The Fly / Hellraiser/ Street Trash
spacepup commented on Reed Rothchild's blog entry in Reed's things
heads up, poll is not multiple choice. This is one of the rare ones I've actually seen more than 1 of the 3! hah -
Choose: Only play games you've played, or only play new games, forever.
spacepup replied to OptOut's topic in The Gauntlet
As much as I love the games I've played before, if I had to pick one, I'd rather have new experiences and enjoy new games, new stories, new characters, etc. I love all the old games I've played a bunch, but I love experiencing new things and this was actually an easy choice for me. -
We could talk about which Pokemon games are the best, or which Pokemon are most powerful, but I have a much more important matter to discuss: Which Generation 1 Pokemon is the cutest / most adorable?! Which one makes you gush and aww? Which one makes you want a cute little plushie of the adorable little creature? Now, I've included a poll with some of the popularly deemed cute pokemon, but if yours isn't on the list, please select Other and let us know in the thread! Page with better pictures of them: https://pokemon.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Generation_I_Pokémon If your favoritist most cutest pokemon isn't in the poll, don't take any offense! There is too much cuteness to fit in one poll. Now please, discuss! EDIT! Suggestions from thread: Cubone x 1 Dragonite x 1 Psyduck x 1 Meowth x 1 Gengar x 1

Game Debate #174: Castlevania / Legacy of Darkness(N64)
spacepup replied to Reed Rothchild's topic in The Gauntlet
I'm thrilled they went the SOTN direction, personally. I love that style of game, and I love the sequels that came after it. Sometimes, it is nice when the developers try out different things. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes people prefer the original format, and sometimes they like the change. But alas, this thread is about the N64 games - I tried to rate them on their own merit, and not just in comparison to SOTN or other castlevania games. It can be a bit difficult, given just how much I loved SOTN and other Castlevania games. In either case, I like seeing companies try out different things and taking series in different directions. As opposed to Mario Kart (which is certainly a fun game, no knocking it there) which is basically the same game over an over with new tracks. It's wildly successful so they have no reason to change it up of course. -
A Nightmare on Elm Street / Gremlins / Phenomena
spacepup commented on Reed Rothchild's blog entry in Reed's things
I agree with including Gremlins. It is another movie I saw really young, and parts of it creeped me out / scared me big time! As I got older, watched it several times and it is definitely silly, even comical. But it's a classic! -
Game Debate #174: Castlevania / Legacy of Darkness(N64)
spacepup replied to Reed Rothchild's topic in The Gauntlet
Somewhat of a hot take, but hey, you do you. Everyone has their own interests / preferences of course. I think SOTN is leaps and BOUNDs better than either of the N64 games, but we all like what we like. I know not everyone is into SOTN - though I feel it is pretty much the best Castlevania game I've played. Though the GBA entries are pretty solid also. -
Something Wicked This Way Comes / The Thing / Body Double
spacepup commented on Reed Rothchild's blog entry in Reed's things
I saw The Thing when I was WAY too young to have watched that movie, and it creeped the HECK out of me. I will fully admit that I had awful nightmares after watching that movie! -
Game Debate #174: Castlevania / Legacy of Darkness(N64)
spacepup replied to Reed Rothchild's topic in The Gauntlet
I ranked the first one, as mentioned above. Legacy of Darkness, I only played a little bit of it, a long time ago, so I can't really give it a proper ranking. I would consider trying it again just for curiosity, and from what I remember they refined / improved a few things, but it still wasn't amazing. I know sometimes the transition from 2D to 3D is pretty rough. I think this is one where they just really struggled with it, and giving the same 'vibe' that makes Castlevania really special. -
ThePhleo's 2023 SNES "Rarity Guide" (General Supply / Demand Guide)

Watching by as coincidentally, completely unrelated I'm sure, all the copies start disappearing from ebay hah! -
Game Debate #174: Castlevania / Legacy of Darkness(N64)
spacepup replied to Reed Rothchild's topic in The Gauntlet
I wanted to like this game, so much. It is rare for me to rate such a 'popular' series game so low, but I gave this one a 4. Going off the metric listed, 4 is definitely how I feel. I can see what they were going for, and with a lot more work and refinement, it could have been decent. I don't think the game is HORRIBLE, as in it is definitely playable. There are some sections of the game that are interesting. But it's not very memorable and the world feels kinda clunky. It doesn't stand out as anything special of a 3d action adventure, and it doesn't really stand out in the Castlevania series, for sure, so there just isn't much there to keep me coming back. -
We welcome alternative and dissenting opinions here at VGS, and in fact I think that makes a community better and more complex / valuable. What we don't welcome, are relentless attacks and derailing, which is what happened in this thread. Don't conflate the two and imply we only want a 'hive mind' because that is not at all the case. As I've said before, whether you, him, or anyone else is here by the end of the year, is completely up to you and your own choices and I actually hope that we don't see more flaming and derailing, such that everyone is still here. Now, stop derailing this thread further and if you have other comments about our handling of issues, please take them up with staff separately.
-
Enough. Just drop it and move on. Your continual negativity in this thread is completely unnecessary. And @Tanooki we don't need you coming in to fan the flames. Both of you just stop. If you don't like his purchase, leave him alone and move on. It seems you can't handle posting anymore in this thread, so please don't.
-
The unsubstantiated hypotheticals are not helpful. I don't know what the history is either with you two, this game, or otherwise, and I don't really want to know, but you came into this thread with a very ODD and unusual amount of negativity about his purchase, taking the offense about something that should have been just a simple thread here about someone sharing an accomplishment. Let this be THE end to it.

I was worried my Benny Bookworm was too stylized already and not in the spirit of what you wanted. The only saving grace I suppose is it's a very random character - although googling now, I can see there are other interpretations, maybe from other source material that the game actually pulled from. Sorry about that!

That was a good read and actually a very cool project. I think it's great that you did this with students, involving them in the process and then showing off the completed project / game. Stuff like this is awesome and I'd love to see more of it!

Lovely!!! Thanks it's awesome!

I imagine I'm somewhat in the minority for the forum which generally favors Nintendo, but I prefer PS1 over N64 by a very very significant margin. Now, some of the great N64 games are awesome and I have a lot of nostalgia for them, but the great PS1 games like Symphony of the Night and Metal Gear Solid, are much higher in my personal list than the N64 games. Both systems are fun and have good games. Overall, I think PS1 has FAR more games that I love, generally speaking, but I guess the thread is mainly about the "top 10" of each. Any top 10 lists will be subjective, so it's hard to really compare in a group setting as there is no list everyone will agree on. For me, games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, are excellent. I love them. But SOTN and MGS are in a different league - again, just personally for me. Additionally, I'm a big RPG person, and PS1 kills in that arena.

Btw, I meant to mention in my post @T-Pac, Thank you so much for doing this. It is always a super fun event that the community really seems to like, and you've been incredibly gracious and generous with your time and talent, doing this for everyone. It's always a blast and I can't wait to see what you come up with this year. Thanks for everything you do!
