  1. What Else Might Gensouki Be Thinking? Only Joking! @nerdynebraskan It will be strange not seeing you around here as much for sure, but real life happens as I'm sure everyone knows. Glad to hear you won't become a total stranger though. You've had a Hell of a Run!
  2. Wow, who looked at the source material and came up with that? Looks like Dark Queen's lesser known stunted bumbling step-sister who's not welcome at Thanksgiving Dinner...
  3. All good points. I generally play Gameboy games on a Super Game Boy since I'm not trying to beat them on the go or anything like that so that's a good way to overcome the limitations of using a handheld. As far as the puzzle game factor goes, I can only admit that I hadn't really been thinking of it that way as I personally consider the abundance of puzzle games on Game Boy to be a big positive. But here's another positive the library has going for it: Not too, too many sports games. I'm not saying there aren't good ones but there's a reason they always make up the vast majority of any library's bottom dollar games. I was looking at that bottom portion of the SNES library yesterday for that matter and 40 out of the bottom 48 games were sports titles with the other 8 being oddball genres like "game show", casino, mario paint etc. before I came to the action plat-former "jungle book." I just did a quick rough count of sports titles (not including Racing, pool, pinball or typical fighting games like mortal kombat for example) in the GB library and came up with ~67 which is only 11.8% of the library. Again, not looking to rag on sports games here but having only 3 games that start with "Madden" is big plus compared to say the PS1 which has 9 or the PS2 which has a whopping 16 Madden games. Similar comparisons can be made for games that start with NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, FIFA etc. Also, just my opinion but I really like checking out games that made it to GB after the NES and there are a lot of those. If I love a game, I tend to want to play every port I can, and at least some of those that are particularly challenging are actually a bit easier on Game Boy. Anyway I just wanted to throw a few more pesos into the fountain because I think the Game Boy Library is the best candidate for completion after NES and N64 by a significant margin. I also really like that the PAL exclusives are included, although I've only got a couple at present. And yeah, it should have a few more RPG's, for sure...
  4. Following a look at past years percentages of beaten games and thinking to myself, there must be a lot of crap alongside the good stuff that people just don't want to play I was leaning away from annual w/reset, but after looking through the library again I did not see the excessive pile of crap I was expecting, but rather a library that looks intriguing nearly front to back. That's my opinion anyway. After that and also reading a couple of Wiz's posts (see N64 thread) I definitely think it would be cooler for the Gameboy thread to remain Annual. This past year has been an exception to the general rule of a large chunk of the library being beaten. All it needs is the big dog Game Boy fans to collectively decide or perhaps spontaneously come together to play every game and the more casual fans will follow, much like what happened with the N64 thread this past year.
  5. ¡AWESOME! Following everyone's achievements in these "Beat" threads is a great way to learn about a library especially when there are enough dedicated heads around to actually complete the whole thing. ¡Congrats! to everyone who took part, and especially to those who beat games in the double digits!
  6. WipEout XL is complete. Earned the right to test out the experimental "Piranha" Craft which has all qualities maxed out and no ability to use weapons. It's really weird trying to pilot it, feels like it's wobbling all over the place, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it before long. In terms of track design this is probably the best WipEout game I've played so far, it's really incredible, so many tight squeezes and constantly having to yo-yo between rip roaring acceleration and heavy braking really channels a realistic feel. Would have been cool if it had Weapon and Combo Challenges like WipEout 64 but nothing like that, just 8 Awesome tracks at 4 difficulty speeds with Arcade mode, Time trial and two challenges, the second of which is all 8 tracks in a row at the fastest speed. You have to take 1st to advance and if you take 2nd or 3rd you can retry the track you're on w/o losing a credit. So if you miss the podium you lose one of 3 credits. Most of the tracks took me multiple tries tonight except for 1, 5 and 7 which I nailed on the first go. Unexpectedly, I made the podium every time and never had to burn a single credit. If only I could play this one with an N64 controller and it's amazing 360˚ Joystick, this would be, hands down my favorite WipEout game.

  8. Rain forest on Peninsula Hot springs Crater Lake Whistler in BC is a major spot if you are into skiing/snowboarding That one weird mountain with the weird energy where all the weird stuff happens. (I can't remember the name, the name must have fallen through a portal.) Seward Park has nesting Bald Eagles. If you get lucky you may see a whale surface in the Sound. Mt Si is a popular day hike just outside of Seattle. It's about 4k ft. Seattle restaurants are hit and miss and that's putting it optimistically in my opinion. Believe it or not Tacoma has tons of great hole in the wall restaurants that will serve you much better food for far less money. A lot of places in Seattle you are paying for location and the food is crap. If you like books there is a massive bookstore in Portland - Powell's Books - Also, Ground Kontrol Arcade Bar is 7 blocks from this book store. Not sure which direction your coming from but every time I ate while passing through Western Montana it was amazingly good. Record Collecting Paradise. And of course, if you are into it, there are a few locations for fans of Twin Peaks to visit, namely, the Diner, The Hotel and the Roadhouse.
  9. O.G. Gameboy seems like the one other large library that could potentially happen around here in a years time, in addition to NES and N64 but if history is any indication a year limit might be a bit of a stretch. Either way it seems like a good approach to try and rally around a particular library on any given year.
  10. Cliffhanger on Sega CD again. Just had my first No-Death on the initial Snowboard Run. Was doing well until I ran into some atypical bad luck on the Level 3 Kung Fu Boss who really isn't too difficult. Something about the controls in this game... that can lead to the hands being just a hair sluggish or ill timed at hitting the desired inputs or something.... ....that leads to an ass-whupping. Then the whole thing decided to freeze up on me. (sigh.) Super rare that that happens.. I think it's happened like once before and I don't even remember for sure what game I was playing...

  12. OH MY GOSH, A VARIANT! IT MUST BE SAVED!! IT CAN NEVER BE USED!!!
  13. This Cracked Me Up. A bit of paraphrasing keeps coming to mind: EMPLOYEE: "You want crack with that?" CUSTOMER: "What kind of a Nancy-boy do you take me for? Of course I want crack with that!!"
  14. I do, albeit rather casually. Somewhere around here not too long ago, someone had either made a list of which games came in either or both variants or they had found one elsewhere and posted it... I think.. I know I saw one, so it might just be a matter of looking around a bit...
  15. @Gloves I believe you gave me the incorrect badge: I have the one for NES Completions Gold But it should be the one for the NES Weekly Gold.
  16. Unfortunately I haven't seen that but it sounds similar. A lot of shows have run an episode like that: Sea Lab, Simpsons etc. It's not exactly an original idea, more like one that's time tested and would work well in this case. Just imagine He-man on set: "Where's my hairdresser! And what is this?! I ONLY DRINK EVIAN! Everyone knows I only drink Evian!! You don't get perfectly sculpted Abs like mine drinking pond water, people!"

  18. I used to listen to that Symphonic Led Zeppelin Album all the time circa mid/late 90's. Whenever I needed to relax it was lights out and Sym Led Zep on. It was so good I remember liking it better than the original stuff.
  19. PLAY - NES Contest: 2022 Gold This one please/thank you.
  20. Please Bring Back Pain Points. I've always enjoyed seeing how many of those games in particular I could knock off. I liked seeing how many of those points specifically, myself and others could accumulate. And I loved being able to see everyone's biggest Clears. The hardest of the hard really should have that extra reward. It was always just the ticket to light a fire under my ass to want to buckle down until I could beat one of those badasses. Without pain points I'm more like: "Hmmm should I take the time to get into one of the super hard games? ...Meh." ¡Revivez Les Points Douloureux !
  21. Super Smash TV Only thing major is on either side of the hang tab on back is a rip that has been glued. If you'd like some more pics just post message me.
