  1. I'm gonna step out of this conversation. I'm happy to agree to disagree. Happy Thanksgiving!
  2. Since Wata lost credibility (and perhaps we could argue if they did or not, but many believe they have), how do we know the top grades are legitimate? How do we know that lesser grades were not graded that way on purpose (to limit the supply of top grades perhaps)? Who is grading the games, what's the chain of command at Wata? Perhaps these "perfect" grades actually have flaws (maybe overlooked accidentally, or on purpose). It's hard to trust Wata and their grades. What is the exact criteria for a top grade? Would these games get the same grade from a different grader at Wata? Human error happens, I have a PSA baseball card graded 10, but obviously off center. Also, how many people own these sealed games that never intend to grade them. Perceived scarcity is a feature of Wata, not a bug.
  3. For awhile (the VGA days), I didn't mind graded games, although I've never bought any. My perceptions/interest changed when I saw Deniz on Pawn Stars. It's just gotten worse since then. There was definitely some wacky stuff going on the higher end, but things have settled a bit. I don't trust Wata or Heritage Auctions but perhaps they can rebuild trust somehow.
  4. We're talking about perceived rarity of a factory sealed game, in that condition for the first installment of the John Madden franchise on the Genesis. Sadly Karl is not just some idiot Youtuber, he will admit any mistakes and he does his research. Feel free to message him if you believe you are correct. EDIT: I just watched the segment and Heritage Auctions was the one who called the game rare.
  5. I enjoy playing retro games on modern consoles. Wireless controllers are very nice.
  6. Not sure if that's rhetorical. But (presumably) boomers want ramps and toys. Reviews on Pinside are mixed, but mostly postive.
  7. Welcome to the future! I know the game divides pinheads, but even if you don't like the theme or music, it's definitely fun, unique and certainly a challenge!
  8. I feel like the Golden Fox is good for the easier courses, but you have to get out front early and have a close to flawless run. I've had a similar experience with the Stingray. The Goose gives more of a margin of error. But overall there are many great players right now who know all the subtle tricks, ideal spots to boost etc. So for me, Goose was the only vehicle to give me a fighting chance (as I am not as good as many of the players).
  9. update I did trade mine in to a store in California. Totally worth it, good trade credit.
  10. It's a fun game. I've gotten 3 first places, most all due to luck and many hours of playtime. Usually the first place guy will crash or some fluke at the very end in order for me to win. The best chance to win in my IMO is use Goose, maintain like under 25-30 rank and save as many boosts as possible on the final lap, and then go hard as possible to victory.
  11. Dang I had a thread like this in NA (wish I could find it) and we agreed there on NA, that mini-game type games didn't count (i.e. 3 Stooges, California Games, Caveman Games). Here's a few more for NES; Platoon Golgo 13 Rescue - the Embassy Mission North & South Dick Tracy? Jaws? T&C Surf Design?
  12. It should be a Keith Elwin design as well...
  13. The rumor is Jaws is the next Stern, who believes that hype? Also Elton John from Jersey Jack was just announced. Seemed like a weird theme but looks to be fun to flip.
  14. I love pinball, I collect quarters so I can play on location. Sadly there is not that many pinball machines in the area. Here are my favorites: 1. Demo Man 2. Total Nuclear 3. NBA Fastbreak 4. World Cup Soccer 5. The Getaway (High Speed 2) 6. Godzilla 7. LOTR 8. Iron Maiden 9. Funhouse 10. Jurassic Park
  15. Thank you for your comments! I really respect your lists and dedication to the hobby. Thank you for clarifying and I'm looking forward to seeing more. Great work!
  16. I'm sure you have thought of this, but do you believe creating a rarity list like this focuses on the interests of Ebay sellers? Meaning, sellers are more motivated to sell Little Samson (especially individually and not in a lot) versus a low demand, "bad game" like Hatris. On your list, Hatris is listed as more rare than Little Samson, but perhaps Ebay sellers just don't sell Hatris as much or would rather put Hatris into a lot or system bundle to get rid of it. There is less of demand to buy Hatris. So it seems you would be tracking how popular a game is selling on Ebay, with the number of copies available not necessarily correlating to actual rarity. I didn't want to stir up controversy, I've always respected your lists and this question popped up in my head.
  17. How do I download the chart? Also @ThePhleo , could you explain your methodology for this chart vs. your older rarity guide? I love your knowledge and work on this subject. Especially if you could explain the "glaring examples" like Bucky, for my friend . I really appreciate it! EDIT: I see you added notes, pasted here: "Rarity was calculated by tallying up the total available market + 90 days sold market, then applying a median calculation to determine the "R5 Centerpoint". The R1-R4 and R6-R9 centerpoints were then calculated by doubling the numbers outwards to go from R4-R1, and halving the number to go from R6-R9 which gives us the final range. This rarity value is only relative for NES Collectors and is not a "universal" rarity scale that can be applied to even other regions of NES, let alone SNES, Sega, or other game collectors. R10 and R11 are basically made up for "The Grails" but one or two titles might slip in there by just being a R9 or even an R8 going through a 90 day drought."
  18. I love concerts and use to go to them all the time. Here are my top choices: 1. RATM - April 29th, 2007 at Coachella 2. Madlib, PB Wolf, Percee P, J Rocc, Kareem Riggins - December 6, 2007 at The Black Cat in DC 3. Radiohead - May 11, 2008 at Nissan Pavilion in Virginia. (notable due to it raining the whole time) 4. DJ Shadow - November 4th, 2006 at a festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina 5. (For the bass heads) Terror Danjah, Mary Anne Hobbs, Joy Orbison, Kode 9, Lorn, Roska - April 15, 2011 at 1015 Folsom in San Francisco Honorable mentions 311 in May 2000 at the American Theater in St. Louis. One of my first shows that I really enjoyed James Blake in April 18, 2013 at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz, CA. (notable because alcohol was not served and the show was in a movie theater).
  19. My guess the reasons would be hype, fun factor, interesting main character with a cool name, and strong demand. Compared to other rare NES games (Power Blade 2, Panic Restaurant, Flintstones etc.) Samson just sounds and looks cooler. Just my two cents.
  20. I've seen the first Iron Man and that's it. I am not a fan of these movies, they seem derivative and it's hard for me to tell the difference between any of them. And sadly the "star" is the comic book character, not the actor playing them. But just my opinion! I'm just not a big movie fan overall. Although the last movie I liked was Triangle Of Sadness.
  21. Best pick up on NA was from @arnpoly, I wonder if he remembers, But I met him in person on 2/12/15 and bought a Power Blade with a back swap for $20. Still in my collection today. Thanks Aaron!
  22. I went to a church rummage sale in 2018 in a small town. I walked in soon after it opened and one of the first boxes I looked in had a smoke grey n64, controller and Star Wars Ep1 racer believe. Almost brand new looking. I also picked up a sleeping bag and mat, cooler, a theracane and I think something else. I went to check out and the lady looked at the n64 and said something like is this "game stuff." I said yep. How about $10 for everything (including the camping stuff)? I said great. I recently traded the n64 for a PAL Little Samson with the hopes of getting the NTSC one day. Good times. And funny after I picked that up, I went to like 4-5 other sales and got nothing. I should have just stopped when I was ahead!
  23. Worst music on a game I want to play: Little Samson. I would have loved to have stage music instead of each character having there own song. Samson's is the most suspect, with some interesting parts but overall gets annoying.
