  1. taking a break from wild card to play Final Fantasy on WS. It has SFC-level graphics but still keeps the spells/day system and other traits of the original (well, you can choose to turn on autotarget, but I keep it off to preserve the original design). Text is all in kana, so it's easier to read, even if I still have to look up some words here and there. FF players, have you seen how expensive poison cures are? I got poisoned in temple of chaos, and found that it's cheaper to just go out in the field and let the poisoned person die and then go to resurrect them, than it is to heal their poison. At some point I will have to pay out for poison heals though, because the temple of chaos is just full of poison-givers. I'm also revisiting Mario Adventure, the SMB3 romhack. Have you played this before? If you haven't played it and if you love SMB3, then you should REALLY check this romhack out. I don't know how to beat it, but it is really fun.
  2. As title implies, my sega nomad is probably overdue for a recap, and I don't have the time to do it. I would like to hire it out, and I would also like to get the SMS mod so that I can run master system games off of my everdrive. Would anyone know who I can go to that can do this for me? Most of the services I see on ebay want to do screen replacement/lens replacement/etc. but I am not wanting to do that, just simple maintenance and the SMS bit. Appreciate any leads to skilled and reputable people.
  3. My longtime is finally coming in the mail after a long time of quietly looking for a relatively cheap copy. It's called 電子遊戯大全 (denshi yuugi taizen), or "Computer Game Encyclopedia", a Japanese book from 1988 which sought to catalog every single video game release up to that point. It is an in-depth and unique writing project that explores games across the world, and I look forward to finally having a copy of my own. The other one is what appears to be an extremely obscure Game Boy magazine from Japan, 必勝ゲームボーイプレイヤー. I say it's obscure because I can't find any info about it anywhere, aside from some sites that compile game magazine info. They just say that it was published for a year before it closed up shop. I can't find anything else besides what is written in the Japanese book "Game Boy Complete Works". I want to read more about it, or even find the magazines themselves, but it seems no one has anything uploaded about it. So, that's my next search target.
  4. Depends on how many friends you have at the time. For pure solo amusement I would probably choose Tony Hawk 1 or 2, or House of the Dead 2. Two player is one of the many fighting game ports. Four player is probably ChuChu Rocket or Power Stone.
  5. Just trying to clear out excess, so trying not to be unreasonable in my asking. I will have basic pics up in a bit, but for now please read the descriptions. I don't have big money aspirations, so just message me with offers and I'll try and work with you. Framed Super Mario Strikers (GC) Promotional Poster I got this poster at a visit to Nintendo of America headquarters in Redmond, sometime between 2005 and 2009. I believe these were the same kind sent out for store advertisement or to promo events. It's a blown up version of the box art, which lets you see all the finer details in high clarity. I brought it straight home and had it professionally flattened and framed shortly after getting it. The poster has been in its frame since then, and only kept on walls or in storage, out of sunlight/etc. It is thus in really great condition, and the framing work of course high grade. Please send offers. Understand that shipping will be high cost, but will be well cared for. If you are in Western Washington state, then we may be able to work out local pickup. If you are interested in that then let me know. More pictures in spoiler below. Hardware: Pokemon Gold/Silver (NA Version) Game Boy Color - A little paint has rubbed off in places, but overall good shape for this kind of nintendo portable (too often they get rubbed off by normal use) Asking Price: 70 USD Silver Game Boy Advance SP AGS-001 - fully working, bottom of case in rough shape (I think the battery cover doesn't screw on anymore) but the screen looks good and it plays and sounds ok. Asking: 40 USD Pearl Blue Game Boy Advance SP AGS-101 - fully working, good condition. Very little screen scratches. Asking: 80 USD Yellow DSi XL - Japanese Version. A few scuffs on the case here and there, but otherwise good. Everything works as far as I can tell. Installed DSiWare looks to include a daily planner software, a kanji dictionary, and another I don't know about. I can go into more detail if you want to know more. Asking: 40 USD Black/Red 2DS - US system, good shape. Everything works as far as I can tell. Asking: 60 USD PlayStation, SCPH-1001 - Refurbished by Sony at some point. Plays games and CDs, loads memory cards, RCA ports work. I don't see any issues with it. Name your price. PlayStation 2, SCPH-30001 - need to check serial but it is a Fat model. Compatible with FreeMCBoot in case you are interested. Includes Network Adapter. Name your price. Software: Lagrange Point - CIB Famicom cart. Entirely in Japanese. Condition okay on box, manual and cart in good shape. Also includes great condition pack-in letter and advert for other Konami products. Asking: 30 USD Professor Layton and the Unwound Future - DS game, cart only. No issues apparent to me. Name your price. Accessories: DreamConnect II Adapter for Dreamcast - Let's you plug in saturn and playstation controllers into a dreamcast, as well as keyboards. I found that saturn pads wouldn't support shoulder buttons, but keyboard was perfect and playstation pads did everything I tried without issue. Very nice to escape the crappy dreamcast d-pad for shenmue or MvC2. I have two of these, and I will also pack in a japanese saturn controller with them. These are rare, so I am asking 125 USD each for them. More to come. Send messages if interested. Thanks all. Picture Links pasted below:
  6. I am not sure how to describe a system that I am considering selling. I did an exchange for a broken 2DS last year and got what was essentially a new console in return. It came in the refurb shipment packaging, but it was clearly not the same system. It looks untouched, but since it wasn't from a store, I don't know how you would describe it. How do collectors typically look at something like this?
  7. @Jeevan @arnpoly I guess I just don't know enough about DQ in general, much less 1, to be able to understand it all. My only thought is that by my recollection, DQ1 is very barebones, compared to the rest of the franchise. 2 onward has multiple party members, 4 had the monster party members, etc. I would think that a later game would make for more interesting randomizers. However, perhaps the relative simplicity is what helps to make it more manageable. Perhaps later games would either be too overwhelming, or have too many ways out of a problem, thus making it meaningless as a challenge. But, I can only hypothesize since I know so little.
  8. Zelda 1 randomizers make more sense to me. How do worlds get built for DQ that it doesn't end up with you stuck around high level monsters at the start or something? The "Dragon on Floor 2" problem as it is sometimes called in randomized dungeon crawls.
  9. Well in the case of playing the games, I usually advise people to at least try to start with the first game. If you hate it, if you think its boring, and if you just want to read a synopsis or watch a summary/skip through a longplay/see the final boss/etc., then sure, whatever. The most important part of games is having fun! If you don't think it's fun, then don't waste precious, precious free time playing it. Still, you should TRY the first one, and try to go in order, if only to appreciate why they were impactful or where the series came from. Plus, having tried the early ones, you can say "yeah I tried the first one/second one/etc. but X/Y/Z just didn't appeal to me, but then in the sequel/praised game, they did this and it really fixed it for me". Alternatively, you can just parrot what you hear online; Just be clear that you're sharing hearsay as opposed to what you yourself experienced (or if you felt the same, just say something like "they say this about game A, and frankly I agree, because B and C"). EDIT: Addendum, don't be afraid to try a game a few times. Come back to it over some period of time. It was 8 years between the first time that I played Zelda 2 and the first time that I understood and enjoyed it.
  10. It's a pun stemming from the similarity of the name to the word "manual".
  11. It's not so much that I always prefer that sort of game, just that to me, Wario is more fun in form when you play WL2 and 3 than when you play WL1. I'd say the same for Shake It, even if it's more like the first game. I just think it's more fun when you don't lose the power to smash and crash. Having deaths is no issue; I just want it to be always more interesting! The small Wario thing just feels like some Mario holdover anyway. I think they moved nowhere but forward when they ultimately moved to remove the downgrade from later games, like in Shake It.
  12. I only collect games or hardware that are personally meaningful. Don't care about significance to others really. That'd be like showing someone your 87 CIB zelda and saying "here is the first zelda" but then your follow-up is "oh I don't ever play it or really even like it, I just know it's important to someone else." Same would be true for whatever else game in a series. I'm not gonna collect FF7-anything if I don't like the game.
  13. I think it was ok to go down that rabbit hole myself. They are different, playing more like metroid than like mario, but I don't think that is a problem. I like that the games are simple, in that they don't force you to do a lot of block by block searching (wario having a 2x2 attack surface means that smashing your way through stuff doesn't take as long or require the precision of an arm cannon or other block-by-block clearing), and you can have a lot of fun just smashing stuff without much risk. While I like them, I admit also that WL1 and VBWL are a bit frustrating to me, because there is never a time that being small wario is enjoyable. That is as much of a "get good" problem as you can have, maybe but you would be hard-pressed to find someone who perfect plays these games, and so I feel it isn't out of line to say that I dislike it. It's kind of like Gradius, where losing all your power-ups toward the end of a later stage means that you might as well just game over and do the level over, because you are so depowered vs. when you had your power-ups that you will likely die in rapid succession. I have no doubt in my mind that this too is a "skill issue" since ultimately, 1cc's are the target of this genre, but at the same time, I have noticed, through admittedly limited exposure, that the gradius style of death punishment seems to have largely died off in the genre. I wonder if it isn't for that very reason (and correct me if that is wrong of course). My biggest complaint with WL4 was that it felt way too short. At least WL2 and 3 had a lot of stuff to do and levels to play (and replay). Yet, they managed to not overstay their welcomes, imo, in comparison to Shake It, on Wii, which to me almost feels like TOO much to do. 15 years later and I STILL haven't 100% cleared the game, and I have put a lot of hours into it. Some of the stage missions are just tedious, frankly speaking. I felt the same way about the GoodFeel-developed Streetpass games (Mii Force and Battleground Z) and so I wonder if that is just the style of the developer. I mean otherwise Shake It was, to me, an incredible game, so probably was just my feeling on their clear requirements. I am torn about having to pick if one or the other was superior, and maybe previous post about WL made it seem like WL2-3 were outright superior. I feel that way, maybe, but that is like saying you have to pick a favorite on two flavors of ice cream you like. It's not like I would be upset if I got the other flavor, and in fact I would go to it sometimes too! But, in this series, if I had to pick a style that I prefer, then I would pick the exploration games. WL1 and VBWL are good, but their style is, for lack of better words, not as good a fit for Wario, in my opinion, as is the exploration style (and really, VBWL already goes in that direction with the treasures, so you would be hard-pressed to argue that they didn't intend to do this even earlier than WL2). Also, you should play WL1 before VBWL because otherwise you might feel disappointed by how impressive the controls, visuals, and game design are for VBWL, which even if it is shorter than WL1 by a lot, I think is a more fun experience. I just can't say that going from a later game to WL1 would be a move upward, so start with the first game.
  14. Solid game, no reason not to recommend. I would say play this first, because if you play the others before it, then it will sour this one. VBWL is the same but short, and WL2/WL3 really hit the stride.
  15. you ever feel like sometimes games look TOO nice? Like, there's just a lot going on, but I dunno if the gameplay will be much different. At least nomura isn't here, apparently, so it shouldn't be as full of nonsense as his usual antics.
  16. Not my choice for best platform game series, but even if I don't super care for it, everyone should play mega man 2 at least once. And I'm someone who regularly rallies against being a brainless list obsessive who asserts "must plays" or who treats games like they're some "1001 best games to check off your to-do list to be a REAL gamer expert like your favorite youtube eCeleb fart huffer!" or who thinks they have to have played and loved everything on some crappy website's definition of "the best games ever". I think those kinds of things are absolute bullshit, and yet I cannot say that there is a reason to not play MegaMan 2 at least once. It's overall too solid, and really just timeless. 9/10, very good and no reason to really hate it, beyond making some contrarian clickbait video to farm hateclicks off of easily manipulated angry nerds. Also it can't be a 10/10 because that crash bomb boss in Wily Castle is just stupid.
  17. Cool. I might have to check this software out too. While I'm thinking of it, does anyone have a recommendation for an LSDJ tutorial series? As discussed previously ITT, the software is a bit opaque and I would appreciate a good step by step guide.
  18. OK, I feel like this is good to submit. It's an original composition simply named "Title Track". My first song, made in beepbox. I might do another submission later, or revise this, but I am happy with it for now. title.mp3
  19. I tried LSDJ once and it was a lot. I don't think it's a good beginner tool personally. I'm working on something but I need time to finish before I post. Hoping I get a submission before 6/30.
  20. I see! This thread is the first that I've heard of this stuff, but beepbox seems fun. As you point out, however, I should use Jummbox, since beepbox feels fun, but a bit limited.
  21. Interesting! I did not know that these existed. The only listings I see on eBay are for whole console sets, however, and at high shipping cost as well. Do you happen to know a connection to get just the gun and to ship it to North America?
  22. Probably just conflation of titles. IIRC the game was referred to as "Super Mario RPG2" for a long time in game mags and such, so I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think many people know that the game had that title in Japan, unless they spend a lot of time reading about Japanese releases.
  23. where's the "I see what you did there" reaction? Anyway, this game is too new for me to care about it, so it gets the Never Played Never Will score.
  24. Looks fun. I don't need any more mario, but if someone has it, then I'll play it.
