Oh excellent! Congrats! I didn't even see it. I started using my head as a battering ram as well this morning but I had so much bad luck against Altus it kept annoying me from continuing. I had a run today that when I got to level 4 I was already at 400k but I shit the bed somewhere, I forgot how. Also at most I ended the first stage with 68k but I couldn't get it consistent. The one thing im happy with is so many people realized how awesome this game is! PS even though the contest is over, I wanna break 500k just for me to feel good! I think I might even start playing on easy for better control and see if I can break 520k!

You have so much more control on Easy that im not sure that would be entirely do-able on Hard. Most of it seems to be the way he's moving the head to destroy buildings as quick as possible. EDIT: Plus you can tank so much more damage and the enemies are weaker. You can run into enemies with the head and kill them and get points for it, but of course you take damage. So when draining for points, its essential because you can't shoot everything.

I was just confused by all this 500k talk cuz I had never seen anyone get close to it. Even with a game genie code of not being able to die I could only get 504k haha. So don't feel so bad @docile tapeworm. Even I was surprised by my 485k score when I got it. With that said Id love to see berts run!

Yeah (and the Namcos MUCH worse Ms Pacman), but I was talking about the gray shelled licensed NES versions.

The issue is although it has its own NES ID (NES-SD) it was bought BY Nintendo and renamed and re-released. SE and WCTM is, as far as I know, the same exact game with a different title screen. Maybe some different text. Little Samson/F2 are its own games entirely without any variant or re-release. Im in the SE as a variant camp anyway. I wasn't going total NA anyway. I think of full set as every licensed NES game that came out within its lifespan when licensed games were stopped being made for it. 1985 to 1994. Variants arent important to me personally for that. Like the Tengen/Namco Pacmans. But IIRC those are both different gamewise. Could be wrong.

I was doing that too earlier as well, and I only saw that 10-15k difference. I just noticed what I meant to say was beating the 4th level boss, not the final I got 489 with the GG code, 504k after defeating the final boss, Darc Seed.

Ive been doing tests and it never seems that much. Usually like 11k after beating the level 4 boss and beating Darc Seed. For the fuck of it I put on a game genie code that prevented me from dying. I just went HAM on everything I could, flying thru lasers, destroying every little piece of stuff I could to get points (except from one area that prevented me on hard but you can do it on easy. In level 4, that area with the 3 purple balls where the ground shoots bullets at you, you can actually get under there. There are shootable rocks under it. The points that I missed would have probably added up to 2000 away, maybe 3k. After beating the level 4 snake boss, I got 489500 and after beating Darc Seed, the games final boss, 504,200. Which is a 14,700 difference. Even with the ability to not die, I still have no idea how bert got that score haha. BTW if anyone wants to do some research, try this GG code: AVXTEISZ

So for the hell of it I went for 500k. I reworked my play style and concentrated on prioritizing killing enemies than destroying buildings, but still destroying as much as them as I could. I died at the final boss (482k) but on doing some research for points, I don't think you get points for killing the final boss. If you do it doesnt' seem significant. Saw a run going in at 453k and ended up with 464k. So I wouldn't have broke 500k so I have no idea how its possible lol. Id love to see berts run!

And remember (for everyone) bootgod isn't the be all, end all. Its only thru submissions that we have those dates. The website can be inaccurate purely because it doesn't have a sample of every production cycle. For example, how we found the sept 85 printed US SMB 1.

No its not a PAL chip. Its clear to see as both chips have "NES" stamped on them. Plus if it was a PAL chip the game would be running too slow.

ER no... all PAL version have the code PAL on their PRG or CHR chips. In this case, the graphics are identical to the US version (Hence the NES on the CHR chip) but the PRG is different (PAL) to compensate for the European TV refresh rates/PAL NES Clock speed. FWIW I wouldn't put any weight to all the different label versions. I HIGHLY doubt this is a fake. The chip date is early enough to denote a 5 screw.

I did not, and I was trying to be vague about the ending haha. Was there a Deja Vu 2 NES proto? I think it was on GBC but i'd like to put it on my SNES Classic

With Deja Vu I remember struggling with the end. Shadowgate I remember really really tough at the start. Uninvited seemed really short and simple even though there were a lot of items that we're pointless. Its been a while but IIRC Uninvited was the easiest for me at least.

Again im happy with my score! Ill see where this thread turns up later in the week. If I see a bunch of 5s i'll try! It also could be that I start on level 3, to get the harder levels out of the way. But maybe if you start at level 1 you'll go into level 3 with more fire power.

TBH I didn't even know it was possible! I never saw a score that high. Everytime I complete a run its always high 400s! Then again, I don't go around searching for scores.

You were right. I went in the boss battle with full health and got hit by the flame and it didn't kill me instantly. I know I have died from it to its possible I was low on life to begin with, or did actually get hit with a projectile and didn't even realize it.

Well I suppose you're right. In my head its NES cuz thats all I really cared about collecting haha.
