  1. Koei maybe. I love RoTK II and the NES version is super good. A lot of their 16bit games have a good 8bit version. Taito and Sunsoft are pretty obvious picks tho.
  2. I can’t stay focused so I’m going back and forth between the following: GTA Chinatown Wars on DS. Been in my collection for a while and I popped it in for no reason. It’s a fantastic game. One interesting mechanic is that you actually have to destroy chasing cop cars to get rid of the wanted stars. Of course going to a Spray n Paint is also an option. So they basically used the GTA3/Vice City/San Andreas formula but presented it from a top-down view like the first games. I’m always getting sidetracked buying/selling drugs and purchasing properties lol. Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3 on SNES. Decided to beat the 3 SNES games so I pick up my SNES controller every other day to progress through that. Vandal Hearts on PS1. Among my favorite PS1 RPGs and definitely my favorite Tactictal RPG. I love the bloody kills, the story is what you’d expect (war, revolution, treason) and the job system is so simplistic it’s almost not worth toying with, except to unlock a special class but I’m not bothering with that this time around. Ken Griffey Jr Presents MLB. I’m about halfway through a season, playing 2-3 games every week. This game did not have the MLBPA license, but Nintendo actually used accurate player numbers, positions and attributes so what I did is pick Montreal and renamed the entire roster to match the ‘93-‘94 Expos (who would have won the World Series if it weren’t for the lock-out FIGHT ME) and I’m taking the team to glory. LASTLY, whenever I need a break from the previous, I play a translated ROM of King of Demons for SNES. It’s a very solid action platformer. There’s a lot going on there what with a double jump, a familiar that can attack, and levels where you morph into one of 4 demons! Try it if you haven’t.
  3. Here’re the latest mail calls. WNZ back at it again with the love for crap consoles. The Perfect General on 3DO was a rare ebay deal and the price was more than acceptable even with shipping and customs. Any longbox 3DO games comin’ in at around $50CAD is a solid buy. And I spotted a canadian seller on facebook with Lynx stuff (going for full retail CIB/sealed set) and he had a CIB Bill & Ted which I needed AND a loose Xenophobe as a replacement for the dead cart I already own. Now I can finally play what is arguably the best console port of the game. Fun fact: TPG was published by Kirin, of Plumbers don’t wear Ties fame, and the reg card has a mail-in offer for a free copy Plumbers which is worth a few hundred dollars now. I wonder how many people took them up on that?
  4. Well first my parents probably would not have picked it up on a whim if it wasn’t Mario, and I would’ve probably skipped past it as a rental if the cover was dumb enough. Like Shatterhand or something. Given that Wacky Races is one of my favorite platformers on the NES and I only first played it in 2017 or something, it’s safe to say that I would enjoy SMB2USA tremendously even without the « Mario effect » if I discovered it today. It’s an excellent game in its own right, definitely in the upper tier of platformers in the library. I will go further and claim that if it had sold poorly or released at around the same time as the expensive Taito games, it would be second only to Little Samson as a rare and desirable title in this era.
  5. Oh yeah they had a cabinet at my closest arcade and I spent many many quarters in it. I love it even if it’s way too hard for me
  6. 10. My favorite Mario game on the NES. The leap in graphics and gameplay mechanics between 1 and 2 alone warrants this. There’s different characters, branching paths, secrets a-plenty… what more do you want.
  7. Coming out of a bit of a dry spell here. One of the pawn shops I hit in the first post of this thread had stocked up and I was there to catch them slippin’ and haggle to score some gems. They had some really good Wii titles, notably Target: Terror and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, but they wouldn’t come down on price so I had to pass for now. They did however get caught slippin’ on Sin & Punishment and KoF Orochi Saga at $10CAD each, and as per their unofficial policy that means anyone asking will pay $4CAD. Score! Same for Wedding Dash and Bust-A-Move Universe, but they’re not worth as much as the previous games. Grabbed 3 N64 musts for about 60% of VGPC. Not exactly mint, the backs in particular are pretty shitty, but the labels are good so I had to grab these. Decent hunting. Total paid: $121,88CAD Expected value: $287,34CAD Gains: $165,46CAD
  8. 9/10. Everyone should play Ocarina. Because of its historical significance:P
  9. The Mandela effect is strong with Karateka because I could swear I played it on NES outside of multicarts. But yeah it’s a strong entry for sure.
  10. On this edition of best and worst I want to highlight some games that can be found on virtually every NES multicart. Of course international gamers would know them as standalone titles for the famicom, but I grew up in Canada so I had to make due. Best: In my opinion, no game can even touch B-Wings when it comes to multicart entries. The music is top notch and the « crash » sound effects that you hear when hitting enemies is entirely satisfying. The graphics are especially good for an early title and one of the biggest appeal for me is the game lets you select your weapon at the beginning of the game. (Hammer ftw) special shout-outs to Sky Destroyer, Warpman, Moai Kun, Circus Charlie and Battle City. Worst: Exerion. I’m sure this game is someone’s fetish, but if a demo was ever made to show how games can cause motion sickness, this is it. The screen is constantly scrolling vertically and horizontally. The background is always moving, but your ship and the enemies stay mostly where they are in relation to each other and all of this makes me nauseous just thinking about it. It’s otherwise a hella generic space shooter with nothing going on for it.
  11. @fcgamer very impressive! What can you tell me about this Romance of the 3 Kingdoms looking game??
  12. Voted no. There should be a reward of sorts, but not the « true ending ».
  13. I figured we’d segue into voice samples at some point. I’m really fond of the voices in Wave Race 64. Both the in-race announcer and the narrative lady.
  14. I see you doing that Wii thang! It’s true that New Blood does it well. Now I want to play the others to compare
  15. Inspired by the subs vs. dubs topic, let’s discuss best and worst candidates in categories, starting with voice acting. Best: Lunar Silverstar Story on PS1. Voice acting wasn’t as common in the mid-90s so I would expect the quality of earlier titles to be shit, but Lunar defies expectations by having the voices and dialogues all stick really well to the characters’ personalities, effectively conveying all their respective quirks and the more subtle tones required to understand some of the more mature relationships depicted in the game. Speeches never feel phoned in or monotone. PLUS the game does put emphasis on a character’s singing and they completely knocked it out of the park there. The tunes remain with me until this day. I urge everyone, even non-rpg fans, to give this game a try. Worst: My main offender here is another PS1 jrpg: Legend of Dragoon. Rose, falling to her death: « aaaaah ». If you know, you know.
  16. I never entered a tourney or anything, but I was legit obsessed with Tekken 3 in its days. Never met anyone who could beat me consistently. People would stop challenging me at the arcade.
  17. I played most of them and I sunk the most time in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.
  18. Damn Daniel!! Back at it with the white Vans! This week’s finds come from a thrift store and a pawn shop. First I noticed a « neighborhood help » type of store right next to where I was working and they had some games, including this Twilight Princess and The Darkness. CIB and 4$CAD each can’t complain. Then just today I made it a point to visit a pawn shop where I had a couple lucky scores in the past. It had been at least a year since my last visit and I felt lucky. Behold! They had some very good items in stock! Nevermind the price tags, they’re crazy. It’s worth noting that they had put up signs _in_ the store to encourage negotiations. This is one of the smaller stores where they keep the games in tubs and you have to ask them to pull them out. So what I did is pull out the games I wanted and ask how much the deal would be. For example, Crash n the Boys has a label for 99,99$CAD and the clerk told me I could get it for 40$CAD (vgpc avg is 58$CAD) so I piled some items like that. Individually they were decent deals, and bundling them up landed me an even greater deal. Total was 246$CAD and vgpc avg was 441$CAD. What’s best tho is that everything is in good shape and the overall quality of the titles is pretty strong. I mean, actual uncommon NES carts? Who tf brings those to a pawn shop anymore. God I hate it when they stick the price tags ON the label. N64 carts in good shape I have to grab those. PSX discs were clean and the cases weren’t all beat up. Good stuff. Total paid: 254,05$CAD Expected value: 477,07$ gains: 223,02$
  19. No Im just asking if there’s a better emulator out there for my NES Classic lol.
  20. Oh I knew. I’m only here asking if anyone managed to make it better by now.
  21. I don’t know man. In MTPO at first I thought the controller was eating inputs, but really it was me doing an extra press in reaction to what I saw on the screen. By the time I land 5-6 left/rights I am a full input behind. And in both Gradius and Life Force (I 1cc’d Life Force at one point) I can definitely tell that the ship moves a few pixels after I let go of the direction. Crash right into the ceiling or floor.
  22. What. Try Punch-Out and tell me there’s no input lag. It is hacked yes. My SNES Classic is hacked too and it plays fine.
  23. Has anyone found a fix for the NES Classic’s input lag? I just rebuilt my SNES Classic’s game library and tinkering with settings and box arts and all that and and it painfully reminded me that my NES Classic is 100% useless in its current state. So I’m wondering if anyone got theirs to run games properly. Are there other emulators that work well?
