Uh nevermind I guess. I was going to go to bed in frustration, but something pushed me to another round, and I had a good flow going. There's a pattern that forms with a single coin block awkwardly placed under a high ceiling of blocks, all hanging over a pit, and I don't know how to get past it. It killed me here and that's sad because I still had good momentum. Maybe next time. But for now, new score:

So close to triple digits on my first attempt tonight.  

Edit.  Finally triple digits.  

 

There is a long jump that lands you on a small ledge right before a pipe with a Goomba that immediately falls off the pipe.  I've seen it several times and I've never been able to avoid this Goomba.

Left my laptop at work the last couple days, so I finally got to try this tonight. I am a tech moron. I am sure whatever is going wrong is my complete lack of an understanding of how any of this works. I don't know most of the terms, like mappers. I downloaded this zip from the first link and copied that file into the folder labeled POWERPAK. No go. Do I need to take certain files from that folder and put them in separately? Feel free to make fun.

Yes you have to extract the mapper file from the zip file and place it in the POWERPAK folder.  The file inside the zip should be called map30.map.

Does the powerpak method work for everdrive as well/?

 

alas my hands and mind are betraying me. Ever since my night where I was pulling off 100+runs every time, I can't even get close to half of my score. I don't know what's wrong with me. It's left me absolutely downtrodden though. I am probably hopeless to move anywhere further on this contest 😞

I'm also getting really angry at this game. There are far too many times now that a death occurred in ways that were out of my control. There's the blind jump onto a piranha plant with nowhere safe to land, there's the same jump but with a goomba that falls on top of you in a space too small to avoid it, and there's the goomba right after a flag pole which you can't see unless you run up to the flagpole and wait. On top of that, I've gotten stuck on invisible objects that freeze me in place (effectively a softlock), been minus world slid through pipes and into a pit on the other side, and had bad collisions where a turtle hits my feet and causes damage for no reason. Between my rapid drop in skill and my growing list of stupid deaths, I am really starting to hate this game. I'm considering just giving up, the experience is starting to not be fun anymore.
