Shoot - I looped Mappy Land today, but I shut the game off before realizing that I didn't pass the default hi-score (I was abusing continues, which must have reset my score each time I got a Game Over). I'll see if I can try again tomorrow, since I should be able to rack-up points once the easy stages repeat...

@scaryice - Is that a legit way to clear a looping/hi-score game? Bulldozing through the first round using continues and then going for the high-score on the second loop when the difficulty tones down?

I'll start 2021 off with some KOEI games. Finished Nobunaga's Ambition just today. Going to start on the 2nd one tonight or tomorrow.

Sweet, those are better than Romance of the 3 Kingdoms that I've been too busy to finish so far. Have you ever played/beaten L'Empereur? It's a pretty good game, hard though.

Star Wars is done too. Blew up the death star, but it only showed 90% complete at the end because I killed off Leia in the last walking level. Ill play through it again and get a 100% complete with photo later tonight, but posting now in case @nerdynebraskanis about to dust off his star wars cart

Edit: 1 cc this time, just missed 1 life complete with a dumb mistake on the monster in the trash pit. When I killed off Leia in the run before, the second screen pictured only had luke and han standing there. Never seen that before.

I think topping the high score as part of claiming a repeating arcade game is most applicable to a short game like Donkey Kong that may only have five or fewer distinct levels to loop. A longer game like Mappyland is to me more like playing Super Mario Bros or Contra. Sure, the game keeps score, but you're more chasing after the final screen than racking points. Besides, I'm sure you broke the default high score at some point knocking off the lower levels.

Mighty Bomb Jack is done.  I've blathered on about this one at least once before.  Great Game!  Vast room for exploration / Tons of Secrets / Multiple Routes / Complex Structure masked in relatively simple game play and remarkably unforgiving of error.

As nerdy said, that's mainly there for arcade-style games where there isn't an obvious loop point. I don't think it really applies to games where you can continue infinitely. So I'd consider it beaten already.

40% of the library done in a week?

Is that normal for this thread?

I love that all this data is available, thanks for storing and providing it. Beautiful.

As a more sad aside...I was working on DW3 using a 3 merchant party (which is brutally difficult) and my save file just got corrupted at the grind before Baramos. Maybe this is a good time to re-consider that strategy, since Merchants are terrible. Might go back with a more traditional party and try again.

I beat L'Empereur in 2018. It was so far the hardest KOEI game for me, but also one of the best ones.

The first Nobunaga's Ambition was one of my least favorite. Would definitely rather play RotTK again over it. I'm starting Nobunaga 2 right now. Probably Bandit Kings of Ancient China after that. I think the only other KOEI game I still need to beat after that is Uncharted Waters which I'll get to at some point this year.

I probably just remember Nobunaga being better because I beat it the same time I beat Shingen the Ruler (which isn't a Koei game), and Shingen required a lot of grinding, but Nobunaga was a lot easier. After awhile all these games blend together. Uncharted Waters is much better than those, though. UW2:NH is one of my favorite games on the SNES.
