I figure a follow up is needed at least for me since I don't post finds here anymore.

A few weeks ago (nearly a month initially) a local second hand shop here got 2 (but kept one for an employee in the rear) limited edition colored (they kept green) pockets and a yellow hit the floor at $250.  I asked quite a bit, gave it a solid look over, but only dug as much to make sure it worked but just couldn't stomach it even after talking to the gaming manager of the stuff.  I was back about 10 days later, shockingly, it was there still and the guy straight up asked if I still cared and wanted it if he took $50 off.  Then it dawned on me I had a loyalty card worth 25% off, and with that despite me shitting on analogue for the dock lies bought it for $150.  I get the thing home, really dig into it, and discovered it was never once powered up for use, still on the original firmware, had the original charge, it just wasn't enjoyed, so the old owner being a collector who turns over stuff(they said) the fool unwrapped and displayed it in the box, that's it.

After that I decided to ask here, elsewhere, finally I got someone who didn't downvote asking if the dock worked right on reddit(some people just suck on there) who let me know the last firmware update did a lot of dock corrections.  I went digging online, and luck struck twice, found another open box unit, the guy bought the dock but only used the handheld and just posted it to sell it with the top off.  I figured it was stories, but I negotiated and got that for $110 shipped, not the usual grift on ebay.  It wasn't a story, stock launch firmware, not a fingerprint, and the cables unremoved ever.  So I flashed the thing and boom, stories were right.

WHen I got the pocket they had that 8bitdo switch pro style controller the ultimate bluetooth C thing for $15 so I grabbed it to use.  I decided to see if I could get it to pair up, it did, and it did correctly, and other controllers that past failed did as well.  From there got into the menu, set up the failed to remember menu settings for displaying stuff, and it remembered them on sleep and power off entirely on/off dock all that 100% too.  I'm now very belated satisfied, also found that 8bitdo pad if you hit the power up button in the center of it, it turns on the pocket in dock too!  That's a nice bonus. Over the last few days put a few hours into FF6 Advance cart on it I recently acquired too, got as far as Sabin and Shadow meeting so far.

The one thing I did see, manually changing button mapping is still broken/gray/off still which is sad, but at least it seems to align stuff by default right at least so that's good enough.  Not sure I'll fiddle with cores, not much time for what I have without going to roms.

Any clue if I can use to Dock with a DAC yet? T_T

You were suppose to cook it for the whole block as a house party thing.  Best use that chili on more than spaghetti.  Get out the bake potato... BAM!  Chili potato.  Flour tortilla....  BAM!  Chili chilito.  Hot dog..... BAM!  Chili coney.  Fries..... BAM!  Chili cheese fries.  Cream cheese.... BAM!  Chili dip.  You need like 10lb block of mild cheader cheese to shred with the smallest size on a box grader to pair with 5lbs of Cincinnati chili. Gotta make it super fluffly cheese and you are doing it right.

    So many solutions!

I hope you aren't talking about the 5lb can of chili I sent you.  But the chili season packet.  Remember, chili can be frozen and taste good when reheated months later.

Bro the fuck am I supposed to do with a 5lb can of chili if not use it for chili month?

He's like Anakin Solo from Legends.  As the current skilled labor, Boomer labor market is coming to an end, I think he'll be at a good place to get a well paying job as some form of mechanic or repair man and, probably, will start his own business.  For him, I think the future looks very bright.

I'm super happy to hear this for your kid.

  5. We've come full circle I think - I was told "get into tech, it'll be great for a future career", and I did that. It worked out for me but the field now has to contend with "Use AI or get left behind", and we're heavily oversaturated in juniors wanting to jump to senior level with a single year under their belts.

Right now I think I'd honestly say "Get into skilled labour". Human craftsmanship is going to, IMO, carry a higher and higher price. The way corporations work with engineering is to find a new (hopefully better) way to do a thing, and then to grind it down to the lowest cost possible (read: factories in China) and sell it as "quality". The guys that came to my house to check the issues with my heater and fix a clog in a pipe charged $500 for less than an hour of work. Now granted, it was 2 guys, and they had tools and expertise, and they have a year guarantee on their work; this isn't some kids who decided to unclog toilets for a living cuz it's easy. They were good.

But yeah. Stuff will always need built and fixed, and "artisan" will always come with a high price, even higher I think in future where "human built" may well be a slogan we see companies being proud to tout.

  6. The irony of a guy making a video titled "SHE SOLD THESE WAY TOO CHEAP!!" (cuz she didn't know what she had) then selling the game for way too cheap cuz he didn't know what he had is palpable.

  7. @Seth to be clear, I'm entirely being sarcastic with my statements about this is a hack that's a whatever this or that. I find the gatekeeping funny so I jokingly split hairs on these things. If you have a criteria which you believe works then power to you. I'd never, for instance, say that Enderal (the Skyrim mod) isn't deserving of massive praise and being basically considered a whole new game.

I'm still kinda sad though that you continue to ignore Shmupspeed's existence.

It's coming. I'll be jobless come August, should have a lot of free time on my hands and no money, which I guess is the perfect combination for staying at home and getting projects finished.

You're making him wait until August!? 🤣

Didn't he order it in September 2022?

You define "soonish" in November 2022, two months after he ordered it, as this August!?

    Dark Forces

It was fine.  Kinda frustrating, janky, and repetitive.  But I don't know what I was expecting considering it barely came out after Doom.  It certainly looks and plays like an FPS from 1995.

I was pretty obsessed with it as a kid.  So much so that I coveted the PC version hard, and even read the entire strategy guide at the store at one point.  Glad I finally got around to it, but it ain't gonna challenge Doom on my best ever lists.  And you can see why you went in the direction they did with Jedi Knight.  Something to set it apart.

STAR WARS™: Dark Forces Remaster on Steam

    1. Bloodborne (9.5/10)
    2. The Witness (9/10)
    3. Tunic (9/10)
    4. Yakuza 2 Kiwami (8.5/10)
    5. Firewatch (8.5/10)
    6. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag (8/10)
    7. Bayonetta 3 (8/10)
    8. Rise of the Tomb Raider (8/10)
    9. The Stanley Parable (7.5/10)
    10. Resident Evil 3 (7.5/10)
    11. The Talos Principle (7.5/10)
    12. The Quarry (7/10)
    13. A Plague Tale: Innocence (7/10)
    14. Bravely Default (6.5/10)
    15. Pikmin 1 (6.5/10)
    16. Dark Forces (5.5/10)
    17. Beyond Oasis (5/10)

It pleases me every time you post these cuz Bloodborne is right where it belongs.
