  1. Welcome! Feel free to lurk as much as you like!
  2. I've never read any specific articles about it, so I can't quote percentages or hours of screen time, but the risk seems to be getting lower with each generation of new panels. THAT BEING SAID, I played so much Rocket League (>1000 hours) on my TV that I do have some burn in from a couple of HUD elements. These HUD elements are very bright and static and I didn't notice them causing an issue until too late. Even so, the burn-in on my panel is usually not visible. On rare occasions when certain colors are present on that exact area of the screen, I can see it. No one else has ever noticed it, and it doesn't cause issues when I watch movies, but it sometimes bothers me to know it's there. Overall, I feel like it's not a major issue. Over the past several months I watched all of Wanda Vision, much of S2 of The Mandalorian, and several movies (including Tenet this past weekend), and never noticed the burn in. If you are more diligent than men and actually clear the panel noise regularly, it shouldn't be an issue. I still wouldn't recommend leaving it on CNN or other channels with a ticker for ten hours a day though.
  3. My wife and I actually just went out to a restaurant for the first time in a year after getting vaccinated. The surge of customers is definitely coming!
  4. I don't recall ever seeing a television thread on this site, so I'll just bring it up here. LG just announced pricing and more details for their 2021 OLED lineup. The highlights are the new brighter panel on the G series and the addition of a ginormous 83" screen in the C series. I have a 65" E6 (4K/3D OLED from 2016) and have been contemplating upgrading. The picture on my E6 is actually still mindblowingly good when paired with 4K discs, but it doesn't support 120Hz and I really want to utilize that feature on the new consoles. I also have a 100" projector screen that we sometimes use for family movies or group viewing. I figure I could potentially replace my projector screen with the 83" C1 and get a huge picture improvement without sacrificing too much screen size. Anyways, to bring it back around to the topic at hand. Prices are coming down nicely for the base OLED models with the 48" A1 being $1300 and 55" being $1600. If you're really looking at getting the most out of your 4K discs, I highly recommend any of these OLED panels. Or better yet, get the amazingly reviewed BX or CX from last year when they get clearanced out.
  5. Easy 10 for me. Extremely entertaining with great world building and a really fun open-ended finale. Its influence on cinematography, choreography, and visual effects are still felt today. I'm so glad they never tried to make a sequel.
  6. Nice pickups for a nice birthday!
  7. If I had just invested my PolyMega and Pocket preorder money in Bitcoin, I'd be able to buy ten of each on eBay. Stupid preorders.
  8. @Webhead123 After playing for a few more hours, I'm happy to say the game gets significantly better after you move outside of the city. I think the game would have benefitted greatly from condensing the first three hours into about 90 minutes. Corridor crawls through bland environments are not the game's strong suit. As @fox pointed out, this is not an action game. If you try to play it that way, you probably won't enjoy any of the enemy encounters. That being said, the best stealth games still find a way to make combat enjoyable or at least intense and interesting. In this game, loss of stealth is basically a soft fail state and, in most cases, you have to do the section again. This type of trial and error gameplay has not aged well and feels like a way to extend play time. Story hasn't really picked up for me yet as it keeps bouncing from cliche to cliche, but the acting is good and the graphics still look great in 2021. I'm excited to see how things play out.
  9. I didn't start seriously collecting until the last five years, so almost every retro game I own was bought online. My sizable Xbox and PS2 collections were actually bought on craigslist before videogame prices skyrocketed. So overall it's probably 50/50 for me, but if you just look at the last five years and going forward it would be 90% online. Garage sale cruising and thrift store hunting just isn't worth my time at this point.
  10. Quite a few people were reporting them available in store so you might try checking your local Target. But yeah, it was the usual limited Nintendo product shit show.
  11. With March winding down and no updates, I can only assume our Super Nts are stuck in the Suez Canal.
  12. As far as I know, I was never infected with COVID, although I was exposed dozens of times at work. I was fortunate enough to receive the two-dose Pfizer vaccine in January and had absolutely no side effects. About 1/3 of people I know reported some flu like symptoms for about 24 hours after the second dose, but I didn't hear of any reactions to the first dose. Bottom line? You should definitely get any of the three vaccines that are offered in America as soon as you have the opportunity. They are all amazingly effective at preventing severe illness.
  13. Vacationing in Asheville this weekend. It's an amazing beer town with a ton of fun places to hang out. Checking out these Hi Wire brews tonight.
  14. The Layton games are great and a perfect fit for the DS family. I also adored the first one and found most of the puzzles pretty enjoyable. The series does get a little repetitive in both gameplay and puzzle type as it goes on, but I haven't played it in years. If you liked the humor and style of Layton, I'd highly recommend checking out the Puzzle Agent games on Steam. They move at a relaxed pace with a silly story and are a lot of fun.
  15. That may be a good idea here. Hopefully it picks up as I progress. Yes. Added Monkey Island 2 to the now playing list. Figured it would be a good low stress quick play game as long I don't forget what I'm doing.
  16. Take what I say with a grain of salt because I'm only about 3 hours in, but you would be wise to temper your expectations. The opening setup is very, very cool, but the gameplay has not aged well over the last 8 years. Even the story, which may have been stellar at the time, seems a bit cliched and generic now. I'm trying to keep an open mind and enjoy it for what it is, but it may be a game which is more enjoyable on the easiest setting.
  17. It's a bit much to type all settings out, but here is a Handbrake json file with my settings. Download link is only good for 48 hours, so if you miss it, just let me know and I'll post a new link. https://www.dropbox.com/t/Iw4VGce6nM8JEKfq If I remember correctly, I had to make some changes to disable some CPU cores to stop Handbrake from crashing my PC due to overheating. I think compression time was like 1.5x the length of the video. I was (and still am) using an i7-4790K @4ghz, so I suspect newer CPUs can complete the task faster and with less heat. Hopefully this gives you a start and you can find something that works for you. I highly recommend messing around with settings and looking on Reddit for more detailed instructions.
  18. Actually, 8bitdo has a new controller with back buttons they just announced. https://www.8bitdo.com/pro2/
  19. I've tried listening to BTS and I just cannot find any redeeming qualities. They are just one of those bands that doesn't compute in my brain. Dua Lipa's LP from last year was probably the best pop album released in 2020 (it actually just won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album). Definitely worth a listen if you like modern pop, even just in passing.
  20. Correct. The late MM3 and Mousecapade releases both have the yellow stripe graphic, but no promo text. They are definitely the laziest major box alterations on the NES.
  21. Welcome! Looking forward to rare comments on obscure games.
  22. I'm pretty lax about what is required for a "legit" completion, but the main requirements for me would be: No save states No game genie or game modifying device No turbo controller or other special controller that significantly reduces the required dexterity Things I'm personally okay with, but others disagree: Continues Glitches Codes If they significantly reduce difficulty (i.e. Konami code in Contra), I'd consider this more akin to completing the game on easy mode, but still legit. Strategy guides, hint books, and video walkthroughs Controversial I suppose, but hint books and the Nintendo Power Hotline existed 30+ years ago. We used to share tips for beating games all the time at school and go to each other's houses to show how it was done. The internet is the same thing on a bigger scale. I'm okay with different people setting their own rules for legit completion and I would never consider arguing about it. If you want to cheat and save state your way through the entire NES library and then brag to everyone that you beat every game, more power to you.
  23. Pro Controller when docked and the Hori Split Pad Pro when portable. The Pro Controller is definitely Nintendo's best modern controller yet, although still a bit behind the newer Xbox controllers for me. I've heard the Power A controllers are quite good and will definitely save you some cash. I find the artwork on the Power A controllers to be of surprisingly high quality across the board and I've actually considered collecting them just to display. As for portable... Well, once you upgrade to the Split Pad Pro, you can't go back to the standard Joycons.
