  1. While I like the idea of challenge runs, it seems a bit far off from what this thread is about. Maybe it would work better as a separate event? I think including imports works best for the bonus games. A specific list of games isn't necessary, just track them as they are completed like in the Game Boy and Nintendo 64 threads. I got this game back in the day and still can't consistently complete the river jump. You have to be incredibly precise.

  4. Hello and welcome to the fifth round of the Multiplatform Weekly Contest! It's time for something different for a weekly contest, a strategy game! This week's game will be Military Madness for TurboGrafx-16. Rules: - Start a new game and play the first 3 maps, REVOLT, ICARUS, and CYRANO. If you complete all three, use the 1P CONTINUE option to skip to the map LIPTUS - Take a picture of the Combat Result Graph at the end of each map - You must play the maps in order, but you may go back to previously completed maps to try for better results - Most completed maps wins - If more than one player completes the same number of maps, the least total number of turns wins - If more than one player completes the same number of maps in the same number of turns, least number of AX KILLS wins - You have until 11:00 PM EST on Sunday, January 8, 2023 to submit your score. For general contest rules, click here: SCOREBOARD: 1. 2 maps, 14 turns, 51 AX kills (Splain)
  5. I made an attempt at this one earlier in the year. It seemed interesting enough, but it was so slowed-paced I couldn't get into it. I stopped playing a few hours in. It's the kind of game I'd like to see remade. It has some significant flaws, but with a few tweaks, I think I could have fun with it. If the walking speed was a bit faster and the combat wasn't such a slog, I would likely have kept playing.
  6. That's it for week 3. Congratulations to @BlackVega for taking the top spot. The thread for week 4, Snowboard Kids (Nintendo 64) can be found here:
  7. A game called Little Big Adventure already existed when that came out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Big_Adventure

  10. Did you keep playing after losing your first life? You're supposed to immediately pause the game after losing your first life for the picture.

  12. There are plenty of Japanese games that have English titles that don't sound quite right, but Out Live - Be Eliminate Yesterday is one of my favorites.
  13. This paragraph is a bit confusing. It looks like forgot to mention that the original Saiyūki World for Famicom was a reskin/modified port of Wonder Boy in Monster Land. I reads like you're saying that Saiyūki World 2 on Famicom is the sequel to Bikkuriman World for PC engine.
  14. That's it for week 1. Congratulations to @Dr. Morbis for taking the top spot. The thread for week 2, Double Dragon (SMS) can be found here:
  15. Hello and welcome to the second round of the Multiplatform Weekly Contest! This week's game will be Double Dragon, but not the NES one you're so used to playing. Test your beat 'em up skills with the Sega Master System version! Rules: - Start a single player game - Play until you lose one life or you beat the game - If you lose a life, immediately pause the game and take your picture - If you beat the game, take your picture after beating the final boss - Furthest distance wins. Distance is determined by which section of the stage you lost at - For participants who reached the same distance, the tie-breaker will be highest score - You have until 11:00 PM EST on Sunday, December 18, 2022 to submit your score. For general contest rules, click here: Good luck and have fun! SCOREBOARD: 1. Splain (Stage 3 - 31,780) 2. BlackVega (Stage 2 - 25,040) 3. Dr. Morbis (Stage 1 - 2,450)
  16. I don't know anything about FPGA, but after doing a quick search on the topic, I don't see any issues with it. As long as it's not giving any advantage over playing by other means, I'll allow it. Ideally, I'd like everyone to play on original hardware with an original cartridge and a standard controller, but I realize that might not be possible for a lot of people and would limit who can participate.
  17. I'm not a staff member here and this isn't an official VGS event, so I didn't send any sort of notifications out. I'm just running these on my own for fun. I see you were notified for the VGS Thanksgiving Contest, so I would assume you're still on the list, but I would suggest you ask a staff member (maybe @ZeldaFreak) if you want to be sure. With the Analog Pocket, that would just be playing a ROM on an emulator, right? That would be okay for this competition.
  18. Hello and welcome to the first round of the Multiplatform Weekly Contest! Let's play some Pilotwings (SNES) to start things off! Rules: - Choose Continue on the title screen and enter the password 520771 - Play through all 4 events and take a picture of your total score - If you earn enough points for certification, continue on to the helicopter mission - If you complete the helicopter mission, take another picture when the screen says "RESCUE SUCCESSFUL" and the helicopter takes off. Be quick! This will only last a few seconds - Your final score will be your total score from the 4 events, minus 1 point for every second you took to complete the helicopter mission - If you did not complete the helicopter mission, subtract 600 points from your score - A negative score is okay - Highest score wins - You have until 11:00 PM EST on Sunday, December 11, 2022 to submit your score. For general contest rules, click here: Good luck and have fun! SCOREBOARD: 1. Dr. Morbis (109 points) 2. Splain (-278) 3. Krunch (-404) 4.

  20. Maybe you saw the thread I started? I'm running another off-season contest this year starting next weekend. In the past, they focused on one console (Sega Master System, Game Boy, Virtual Boy, Nintendo 64), but this year every game will be on a different system. It will follow the same format as my previous ones. Here's a link to the Game Boy one from a few years ago.
  21. I don't think having the Game Boy consoles will lower participation. When I ran the Game Boy contest a few years back, it got better participation than any of the others I ran. I'm aiming to start this next Sunday and will announce the first game a few days ahead of time.
