Released in time for the holidays of yesteryear, RetroUSB’s 2018 entry of his beloved 8-Bit Xmas series features an isometric skiing/snowboarding arcade challenge. There are many mountain trails to the coveted high score, whether that’s a slow & steady trek through the gates or a black diamond rush off the ramps with some inventive tricks. Just don’t topple over or your score will reset. At least it’s not SkiFree with an Abominable Snow Monster waiting to devour you, right??? Like its brethren in the series, 8-Bit Xmas 2018 was available in a clear cartridge, complete with festive blinking lights and the usual Christmas pinup card. This game comes to you from a veritable homebrew dreamteam: in addition to Brian (RetroUSB's) overall work, Zi (Bleep Bop Records) composed the music, and Zach (Retrotainment) and Kevin (KHan) provided skier and snowboarder graphics. This round will begin January 3, no score posted before then will be accepted. Please limit your posts to including your scores so as not to clutter the thread. How to submit your score: 1. Scores shall be submitted by posting a picture to that month’s game thread. Screenshots of a computer screen (print screen) are not acceptable. 2. The picture must include the entire screen and have your VGS user name within the picture on a piece of paper. Username can not be added digitally to the picture. 3. Type out your score in bold on your thread post. 4. Scores must be submitted within the posted time frame. 5. Do not submit scores from previous runs. 6. Use one post for your score. You can submit as many as you like by editing your original post. You can bump the thread to announce your new score. Rules: 1. NTSC only, no PAL. This will create a level playing field and not create differences based on timing. 2. OEM, FPGA, and clone consoles are OKAY. 3. Emulators are OKAY. Play game at 100% speed. 4. No save states allowed. 5. Flashcarts (i.e. Everdrive / Power Pak) are OKAY. 6. No turbo or slow motion controllers are allowed. 7. No game genie codes. 8. Is there a reason for this? I played as snowboarder a few times and felt it was easier to control. I put a headphone in one ear and listen to music while playing. Hopefully those music nerds from Brocks music rating thread, or whatever it’s called don’t see this, but so far I’ve been listening to Macabre, Rammstein, Parov Stellar, Maroon 5, Bubba Sparxx and Joyner Lucas. Oh, and I hear my girlfriend watching some weird UK baking show downstairs. Are you all still listening to chiptune Christmas music or have you made your own skiing soundtrack ?
