3. I’d point point out that SMB3 has more random secrets than SMW: The coin ships, puzzle cards and all that. And there are bonus screens in some levels I’m not even sure I could get to without using Game Genie codes. And the reward might be some crap like a music box. But it makes things interesting to actually use cheats to explore everything, see what gives. And the fact that you can’t replay levels (which I think is weak) means that, for example, catching a whistle will lock you out of a stage, and not being able to dive back in _might_ create a form of longing, like you wish you could go back but you can’t. Where SMW’s secrets are pretty much all formatted around finding the other exit(s), but this leads to having like, one huge secret which really impacts the game instead of dozens of small random ones that are just cool to discover. I still think SMW is the superior game. Graphics, music, new mecanics, controls, Yoshi, World Map and save feature. As opposed to @AirVillain’s sentiment, whenever I’m playing SMB3 I sorta wish I was playing SMW instead. And since SMB2 USA is my favorite NES Mario: SMW>SMB2>SMB>SMB3 Still love 3. But yeah, SMW IS great even when compared to SMB3.
  4. Hm. HM. I’m thinking it’s something dumb like Ready 2 Rumble Boxing for the Dreamcast.
  5. I much, much prefer playing Super Mario World overall. The fact alone that you can trek back and forth across the entire world map and replay any level really gives SMW that modern edge SMB3 needs. edit: SMB2 is fantastic and is a true Mario game. My favorite of the NES Mario games.
  6. Did anyone mention StarFox 64? I’ll talk about the Nonary Games series. I really liked 999, so much so that I actually 100%’d it which is something I rarely do. I really wanted to see all the scenes, do all the puzzles and get all the endings. It made me want to collect the other games in the series, so I did. And eventually I played the sequel Virtue’s Last Reward. 5 minutes in and …. Uh oh. Oh no. This is one of those specific cases where the gimmick doesn’t work twice on me. Sort of like watching the sequels to the movie Saw. You KNOW what tricks are being pulled and nothing is done to make it interesting again.
  7. Feels harsh to give it 4/10, but the description there matches my feelings. Quest 64 would have been considered brilliant if it was released as a 3DO title.
  8. This. arcade: concave guitar props: convex
  9. Not exactly a personal favorite of mine, but gave it 9 because everyone should play it.
  10. Got this ROB with Caution labels still attached to the gyro spinners. How common are these? Admittedly I haven’t seen that many Robotic Operating Buddies over the years, but it’s the first time I see these.
  11. God damned stupid piss shit butt idiot ebay buyer. Tl;dr buyer asked me to ship to an address that isn’t theirs. I informed them that I would not, suggested that they update their ebay address prior to buying. They didn’t, and still bought the item and so I cancelled the order.
  12. Oh yeah I meant to talk about the thriving homebrew scene, too! Good points man. The Evercade probably did generate some interest in the Lynx. But I’ll tell you what, I actually think there isn’t anything in the Lynx’s library that can’t be experienced elsewhere in a better form somewhat. So if you already own better hardware, there’s very little reason to revisit Gauntlet or Rampage here. And so this is one case where the optimal Lynx experience is probably the 1-2 combo of nostalgia + original hardware.
  13. The games aren’t rare at all. They're just not in the wild. Lots of CIB and Sealed remain since they sold poorly and there’s plenty of old new stock going around. Just not in the wild. Companies like best-electronics bought a lot of Atari stuff when it was liquidated and by now, most of the stock is in such companies and other commercial minded entities’ hands. I can buy pretty much any game at any time. Almost. The rarest game is probably the 1993 release of Double Dragon. Super late release by Telegames so stores didn’t see that many of them. Telegames is still selling them tho, and eventually I’ll buy one of their re-releases. I feel like it’s legit since it’s really the same company making and selling the game. Other notable « heavies » are Asteroids/Missile Command, Pac-Land, Ninja Gaiden III and Battlezone 2000 I own Asteroids/Missile command. My favorite titles are the two shmups Zarlor Mercenary and Gates of Zendocon. I have plenty of nostalgia suffer from stockholm syndrome for Batman Returns which I had as a kid. It’s a brutal game. In the above lot my favorite grabs are Hockey and Ishido, and the more « valuable » titles there are Hockey, European Soccer and Ultimate Chess which are in the 30-40$ range according to listings on pricecharting.
  14. Got this sweet bundle of Atari Lynx games from a Marketplace ad. It’s so rare to find these locally. I had a great price at just under 20$/game. This is about 50% filler but the savings from not paying shipping on each game from eBay was worth most any price the guy would have asked for. My favorite piece there is Hockey. It’s one of the more desirable games imo. Sort of looks like Blades of Steel (and has similar fights) but handles more like Ice Hockey with medium sized dudes. I’m now at 46/71 games for the full set!
  15. Well if my household is any indication: we have 1 Wii and 3 Switches. It’s essentially a handheld device so it makes sense to own multiple.
  16. 8/10 as a counterpoint to @Tanooki’s extremely accurate points about the game, I spent way more time on battle.net playing custom BGH games which did give me all the time needed to gather all the ressources and build shit tons of every unit and just send immense armies marching/flying down the map to kill the enemies.
  17. I’m a member on most major Canadian groups and it’s like @DefaultGen said, 90% of the activity is buying/selling and the groups are mostly comprised of the same people. Big time resellers and store owners have everyone buttering them up, down and sideways but it doesn’t change the fact that they’re cool people with vast gaming knowledge. I was once a member of CCJVQ which was mosty focused on the collecting side, discussions, help and all. I got kicked out for openly reselling a game I bought on the group so you know they take it seriously. I like the facebook thing the way it is, and it gives me an incentive to come here and seek out a more refined platform for exchanging thoughts and opinions!
  18. Super Mario Bros. Game starts, start going right. There’s a Goomba there. He’ll kill ya. But wait- you can jump. And if you land on it YOU kill IT. Nice. There are bricks, you can jump on them. But also under them and they sort of bounce. There are shiny blocks with « ? », jump under them. Mushroom comes out wtf. Touch the mushroom and now Mario is big, ok. Big Mario can break the bricks. And now you know everything you need to know to get through the entire game. The rest is gravy. And there is plenty of gravy there.
  19. Seriously that’s another thing, I am pretty « eco-minded » and selling pastic bags by the hundreds of thousands always felt a bit contradictory. Of course, the process of making paper bags, say for potatoes, is also heavily polluting but that’s a side thought now. Glass is technically 100% recyclable and re-usable so at least there’s that.
  20. Aw that’s awesome to hear. People having fun at work feels like a novel concept!
