  1. Facebook is a disease - even for stuff/groups you're interested in. It just attracts people with too much time on their hands. People arguing over the dumbest shit with the same topics covered over and over. I would recommend just deleting it. VGS is pretty chill, but doesn't seem as active as NA for better or worse. Hard for me to say though as I have been pretty inactive and have lost significant interest in collecting and gaming in general over the last few years. The attitude here towards gaming and collecting is definitely gonna be better than FB.
  2. I respect that and could probably get away with it myself. A flip phone with YT and google maps would be ideal. I REALLY miss T9 texting. So fast and didn't have to look at your phone.
  3. You say Tomato, I say Yamato. 6 is ok, but more of the same. The jet pack is fun but I still find the levels uninspired. Pretty quick and dirty to play through which I like. . Fully agree about 7 being well behind the other 6 and definitely has nothing on MMX.
  4. Agree with posts above about a casual/popular list then an actual list from someone who actually played through the library. A lot of NES games are insane simply by crap design. The fact that Contra and others on the list perform well immediately makes them easier than a ton of other games.
  5. I thought I was at 4/5... anyway, more than 1/2 way there. lol at 0/130 chicken tendies.
  6. Gonna have to push mega man 1hr achievement to 2022. No time for that kind of commitment left this year
  7. Yep for sure. They ended school early but I don't see many people cancelling last minute travel plans etc.
  8. 100 cases a few days ago, 220 yesterday, 400 today.. here we go.
  9. I am cautiously optimistic that omicron will be our way forward with 'living with covid', at least in places with relatively high vaccination rates. Our numbers are going through the roof here in the last few days with the first breakouts beginning a few weeks ago. Our hospitalizations are steady and ICU numbers remain low so far, even with the latest outbreak. It'll be interesting to see what happens going into January as I suspect numbers will peak with the winter weather, holiday gatherings, etc. If the healthcare system can handle this surge without too many people being omitted to the hospital or ICU and covid working it's way through the population at such a quick rate it should give us a pretty solid immunity, especially with boosters available. I think a lot of people around here have come to the realization that they'll likely catch covid at some point in time now that the numbers are beyond tracing and the case numbers are currently doubling by the day.
  10. Our infection rates in my province were extremely low for the last 6 months. There was 7 day average in the low single digits all summer for a population of roughly 1 mil. In the fall we began to average around 20 cases which were almost all tied to travel with no community spread. Over the last week we had one major break out at a mass event at a university which has now bumped up the daily case rates to around 100 for the last several days and created community spread. I understand the need to be cautious and limit the spread, but with our vaccination numbers being high (80% gen. pop. double vaxxed and over 95% for those 50 and over), mask mandates, etc. I just don't see what would prevent the local health authority from continuously imposing restrictions for the foreseeable future. At the beginning of summer the public was told that "75% vaccinated and living with covid" was essentially the final phase, and now that we're there, they've increased some restrictions solely because the rise in case numbers. It just seems like case number will inevitably go up regardless of when we decide to move forward.
  11. Our case numbers are going up with 'omicron'. They are slightly tightening restrictions again on Friday. I'm not sure what the end game here is as the vast majority of people are vaccinated, boosters are available, and vaccines for kids under 12 have also been available for a bit now. There is no zero case scenario and our hospitalizations (ICU in particular) are extremely low (currently 2 people in ICU). The change in vaccine rates are insignificant in the overall picture these days. I guess the health authority is concerned about widespread breakout and mutation, but again, if these restrictions don't end in the coming months I don't see when they ever will.
  12. ... and that's when they decide to pay. I'm sure a lot of 'high earners' skirt the laws and find loopholes that would be inaccessible or unknown to the vast majority of every day people. Not to mention they also get massive bailouts or debt forgiveness when the economy tanks.
  13. So being a stay at home dad or mom is 'staying at home all day doing nothing'? Yikes.
  14. One of my least favourite Mario games even though it probably has the best mechanics. 4/10. Probably give it an 8/10 if I was reviewing it and removed my personal bias towards lack of difficulty.
  15. I would say yes since there is a mental as well as physical aspect to it. I'm not sure why humans are so fixated on categorizing things though.
  16. Absolutely... very interesting indeed. The more I think about it the more I tend to agree with you and also realize the bias of living in the moment. I also think with the internet being such a massive, massive change for everyday life almost overnight in the mid-late 90s that it's masks significant changes made over the last 10 years. The same can be said about cell phones, where in the early 90s they were uncommon to own and then by 2000 almost everyone had one. Google Maps and streaming are ones I thought of last night that I definitely agree with. I was thinking about downloading gif files and short clips on Limewire or whatever program in the early to mid-2000s and now we can just insert them on the fly in chat/messages/forums. I would also say blutooth is another tech that has really helped over the last 10 years. I looked everywhere for a controller for my ipod touch in 2009 and now you can literally go to the dollar store and pick up a shit blu tooth controller. Same with wireless speakers and such... it's the norm now.
  17. Yeah, it's true that some of the tech built into the phones is pretty crazy but I don't think it's a drastic leap - more just refining what's already there. I could just be ignorant about the subject but most of the daily use is throwing filters over someone's face for the typical person even though I know there are superior tech for more specific reasons. AI certainly has made huge leaps in recent years, but again, I don't think a lot of that is applicable to every day life - but this could lead to major breakthroughs in the coming years. I do agree about EV and self driving cars making huge leaps. I remember watching a show on Discovery in the mid 2000s about self driving vehicles and it had an SUV with massive cameras and equipment on it trying to drive through a very basic obstacle course at a snail's pace. Can't believe these are on the road already with relatively little issue. EVs are great but long over due in my opinion... vehicles had remained relatively unchanged for the last century. I generally agree that some of the tech like AI, quantum computing, etc. could be a massive factor moving forward, but I just don't see the impact on day to day just yet. I guess it just boils down to what I said previously about not seeing as much cultural and technological changes for everyday life in the last decade compared to those previously. Seems like 2000-2020 has been more or a 'refining' era for already existing tech.
  18. some of the stuff that I see from r/antiwork is kinda funny too. I thought the subreddit was about workers rights etc. but it seems like there's a lot of users over there who want to have all the comforts of life without doing anything themselves.
  19. I thought I knew one of her songs but it turns out it was Avril Lavigne. 3?
  20. I think the majority of that was seen in the 2000-2010 decade... seems like phones have essentially been selling in the past 10 years on gimmicks and updated cameras. While I do think technology will continue to advance it feels like we are leveling off from the huge leap from post WW2 to the smart phone era. Maybe it's just easier to envision since it's already taken place and the future is yet to be seen. I just don't think putting touch screens and useless tech in fridges, cars, etc. is a major leap forward.
  21. With how fast things change I would say almost anything outside of a decade could be considered 'old'. Even watching stuff from the mid-2000s is starting to look quite dated, especially if it's technology oriented. I find it interesting to think about how some technology limits seem to be plateauing like phones, computers, etc. to an extent. Like I feel the difference between 2020 and 2010 isn't nearly as drastic as the decades between 1940 and 2010 (ex. the difference between 1990 and 1980 or 2000 and 1990).
  22. Also getting lumped in with co-workers with poor work ethic and then having to defend yourself or reach back out to the company AFTER you get fired is ridiculous. Sounds like this guy is trying to make excuses and backpedal from a very poor and publicized 'firing presentation'.
  23. 9 for me. I'd like to give them a 10 but for pure listening intent I'll stick with a 9.
  24. I finally beat Jurassic Park and I'm not feeling really any better about life. It's not a bad game but it's very sluggish and the movement in the buildings was definitely worse than I remember. The game also gets very repetitive, almost to the point of confusion as you're really just walking around with the same weapons collecting key cards killing the same enemies in similar looking environments. I was initially pretty excited to replay this, but ended up being way more tedious than I had envisioned. I also played the bulk of it on an emulator but beat it on console once I figured out where everything was/where to go. Now just Mega Man 11 under an hour... gonna be tough to get this done whether I want to or not with only the month left. I'll see what I can do and I also have a new Switch controller which should hopefully help with the input demands of this game.
