  1. Unpopular video game opinion? The 1990's was a terrible decade for Nintendo. They entered 1990 being #1 in the market, and by the end they were getting their asses handed to them by inferior hardware. It isn't that Nintendo put out terrible games, they just made really terrible decisions that cost them their status as leaders.
  2. I had to vote for the original SML because, while a very short and easy game, it gave us what is basically an alternative universe SMB game. Exploding turtles? Hearts instead of 1-UP mushrooms? The Powerball? Shooter levels? It's fascinating to consider where things could have gone with the series had they not stopped at 2 games. Oh yeah, Wario Land isn't a Mario game. It does contain elements/concepts *from* SML2, but it's a Wario game.
  3. How the hell does a game like "Cheetahmen" get such a fantastic theme?
  4. I think SP are underrated now, vs in the 90's. Billy was talking about his band vs. Foo Fighters, and wondering how come The Foo's are rock legends (which they should be) but SP aren't even despite he/they had two of the best selling albums of the entire decade. And you aren't crazy about your issue with the newer songs. The classic stuff (to me) had Billy's vocals mixed more organically with the music, whereas today it seems his vocals are mixed to be in front of the music. I really like the guitar heaviness of Zeitgeist, but the front and center vocal mixing really, really brings the album down.
  5. I'd say any pretty much all the bosses in any given "Streets of Rage" game. It's the fight anticipation along with the music. Except maybe Yamato and the final Boss in SOR3, those guys are a breeze. Burnout 3, Road Rage event. I was totally in the zone one night, and happy I managed to finally break 100 takedowns in a single race, but kept going. As the number climbed closer and closer to 200, I was getting anxious and pumped to see where I was going to end up. Slamming cars, dodging traffic, all while running in a car that hit "Damage Critical" at like 110. Somehow, some mix of skill and luck got me to 235 Takedowns. Knowing that one-hit death at 200mph was coming was intense.
  6. And here I thought she existed as a way to appeal to and sell Smurfs to little girls. I can't think of "The Smurfs" without thinking of Family Guy Live In Vegas "All Cartoons are Fucking Dicks", and how Papa Smurf is actually a raging racist and homophobe.
  7. I've gone decades looking down on this game, oblivious to the fact that it's dumber than I thought.. Probably along the lines with "wall meat" from Castlevania, what about trash chicken from Final Fight/Streets of Rage? My health is low from being beat up by Donovan and Galsia. I'll eat this fully cooked chicken I found in the trash in a very sketchy part of the city. Everything will be fine!
  8. I call Eric Roberts the "Second* hardest working man in the business", because he shows up all over the place. My guess is that Mr. Roberts is someone who just likes acting, which is why he says yes to crap like "It's a Talking Cat" *Who is the hardest working man in the business? James Hong. Seriously, that guy shows up *EVERYWHERE*. Most will know him as Lo Pan in "Big Trouble in Little China", but he's been out there doing character work since the mid 50's.
  9. Well, I've probably played both games about 15-20 min each. I'm going to say Super, because its like the original/2. And because the PC gamer in me doesn't play FPS games with a game pad.
  10. Macy's *AND* Nordstrom in your mall? I was actually thinking maybe Macy's would carry something pricey like the Neo Geo, but I didn't have one near me until 2003.
  11. Those coins scattered across the Mushroom Kingdom have been out in the elements, probably even hit with paratroopa/flying goomba droppings. Mario has to take them *SOMEWHERE* to rinse them off.
  12. I only have two issues of GamePro. The Premiere Issue, and August 1991. PM if interested.
  13. I'm rather curious about that myself. I've only physically seen one Neo Geo in my life, and it happened to be at at the game store I worked at in my 20's.
  14. This topic did help me remember a "borrowed" IP from my teenage years. There was a pizza place in town with the totally unique name of "Pizza King". Imagine a more basic version of this: Holding a pizza up with his left hand, nothing in his right, a crown on his head, and his mouth closed. The first time I saw the sign I'm like "That's Mario."
  15. The CD-i is not a contender because it didn't have the games. I'm trying hard to imagine the sea of kids descending up stores, demanding copies of "Hotel Mario" and "Link: The Faces of Evil".
