Only 5 More Games to Complete your Collection

Recommended Posts

Imagine you only have 5 slots left on your game shelf and you have to stop collecting once they're filled, BUT any game is theoretically obtainable for those 5 slots (price and rarity are no object).

So ... what are your last 5 games?

(And be warned - this is a dangerous question because it already caused me to make a couple of self-induced FOMO purchases last week haha...)

Great hypothetical!

- Terranigma (SNES): I want to finish the trilogy, and I keep reading that this game is one of the greats.

- Rolan's Curse II (GB): Amazing looking RPG; I'm in!

- Gun-Nac (NES): STG, must have...

- Sapphire (PCE Duo): STG, must have...

- Shinrei Jusatsushi Tarōmaru (Saturn): Everything I've seen of this game looks awesome!

...I'll get there eventually.

With those kinds of rules I may as well swing for the fences and go for prototypes. If I could magically reach into the past and resurrect stuff that does not exist anymore (at least I don't think this one is still around) then I'd look for the oldest known video game (I think it's Draughts from 1952) and nab that as well. I already have plenty of games I enjoy playing

That would be more of exploiting the rules of the question to get unobtainable stuff though. In terms of stuff that given enough time and effort I could realistically acquire I'd nab a few unlicensed games I've been looking for for a long time. Recently I found out some ex-Gamate/Super A'can developers made a Dream of the Red Chamber game for Sega Genesis, so maybe I'd throw that in as well

Hmmm.... There's a few systems I only need one more game to mark as complete, so I'd probably go for:

TG16 Magical Chase

Colecovision Wizmath

Atari 5200 Bounty Bob Strikes Back

Studio II Bingo

Intellivision Spiker

Some not-so-great games there, but it's always nice to finish a system.

Akalabeth (Apple II) - Very early CRPG
Panorama Toh (PC-88) - Very early JRPG
NWC Gold (NES) - Gotta complete my NES cart set, and this is of course necessary as everyone agrees.
Doom v1.1 5.25" floppy version - Not any earlier than the 3.5" floppy version but way cooler.
Donkey Kong red cabinet, converted from Radar Scope. I don't have room for this but if price/rarity don't matter, than space can't either.

I am only doing arcade stuff these days, but if given 5 left it would probably be the following (as of right now)

  • Bosconian
  • Dig dug
  • A dynamo cabinet so I don't have to switch between bubble memories and bubble symphony (my current one is Bubble Symphony themed)
  • Tempest
  • Missile Command

Honorable mention to Space Firebird, Gyruss, and Millipede.

Haha well I'll circle the blame back to you, since this question mostly comes from listening to you talk about "want-list" prioritization on Collector's Quest.

I can name like 3 I haven’t bought because of cost/lack of interest and then leave two slots open for the future?

1. Stadium Events to complete my NTSC US set

2. Magical Chase to complete TG-16 (I have the PCEworks but it isn’t the same

3. The SNES Life Fitness Exertainment dual cart - complete my SNES set

4. Slot for future use

5. Slot for future use

edit: if I can’t reserve slots 4 would be a NWC gold and 5…hmmm

I mean, I'd basically try and grab all the stuff I know would bankrupt me otherwise.

  1. Outback Joey Complete Set
  2. Magical Chase US CIB
  3. Elemental Gearbolt Assassin's Case
  4. Nintendo World Championship Gold Cart
  5. I guess maybe the Blockbuster Genesis Competition Cart?

Edit:

Actually swap 5 for NBA Elite 11 CIB PS3

  1. a 6-person X-Men arcade cabinet
  2. a side-by-side Skee-ball cabinet
  3. i don't know the name of this, but my local barcade had a 4-person Pac-Man cab where you tried to eat each other. It was always a freaking awesome time. They've since replaced it to one that is less fun, but i want that game!
  4. Mr. Gimmick NES game (US release. yes, i know. but this is my hypothetical want list!)
  5. [you know, my mind's blanking at the moment. reserved to maybe come back to later!]

my list is mostly games that i WANT, but don't have now, mainly due to space issues. So before i "complete my collection", i'm going to need a bigger place to house them all!

I’m going to go a slightly easier route than trying to pull the rarest most obscure thing I can think of out my butt.

here’s a top five games I’ve been wanting to add a complete copy of to my collection.  Really these kind of represent mental categories of games I still want. Not necessarily the rarest or priciest but just some of the stuff I’ve spent the most time fawning over.

1.  Balloon Fight - NES - there’s a bunch of black box I want.  This one is at the top of the list for whatever reason.  I like balloon fight even though it’s shitty.

2. Mike Tyson Punch Out - NES - top want from the dank titles I still need complete.  Beats out stuff like battletoads or duck tales.  Since money isn’t a concern, I want a copy with the letter.

3. PTO II - SNES - strong contender for favorite snes game.  There’s only a handful of titles on snes that I’d bother looking for complete.  Childhood titles & dank games.

4. Little Samson - NES - I’d love to complete this and upgrade it from my loose to CIB collection.  Collector porn jewel.

5.  Die Schlümpfe - NES - There‘s a handful of pal games I’m interested in and this one and der König der Löwen are at the top.

Ok I guess that’s it.  Just 5 things is hard.

Fun fact:  When I hunt boxed NES I prefer Rev A.  The boxes are more easily found in nicer shape and they are usually cheaper than their non-rev a counterparts.  I definitely don’t need to deal with an extra flappy thing that can get damaged.

I’d get stuff that is rather unique if price is no object. Something that would be museum like.

1. Thor’s NWC and other things he would have received.

2. SNES PlayStation

3. Donkey Kong red cabinet

4. Sharp x68000

5. 4 player Mario Kart GP DX (because this game is insanely fun).

For me...

1) NWC Gold or grey (I'm not greedy)

2) US Stadium Events (Have a PAL placeholder now...)

3) Cheetahmen !! (complete the NES unlicensed set)

4) 4-player Gauntlet Arcade Cab (Wizard needs food!)

5) NES Zelda Test Cart
