  1. If you want the best, both the PS2 and Wii have internal mods that can be installed that will give them native HDMI output. If you just want a converter box, you can't beat a retrotink. Both the Wii and PS2 can output component video.
  2. I was somehow lucky enough to catch blue scuti's stream and fractal161's stream when they beat it. I don't know how it happened. Both their lives just popped up in my youtube stream. They were both pretty epic. Congrats to both of them.
  3. George RR Martin's stories are depressing too, IMO. I do think FromSoftware's stories are designed to facilitate the experience they're trying to deliver with their games. It's just not really an experience I care to have.
  4. I bought Dark Souls II, and had to just make up my own story to tell myself. Their stories are just miserably depressing. I think it's the same reason I prefer Resident Evil games over Silent Hill.
  5. I don't know if this counts, but Mega Man X 5 (or maybe it was 6) was completely ruined by the constant dialogue popups during the game.
  6. I don't agree with this. Even if you ignore the plethora of early text based adventure games for 8bit computers, you still have choose your own adventure novels and tabletop gaming. This stuff has been around for almost fifty years. Granted those games may be a bit more primitive than modern games, but I don't think the modern stuff is all that impressive either. Games like TLOU are pretty linear. Take something like Hamlet, Shakespeare's masterpiece. I doubt it could ever be improved by making it interactive with player decisions that effect the outcome. In my opinion, the interactivity my heighten the experience in some ways, but will always be more limited in story telling compared to a novel or movie that are self contained. Also, I will admit a lot of modern games have better stories than movies, but I think that has more to do with the lack of creativity in the movie industry than anything else.
  7. I think the best video game stories are the ones that best facilitate the gaming experience. Castlevania SOTN is a good example. On it's own, it's subjectively crap, but when paired with the rest of the game, it becomes a great story for that game.
  8. My answers are all over the place, but I've always been more partial to FF over DQ.
  9. I thought Otocon's little sis was cute in her bike shorts. I even managed to save her. Sniped that douche vampire right off the pier. Then the game cheated me. I guess I'm partial to the weird and quirky storylines the most. Blaster Master's story always made perfect sense to me. I've always loved the earlier RE games especially.
  10. GODS for the Amiga/SNES/Genesis. Looks great and has some neat puzzles, but not that great to play. Another similar game IMO is Shadow of The Beast. It was one of the most amazing looking games when it came out, but the gameplay is terrible. It was more of an experience than anything you would want to play again and again. The Amiga had a lot of games like this.
  11. I gave it a 6/10, but don't take my score seriously. I got bored before I could get out of the first town. Learning the system was a chore. I loved the Dark Alliance games, though.
  12. In the 80's and 90's, reviewers would complain about games being too easy.
  13. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES. I know this is the low hanging fruit, but I honestly can't think of many NES games that have great graphics but terrible gameplay. Captain America and The Avengers for the arcade. I loved this game as a kid, and it still looks great on the arcade. It's a terrible beat em up though. Double Dragon III on the Sega Genesis. Astal for the Sega Saturn. Absolutely gorgeous game. It's playable, but if it looked like crap no one would ever touch it. Arc the Lad PS1. It's a strategy RPG that fails at being both.
  14. @T-Pac 2 fighters a red mage and a white mage make the best party. Fire2 will take care of most things until you get to the ice cave then you want ice2. Yes, monsters in ice cave are weak to ice2. Go watch a Gyre speedrun for some useful strategies if you're struggling.
  15. 9/10 The first time I played all the way through FF was on the PS1 with FF origins even though I've owned the NES game longer. I actually prefer the limited story in FF and Dragon Warrior over more story heavy games. That said, I thought FF had a really cool twist ending for such an old game. It genuinely surprised me and I loved it for that.
  16. Ironically I like her music less than I like Vectorman.

    Stupidman (NES)

Download link for the game 404'd on me.
  18. 5/10 Technically impressive, but conceptually boring.
  19. I think Smash TV can be played with single controllers if you don't have a four score. Not my video

    Stupidman (NES)

OK, I finished it. I think having only one big maze level was the right thing to do. Did you remove the first driving stage? I started in the museum this time.
  21. sweet, sweet chip tunes Chapter selection is in the videos description.

    Stupidman (NES)

I like the concept, but the overhead parts are Desert Bus painful. I think the supermarket is broken. I was getting glitches when moving down.
  23. I like all the Nintendo Mario games. I like the main franchise stuff, but I also love the weird one-offs like SMB2 and Super Mario Land for the Gameboy. I think intelligent systems made that one. I wish they had done more. They had their own unique style that was just as interesting as what Miyamoto and his crew were doing.
  24. I still haven't beaten Zelda BOTW2. I've done everything else, though.
