  1. I love Pokemon, but for me, I am not too much a fan of these games. They are nice to play, but in my opinion they aren't quite as good as the other. I think part of my problem here is that I was too young to play these games when they came out, I wasn't around for the hype.
  2. Symptoms: 20EZ losing high voltage and is burning up the resistor R471 and was blowing the 300mA fuse. Solution: replaced the burnt resistor, checked the HOT to make sure that was still good. HOT tested bad, so replaced with a NTE89. Fired it back up again, same results. Afterwords I swapped the flyback as that can cause the same issues (and I had one off a working chassis on hand), this solved the issue. Chassis is now working just fine and is ready to roll again.
  3. Thanks for the compliment, no this is not how I rank my consoles (not that I even have a real ranking), it just sounded the coolest when said on xbox live back when I made the username in like 2010. I've never really been into vintage computers, but I almost bought a TI-99, the problem was that it was missing half the keys so I figured it wasn't worth the $20 asking price (plus the chance of it needing to be repaired). Ultimately I can do electronics, but I have a hard time replacing physical parts as they are not as readily available nor can I make them. I used to have a commodore 64, but I didn't own it for too long as I didn't really care to collect for it, it was just a cheap machine that I got, fixed, and flipped. Part of it is that I am a little bit younger, so I'm not particularly nostalgic for these computers, if anything it would be a windows 98/xp machine as that's what we had in the house growing up and that's what was in the computer lab at school back in the day. Ultimately, you should pick one up, it sounds like you would enjoy it. On top of that, they are rather common and aren't the most expensive vintage computer on the market these days.
  4. I don't really use encyclopedias or whatnot, however I do use what some would consider big books as references. I use the TTL Data Book as references for when I am taking a look at 74xxx parts. It is super useful and is better than rolling the chair to the computer to look up chips. I have the fourth volume on the way, which is for old RAM chips and Bipolar ROMs.
  5. I don't have much of a game room these days. But I got a little bit one one. I got more but I have no pictures at the momment.
  6. I frickin love System of a Down, I listened them for a large chunk of highschool and even listened to them earlier today because it's been a while. I saw them when they came to Detroit in 2015 and it was a really fun show. It's just a shame we won't see another album from them. I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Steal this Album, it's underrated in my opinion. Songs like ADD and Mr. Jack are great.
  7. It's fantastic. It takes what was so great about the first one and just makes it even better. (If you haven't played the first one, you should play that as well, it is also really good)
  8. Game with mario in it: Yoshi's Island Game where you play as mario: Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door I really like many of the mario games, but these are games I can just sit down and play at any time and be put into a good mood instantly. A close second for one where you play as mario is Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.
  9. Game - Donkey Kong Symptoms - Garbage on screen. It boots to the highscore table, but full of junk. From there it moves to the attract mode but mario falls below where he's supposed to be, game resets, and repeats this process. (Ignore the inverted color in the first picture, I didn't have an inverter board on hand). Solution - The board was originally missing stuff and had previous work (it was an 'untested' special on ebay). The previous work looked fine so I could start. I figured the problem to be a memory issue. I initially started on the CPU board, I figured since the game was resetting it was a CPU board. After probing around I I didn't find anything immediate so I moved to the video board. I started by piggybacking known good RAM chips on the board and saw improvement. It turns out that 2114 RAM had gone bad at location 2P. Socketed and replaced, game is now working great.
  10. I too can vouch for his work. Unfortunately I am not doing repairs for people at the momment. My plate is currently full.
  11. The supply should be adequate assuming it didn't crap the bed. I dont think that you need to put a fan, but maybe consider replacing the 7805 with a 78s05 as it is a more efficient regulator. First I would figure out whether or not that is the problem though. Pull the top lid of and wait for it to shut off and if it is hot to the touch, then it should be replaced. Just as a note, some people actually remove the heat sink off the regulator. If that was done, that could be the cause. But anyway, I think it's a heat issue, perhaps try another power brick, the original included power supply should be adequate from what I read, although I have never messed with any rgb mods.
  12. I have two guesses: either the power supply isn't adequate or the 7805 is heating up and is going into thermal shutdown. Other than that maybe capacitors are an issue. Be careful with aftermarket power supplies, some of them are pretty bad and will not run it well. Overall, in terms of power there isn't much to the NES, so it should be easy to narrow down.
  13. 2 and 3 are the only relevant ones to me personally. 1 is as simple as remembering your password and account info. Regardig 4, I've never understood games as investment, especially in the modern era. Sure you can buy all the games for $60 each (or what have you) and have a fraction be worth slightly more than the original. But that's none of my business as I am not looking to make money off my hobby. Regarding 5, that's a big no thanks from me, I have enough dust collectors as is. Regarding the disc drive thing, give it some time. All moving parts stop. It's a fact of life. It's great to hear you haven't had issues, but I've had several. It's to the point where I am kind of fed up with optical/mechanical media. That said, I am on the side of "you do you" in regards to physical media. I don't really care how I play the game so long as the experience is preserved.
  14. Companies are making it easy to move to digital as things get faster and more reliable. Heck, you can even return games on steam if you don't like it. For me personally, I think I am going to move more to digital for a couple of reasons, the biggest of which is I don't care to have a shelf full of ps4 or ps5 games. Reason being is that you just have to install those games anyway, so theres no real benefit for me to have the actual disc. Another reason is mechanical failures, I have had so many modern drives just straight up die on me, between my laptop, xbox 360, and a ps3 that I had for a week before returning it, it just isn't worth the hassle. And with games constantly going on sale, financially it has the potential to be cheaper.

    PS5

I'd go as far as to say I don't understand why they didn't do it for this generation. From a company's perspective, it reduces cost per unit of the product to remove that disc drive and increases profit gained on the games (assuming that the price stays the same) as they would be cutting out the middleman. On top of that, you'd think people would just be sick of having to install the game before they can play it as games just don't load straight from disc anymore as optical media is SLOW. Ultimately, by giving people a cost effective version, we are gonna see a move towards that. I'm gonna be honest, I'm thinking about just getting it for convenience. The only issue is that if the license expires and the game is removed from the store, then its gone forever.

The Playstation 5 is ugly as sin but there is a game where I can be a kitty so it evens out.
  18. Hey everyone with the monitors I have some good info for ya. From what I understand audio problems are a common problem with the kiosk monitor. This can be resolved by replacing the capacitors inside the TV. I have a nearly complete cap kit that I tried out on my monitor and saw success. I'll post the kit info later today.
  19. That's neat. I think in one of his previous videos, he said that he would repair rare devices like that. It was a fun video to watch.
  20. Mario Kart 7 for sale. $12 shipped to the US, overseas folk pay the difference in shipping. Tested working and whatnot.
  21. Wow it's almost as if they are out to make a buck. Who would have thought?
