  1. I've been playing a lot of PS1 lately and thought it was time to organize all my memory card files. There were a few files I couldn't identify the icons for though. The first one says [VIEW] on it, so my best guess is maybe it's for Viewpoint? I don't have the game at the moment so I can't check. The other two don't have any text, so I can only go by the picture. They're animated, so I took pictures of a couple frames of the animation. Can anyone tell which games these go with?
  2. I was really into Splatoon for a while. I got up to the highest rank, S+. My points maxed out somewhere in the 90s (I think it was 97), but never got to the highest possible (S+99). I played Splatoon 2 quite a bit too, but I pretty much stopped playing right after reaching Rank X (the highest), so I didn't play much with other Rank X players.
  3. Pin Bot is easily my favorite. I like how it's more than just a recreation of the original table. They added levels to cycle through to give a goal other than just getting a high score. The sounds pretty good and the graphics aren't bad either. It plays well too. It feels like you can have better control over the ball than any of the other NES pinball games. I actually consider it one of my favorite pinball games for any system.
  4. Maybe Snake Rattle n Roll? It was a game that I played back in the day and could never get the hang of the controls. I bought it years later and made a serious attempt to beat it, but couldn't. It wasn't until another few years later I gave it another shot and finally beat it. I wound up beating it again a few months later just to prove to myself that the first time wasn't just a fluke. Maybe it's not the hardest game I've beaten, but the history I had with it made it feel like quite the accomplishment.
  5. I played through Rolan's Curse not too long ago. I had this one back in the day and wasn't too crazy about it. Still not. It's a Zelda clone, but very watered down. There's a lack of enemy variety, too easy bosses, and repeating areas. Just unremarkable in every way. I'd like try Rolan's Curse 2 someday though, as it looks a bit better.
  6. I played through Fantasy Zone. A pretty bad port. I'll add this to the list of NES games that I think the SMS version is better.
  7. I haven't been around here for a few months, but I have been playing games during that time, primarily PlayStation. I played through the following: Tai Fu Wrath of the Tiger - A platformer/beat-em-up hybrid. Doesn't do either very well. Bust A Groove - Assuming playing through as one character in the Japanese version is good enough for this thread, consider this one complete. Not as good as I remember, but still a decent rhythm game. Bust A Groove 2 - Like the first one, played though the Japanese version. Pocket Fighter - like the Bust A Grooves, only beaten with one character. Played the US version this time though! Digimon Rumble Arena - Again, only played as one character. I didn't like this one too much. Can't see myself ever playing again. Incredible Crisis - Story driven mini-game collection. Most of the games aren't too great, but the goofiness of the situations make it worth playing. Persona - I haven't played through this in a long time. Can't say I enjoyed it as much as I did back in the day, but it's still not bad. A lot of people complain about the localization, but I kinda like it. It gives it a more unique personality. Considering that the battles could drag on a bit long, I think the encounter rate reduction and experience earned increase was a good decision.
  8. If you're adding Japanese games for this year, it's already done! Didn't you keep track of Japanese games in the past? I remember posting Japanese completions in one of the previous Nintendo 64 threads.
  9. List updated again. Thanks for this post. If anyone else is interested, I am still open to selling, but I only take money orders as payment. Going back to? That's how I've always done things!
  10. The first time I saw the case art for this game, it was being used as an avatar (by NintendoTwizer, I think?) and I assumed it was a fake created to poke fun at all the shovelware on Wii. It was probably a few weeks until I found out it was a real game. It looks mildly amusing. I'm pretty sure I've been watching that listing for a few years now. I never actually bought it though. I always figured it would show up in a lot I buy some day.
  11. Civilization II is done. A bit tough going back to this one after playing 3 and 4 (still haven't played 5 or 6), but it was interesting to try it again. I recall it being better on PC though.
  12. List updated. Added a few more items.
  13. Today I finally accomplished what the previous owner of my cart could not, I cleared the final stage without the second chance rod. I wound up using the slower moving rod (second from the left) since it made it easier to navigate some of the tougher spots. After some practice, I was able to get through the earlier parts pretty quickly, so lack of time wasn't really an issue for me anymore, even with the slow rod. The Nintendo 64 and Virtual Boy contests certainly went better than the Sega Master System contest where there was only one participant several weeks, and never more than two! Yes, Goldeneye saved me from having to do any additional calculations! That's an interesting idea. Definitely something to consider. Maybe something like that would work better for a tournament for the top players? Not sure if there's enough participants in the contests I run for that though. Did you ever go back and try to beat your times? Or the later stages? Don't worry, I knew you were just joking around. I think this game was a perfect fit for this kind of contest. Not only is it designed to be played for best time, there's no random chance. It's all about how skillfully you can manipulate the analog stick.
  14. The PlayStation sequel (or maybe it would be considered an enhanced port?) was released in the US as Irritating Stick. It has more levels, a multiplayer mode, and mouse support. With a name like that, you'd think most parents would avoid buying it as a birthday or Christmas gift, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened. I gotta say, this game grew on me. I originally got it in a lot years ago. I played it once back then, didn't like it, and didn't touch it again until I was testing out games for this competition. I wound up playing though all the levels except for the last one, which I couldn't beat. I started playing again last week and replayed the levels I beat before to get my name on the scoreboards for all of them (during my first play through, I didn't beat the previous owners best times or I used the far left rod, which doesn't let you enter your name on the scoreboard). I still can't beat the last stage, but I'm getting closer!
  15. That's it for week 10! Congratulations to @Splain for taking first place. The leaderboard has been updated where @Splain took first place as well (like he did in the Virtual Boy contest last year). Hopefully those who joined in had a good time and maybe discovered a fun new game or two.
  16. If I recall correctly, you called me evil. Try using the rod on the far left. It gives you a second chance. I was originally going to ban it's use for this competition, but after what happened on GoldenEye 007 week, I didn't want to make participation too difficult for the remaining games.
  17. It's from a show called Challengers on Fire (that seems to be the official English translation). The stage designs in the game are based on the actual challenges from the show. A bit more information on the show: https://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/ips/contents/Formats/0053/data/ChallengersOnFire.pdf And a video from the segment the game is based on:

  22. I'm not crazy about redoing this week. I made a set of rules and set a time limit. If no one was able to meet the minimum requirement within that time limit, then that's the way it's going to be. However, if there is a tie for first on the leaderboard after week 10, I've been thinking about making a final tie breaker week in which a game or games from previous weeks would be played with a new set of rules. Goldeneye wasn't going to be one of the games, but I'll consider it now. If there isn't a tie, but enough interest in a final week in this format from the highest scoring participants, I'd be open to running it anyway. It could be separate from the leaderboard points like the end of season NES tournament, or there could be points added on (maybe with a bigger difference in points rewarded between different places to make it more exciting?).
  23. ...yikes. The minimum requirement to post a score was to finish Part 1 of Stage 1, which nobody did, so I can't reward any points this week. Congratulations to @Alec_Trevelyan for his victory. The week 8 thread can be found here:
