  1. Gave it a 7 (though, probably would be a 7.5 for me). My first console! Well, technically, we had the knock-off Coleco Gemini (a curiosity in itself), but we just called it a "Coleco Atari." It will always be a special console due to it being the first I ever had as a kid in the mid-80s. Many games are still pretty fun, especially the Activision games that @Bearcat-Dougmentioned. My preferred way of playing Space Invaders is still on a 2600...even over the arcade experience(though the silvered mirror in the cabinet is pretty badass). Warlords and Combat are still really fun to this day as well. Of course, though it was fun at the time because I didn't know any better (besides the babysitter having an actual Colecovision), when the NES came out, that was it! My mom sold the Gemini for a pittance at a garage sale ($10 with all hook-ups?). I have an original, Sunnyvale Heavy Sixer now, as well as a four switch and Jr. My kids actually quite like the 2600 because of the simplicity of the games. My oldest loves Fishing Derby, so the old warhorse still has some sway to this day.
  2. Thanks for the comments regarding the N'Sane Trilogy. I think I WILL avoid buying it and just try the originals on my little PSOne.
  3. Ok? Did they change quite a bit besides the obvious graphical update? You make it sound like they added or subtracted something that detracts from what the originals offered. Let me know...as if it is a big addition/subtraction that ruins the perception of the franchise, I can just buy them for the PS1 someday! Thanks for the heads up!
  4. Never played any of them, except an "excerpt" in Uncharted 4 (which was cool they did that, by the way). As @Webhead123said, I also usually get Sony consoles when they are past their prime (and I always get the slim versions) that I never played the Crash games on the original PS1 at the time. I do have the N'Sane Trilogy on my radar, however. Any differences in that compilation between the platforms (I have a Switch, XBox One, and a SLIM PS4)?
  5. Wait...you worked at Midway!?!?! That is awesome! Still learning all of the personalities here since I was mostly a lurker at NA.
  6. Glad I could generate so much discussion on the original FF1 rom. Anyway, I will shoot for level 25 or so and report back...probably months later from now!
  7. Gotcha! I may have to dedicate a few hours when the wife and kids don't need me (late at night when everyone is asleep?) just to grind a bit. Any suggestion for what level my characters should be at for the final dungeon/boss?
  8. Started playing FF1 on the NES Classic. I have beaten FF1 only ever on the PS1 Origins remake. I want to beat the original ROM, though. I had this game for the NES as a kid, but always hated that my heroes would never target a new enemy after their assigned enemy was vanquished by someone else! I am glad FFII (IV) fixed that on the SNES. Anyway, I am over that problem now and have more patience (I think!). But, I went with what I guess is considered easy mode? 3 Figthers and 1 Red Mage. It also helps that the Classic lets you save anywhere during the game. Being in my 40s with four active kids, I need all the help I can get to beat the original ROM as quickly as possible.
  9. When I do play puzzle games (which is not that often), I prefer a controller/handheld that grips well in my hand. I have messed up Tetris many times because of my hands and fingers just not working well with a controller. So, it would have to be the NES (controller is a perfect fit for me, and, of course, the most time I have spent with a controller) or the original GameBoy. For me, the DS and 3DS are just too...floppy?...for me.
  10. You guys will enjoy it...it is quite fun! I am glad another batch is getting made for those who missed the initial post! Here's hoping VGS does more homebrew releases like this. Thanks to @neodolphinofor putting this together.!
  11. 7. I enjoyed it more than the PS2, as it finally brought me out of the PC to play a FPS (Halo) I enjoyed. I played a lot of GoldenEye on the N64 with friends, but always thought it was inferior to what I was playing on the PC (Doom and Quake...Soldier of Fortune!). Halo finally got the console FPS right for me. Throw in a Western RPG series in KoTOR and that was almost my console of choice that generation, but I had just a tiny bit more fun with the GameCube (the console that brought me back from the PC world at the time).
  12. I gave it a 6. I still greatly prefer the 8-bit iterations and the mainline series to it. It is pretty good...but my only experience with it is on the SNES Classic. I think, at the time, I was mad that it was a whole new Mega Man and not the one I devoted hours to in 1, 2, and 3. I only recently played it when the SNES Classic came out, and even then, for the first year or so having the Classic unit, I avoided playing the game. I finally started playing it last year during COVID and found it to be pretty good, but had me longing for Mega Man 2 and 3, for some reason! Nostalgia probably talking.
  13. No clue! Never played a Pokemon...I think I was past the demographic Nintendo was going for when it came out in the US. 1998 for the first US release? Yeah, I was in college by that point and I think the perception was that the series, when it first started out, was for 8-12 year olds? My little cousin, who was pretty into it at the time, was probably 11 when he showed everyone what a "Squirtle" was that Xmas. I have kids now who are into Pokemon, but haven't really played the games and just like watching the shows and playing the card game. I am sure I will be pulled along to play it on our 2DSes and Switch "soon," however.
  14. My Pin Set #2 came in the mail today! The box is much bigger than the first, but then they also have one more, rather large pin (The Super Mario 35th Pin) to accommodate, I suppose. Hope you all get your's soon!
  15. I can confirm that it is with physical games. Just tried claiming some gold points on a physical copy of Luigi's Mansion 3, which i just got in the last month or so. When I go to claim the points on the Switch (as pointed out by @Deadeye), it says that "gold coins/points redemption has expired/no longer available," or something to that effect. Got the clarification from Nintendo's website that physical copies of the game need their gold points to be redeemed within one year of its physical release. I just also got Clubhouse Games 51 and, luckily, was still within the time period to get its gold points for the physical version.
  16. I have yet to participate...mostly due to family obligations, but also just waiting for a game I own before I participate! (And, of course, if the night works for me) I am sure one of these days we will do Tetris 99 or Killer Queen Black!
  17. I think you and I are on the same page here. While the double jump in Super is fun once you get the hang of it (as an aside, I still screw up the double jump height/length and where you are going to land to this day... about a quarter of the time), it was a bit jarring to me after popping so many quarters into Ghouls Arcade. I also find the arcade version of Ghouls n' Ghosts to be the best of the series from what I have played (have not played the new one or the one that came out on the PSP). I am going to have to pick up a copy of the Genesis version, as that one seems to be the one that is right up my alley.
  18. 9, with only Doom being the 10. Played Wolfenstein 3D right before Doom hit and was enthralled by it. This was at a time that I was mostly a console gamer, but had a 386 SX(yep, the crappy 386) for school work as I was in junior high at the time. Seeing Wolfenstein play on the 386 was my first "glimpse" of the so-called "PC Master Race." I know Wolf3D came out for consoles later, but by that time, as you all know, Doom had taken us by storm followed by Doom 2 and Quake. Doom took it to another level and just blew me away. Quake may be a 9.5.
  19. In my reply above, the only reason I put it as my least favorite was genuinely motion sickness/eye strain from the spinning of the planets. Lame, I know...but the few times I tried playing it...I couldn't! I will try to give it another try down the line and see if those very few times were aberrations...but now I know I am getting old!
  20. Odyssey is 1 for me 3D World for #2, as I had some fun times with my wife with it on the Wii U. Least Favorite: Galaxy. I tried playing this a few times, and it actually made me motion sick! Has to be the rotating of the planets/balls!
  21. ^Love your username, Luther! Speaking of Atari (and more than likely my first game)...
  22. Exactly! Super Mario Bros 35th anny was odd to celebrate. I seriously think Nintendo came up with a Super Mario "Tetris 99-like game" and wanted a reason to release it. "HEY, its the Super Mario franchise's 35th this year...lets make it 35 players instead of trying to get 99 players on there. Yep, sounds good to me." And then that led to all this other stuff that they have been doing with the release of 3D All-Stars and the pin giveaways. "Oh hey, besides being Super Mario's 35th, it is also Game & Watch's 40th! NES Super Mario Bros. on a G&W for the holiday season? Do it up!' Lastly, it is funny to read news articles about "Mario turning 35." Not quite...Super Mario turned 35...Mario the character was 35 back in 2016 if we go by Donkey Kong's arcade release. EDIT: Speaking of which, this year is Mario's 40th anniversary as an actual creation/character!
