  1. I really want to play this one. Hopefully I'll get to it this year.
  2. I'm thankful for any excuse to actually sit down and browse through my collection, but my time looking through the collection didn't yield anything too interesting this time. Unfortunately I don't have any of those variants. Good luck!
  3. Isn't there a huge Sky Kid fan on this site? I need to look around for his post. Edit: Found him. @Nightowljrm although he hasn't been on the site in years. If he still follows, I'm sure he'd be interested.
  4. If you like old games and old people, you're in the right place. No, I don't get self-conscious about what I play because I don't particularly care what other people think. The best part about getting older is finding what you love and genuinely enjoying it, regardless of what others think. So go ahead and play Frogger to your heart's delight.
  5. 5/10. I remember it being okay, but even as a teenager I thought it was kind of juvenile. Definitely has a few memorable laughs and, for better or worse, influenced a ton of movies after it.
  6. Welcome! You've come to the right place if you're looking to document the obscure details and forgotten minutiae of old games. There are about ten competing databases being created by users of this site right now, so why not add another? Good luck!
  7. I spent a lot of time looking for evidence of other CIB copies when I was creating my variant list and also found zero evidence for their existence. I'm not saying the pop report is wrong, but I believe only a few boxed copies were created as proof of design and we're never actually produced in mass and sold. I'm guessing they released a cart/manual only version in South America, maybe sold directly to used games stores rather than regular retailers. I think the boxed copies that do exist were probably in the hands of designers and/or executives and have only changed hands in private sales.
  8. Absolutely. I have the PS3 remaster that came with the reversible box art and flipped that thing immediately.
  9. Never played although I always thought it looked cool. That box art is hideous though
  10. I have no clue. I'm not much of a tech specs kind of person when it comes to this type of stuff. I just know it feels sturdy and reliable and the screen is great. Maybe someone else can weigh in on the internals.
  11. And I have zero qualms with that. Everyone should play what they love. I think there is some level of objectivity when you focus on the technical aspect of gaming, but in general it's a highly subjective hobby and I love that part of it. I just hate typing "in my opinion" after every statement. Everything I write is my opinion! So hopefully no one takes any offense to what I say.
  12. Welcome! Sounds pretty damn close to my journey except I'm stopping at three kids and I bought a pool instead of Neo Geo games hahaha. Any specific collecting goals for the near future?
  13. That's libel and I won't stand for it! When I was young and dumb I used to think this movie was a 9/10 classic. I haven't watched it in 15 years, but I'm guessing it's more of a 6/10 for 2023 me. I think the chances of me ever watching it again are slim to none, but if I ever do, I'll come back and update my score.
  14. I agree with some others that the form factor is not the best, but the hardware itself is phenomenal. Love the ability to unlock more cores as well.
  15. I had a similar experience with Secret of Evermore. I was 100% convinced as a kid that the game had a two player mode where the second player could control the dog. Both my cousin and I swore that we had played it like that before, but when we rented it again, we couldn't get it to work. We tried for hours, pushing every combination of buttons possible on the second controller, but eventually gave up. This was before the days when every single fact could be easily located on the internet, so we eventually ran out of ideas and gave up. Looking back on it, I have to assume that we had played Secret of Mana in multiplayer and our brains transferred that experience to Evermore, but it's still crazy to remember something so vividly and find out it's completely false.
  16. No, I just followed my heart which led me away from Heart.
  17. For me it all boils down to fun. Gaming is something I do to experience joy. That can be broken down into different forms of fun, but it's really that simple. If a game is not fun, I don't play it. Now, if we want get a little more academic, I could probably come up with a few categories of fun. Simple Joy (Uncharted, Grand Theft Auto, Mario) Mentally Challenging (Myst, Tunic, The Witness) Dexterity (Celeste, Doom Eternal, Super Meat Boy) Competitive (Rocket League, Halo) Pure Difficulty (Dark Souls, Hollow Knight) Obviously there is a lot of overlap between these different types of fun (particularly dexterity and difficulty), but it provides a nice jumping off point for discussions on why I enjoy certain games.
  18. I loved that game. For me, Uncharted 4 is the pinnacle of the big budget, linear, action adventure games that Sony does so well. This is a Summer event popcorn flick that goes down easy and let's you completely shut your brain off for a few hours. Gameplay is standard fare, but you get those bombastic set pieces (the drive through town and over the bridge was my favorite in 4) that are ridiculously entertaining. Uncharted games will never be among my all-time favorites, but I love the experience of playing through them. Still need to boot up Lost Legacy at some point.
  19. The meta stuff in that game is so great. Thankfully I had (and still have) the actual game with the case, so I was able to figure it out. There is actually a great reference to the Psycho Mantis boss fight in the recently released game, High on Life. I'm with you though, I usually try to avoid looking things up since I get so much satisfaction from solving puzzles. That being said, as I've gotten older and busier, I have no qualms about pulling up a guide to see if something in game is worth doing. Spend ten hours pixel hunting to get some slightly better armor? No thanks.
  20. Apparently Wata graded one of these as new/sealed and it's up on eBay. Coincidence? https://www.timeextension.com/news/2023/01/random-wata-graded-a-2016-castlevania-repro-and-now-its-on-ebay-for-usd4000
  21. Come on, man. You're gonna drop that tease and not even tell us the game? Spill the beans!
  22. I think it should be more acceptable to dislike Hollow Knight. If you can power through to the end, it's a very cool experience, but the game has some serious faults, especially early on. I think people are too forgiving of it's problems since they tend to go away as you're hitting hour 10 or 20. I would go so far as to call the early parts borderline bad due to some baffling and punishing design decisions. In my opinion, a great game should be great from the start. Discovering new things should be just as fun as mastering them. Personally, I'd rather play any number of other Metroidvanias and games like Ori absolutely smash Hollow Knight. I did a longer write up somewhere else about my issues with the game and I'll share it here if I find it. Anyways, more power to people who love the game, but I certainly wouldn't feel bad or wrong for disliking it.
  23. I believe at least three of the six games have game-breaking bugs which make them unbeatable without a patch. Obviously most of us will have no problem updating the games, but it sucks having unfinished versions of the games on the cart.
  24. For some reason I can't resist these NIS Prinny collections. I've heard the games are super buggy and maybe even unable to be completed, but I'm a sucker for this stuff. Here are the three games my son got for Christmas (all for less than a single new game when I was a kid, somehow) as well as Observer for the collection.
