Video Game Stolen IP in Casual Situations

A few days ago I received a message from the local department branch of the second largest city in Taiwan. It was about the garbage pickup schedule over the holiday weekend. Hmm, is that the bubble bobble dude in the corner?

Then there's the ATMs from a local bank. Hmm that looks familiar..

They are protective but if the government that they have to work with in order to crack down on offenders doesn’t process IP infringement cases efficiently well then its a lost cause.

Ive seen some stuff like this in the Philippines. I bet it happens a ton in Asian countries

I have a buddy who just started a food truck and he decided to go all in with the Nintendo IP which will almost certainly end poorly for him if he becomes successful. Oof. That being said, the Sandos are delicious.

I'm guessing that he has a "lawyer" friend who watched an episode of Matlock at a bar (the sound wasn't on, but he got the gist of it) and told him, as long as his birth name is actually Mario, he should legally be fine.

This topic did help me remember a "borrowed" IP from my teenage years.

There was a pizza place in town with the totally unique name of "Pizza King".

Imagine a more basic version of this:

Holding a pizza up with his left hand, nothing in his right, a crown on his head, and his mouth closed.

The first time I saw the sign I'm like "That's Mario."

"Mario's Coin Laundry" honestly sounds like a real Nintendo game from somewhere in the 80s. Hell, if Mario can have a Cement Factory, then why not a laundromat?

Though also, we have to ask some serious questions about why someone would create a shop like this whose name is almost a literal synonym for money laundering...

Those coins scattered across the Mushroom Kingdom have been out in the elements, probably even hit with paratroopa/flying goomba droppings.

Mario has to take them *SOMEWHERE* to rinse them off.
