  1. By chance I happen to go out to dinner with some family last night in the same plaza way out by the BN. So I stopped in to see if I could grab an issue and I dont know if it’s just a special end of the year issue, or if things have really gotten that bad with prices, but it’s worse than what @CodysGameRoomsaid it was $30 for the issue. My memory seems to tell me I remember seeing them for like $12-15 years ago, which was still buts but I could swallow it. But $30? No freaking way. That puts the nail in the coffin for my interest in a subscription
  2. I’m not going to try and pretend I know what your going through or what it feels like. But what you described sounds more like the symptoms of straight depression rather than something that’s particular to this time of year. Hope you get through it man, Ive seen a few friends spiral pretty bad and it always seemed to start with hating fairly innocuous things like that. You may want to try and find someone to talk to. Seriously, take care of yourself man. No one can make it happen but you.
  3. Unfortunately the closest BN to me is about an hour away. Otherwise I would just pick them up there. But thanks for looking out!
  4. Annnnd Square opened preorders again without notice about 30mins ago and they were gone in minutes again. This is getting ridiculous/interesting
  5. Square has put out a message regarding the Final Fantasy collection, saying there will be another opportunity in the spring but again supplies will be “extremely limited” Edit: Also looks like VGP canada is looking into getting a run printed for their store
  6. Square dropped a Final Fantasy I-VI collection in the middle of the night last night, as a web store exclusive “limited” release. Standard Switch version already sold out over night. Maybe they’ll produce more eventually. Something to keep an eye on for Final Fantasy fans https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/product/810908/final-fantasy-i-vi-collection
  7. How about disc games and whether or not they work, if you collect disc based stuff? Personally I don’t for the very reason they may not work
  8. Personally I am very picky with youtube channels I watch. If I get even a whiff of something I don’t like, bad audio, distracting mannerism, other stupid little shit, I just don’t look at any more of their videos. As a consequence I have a very small contingent of things I watch on there. So just having info on youtube is kinda meaningless to me. Similarly if Im going to read something, I want something in my hands. I can’t stand long form reading on a screen. It cost me a lot more money in college because I bought all the books physically when most others had the bootleg pdfs of the books. So this is why Ive been debating getting the magazine, also since I haven’t had a magazine subscription in years and it would be nice to have something small to look forward to once a month. My main concern was the delivery issue from years back
  9. How do/would you handle a situation where you found out it wasn’t working or was a fake game? Seems like you would be out of some money with that method
  10. What’s everyones opinions on Retro Gamer Magazine? It’s been around for quite a while and I contemplated getting a subscription years ago but I think at the time I saw some reports of people bot getting every issue delivered and problems getting that rectified. Are there still problems like that? Is it worth the price?
  11. Ive pointed this out in threads on NA and reddit before, more specifically an insurance company would probably say well its a game, the average game costs $2.00, maybe you might get lucky and they say “oh it’s a NES game, the cost of an average NES game is $30, heres tour check.” Then people would argue that no “their agent” or whatever said it’s covered, but these people could never provide any wording or evidence that explicitly states, “If I lose X game, I WILL receive X value from a claim.” Its always some vague “personal property” value or something. All that sounds like to me is a good way for a company to not dish the money out with clever wording. Remember they’re in the business of making money they don’t care that your Stadium Events melted. Your absolute best bet @goldenpp72is to find an agent and explicitly lay out what you want. For example “I want the specific value of the lost property in the case of fire, flood, tornado, natural or manmade” etc “ what can you do for me.” and see if they can come up with something for you and read it carefully possibly with attorney proof read as well before signing, if the agent can even put something forward
  12. Saying the pins scrape is misleading. It’s not like razor blades digging into the contacts. It’s a rounded edge making contact with some spring loaded force. The additives are so thin/minimal you would have to coat the thing daily and put effort in to trying to clump it up to cause issue like you want to imagine it would. It’s like asking how much money did I get for the gold I recovered from a scrap pcb. Basically nothing, the coating is so thin, it would take ungodly amounts of time/effort to accumulate enough to make a difference. Regardless, you should be cleaning the cart connector in the console occasionally too, you could use alcohol first to remove any additives leftover from the carts if you were paranoid enough to be worried about it. I have not personally done insertion tests. That’s not done by the designers personally. Though, what I do have is test equipment that has been used for many years, which does consist of a pcb board that is inserted into units for diagnostics. That board has probably been inserted 1000’s of times. When it acts up we use the cleaner on it. Deoxit D5 specifically, we also use the F5 for potentiometers if/when they ever start to get “crackly” (think of a guitar amp volume knob getting that crackle sound, if your familiar with that) in the test equipment.
  13. It doesn’t. There is a reason I advocate for actual contact cleaner, I design PCBs for a living. I deal with this stuff daily.
  14. The contact cleaner I use isn’t alcohol, it’s essentially lighter fluid chemically, with added lubricants and anti-corrosives to protect the contacts Edit qnd a quick skim of that article didn’t seem to talk about contact cleaner it seemingly ONLY talks about alcohols. Again was just a quick skim
  15. The next level of cleaning after alcohol should be contact cleaner, that was my point.
  16. For everyone saying they use brasso or other abrasive polishes on their games, don’t do that. It’s not necessary and not good for the contacts. They make contact cleaner specifically for this kind of thing
  17. Clean every game I get as I get it and test it immediately after. Don’t understand waiting. What happens if you wait to only find out you have a fake game or it doesn’t work? You may screw yourselves out of a return window doing that.
  18. I quit their pro membership when they got rid of the preowned discount. I think Ive made a handful of purchases since then. And that was only when they did B2GO on Switch games, which they conveniently left out of the deal this year. Sometimes Im surprised they still exist
  19. Or just do what every other retailer started doing years ago and just put those plastic anti theft boxes on the games. Seems like such simple solutions but obviously it doesn’t affect their bottom line to hear these complaints, so they don’t care
  20. Not that I don’t sympathize, but this is a widely known thing. They sell the display copies as “new”
  21. Well that's kind of my point in that I always saw it as Cart, INSTRUCTIONS, Box, not Inserts, which would exclude all but the manual Edit: and double checking their glossary they state CIB = Complete In Box but provide the definition: "A game state that includes the original box/case, cartridge/disc, and Manual" Which already contradicts the definition of "Complete" I honestly don't care what/how they define it. I just find it interesting
  22. With all the Repro talk Im surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention the CIB definition. The call it Complete In Box while basically using the Cart Instructions Box version of the definition. I’ve always considered it Cart, Ins, Box myself, but if your one to go with Complete In Box then there definition is flawed as it doesn’t include the inserts and other stuff
  23. Magus hasn’t logged on over a year, I would imagine he is not connected to it anymore. Or he got really tired of people giving him shit because of the company he worked for
  24. I see why I never saw them, I generally don’t look in the homebrew section so never came across them
  25. Only ones Ive ever seen are in the first group. Sooo I picked A Bugs Life
