Ketsui. Sure, I've cleared the first loop tons of times. And I've even cleared the 2nd Omote loop, which has special requirements and is very, very hard in of itself. But that doesn't get you the true ending. To do that you need to beat the Ura loop, which in order to enter you need to clear the first loop without bombing or dying while also scoring 120 million points. From there you must deal with ridiculously dense suicide bullet clouds and vastly more difficult boss fights. Get through all that and you have to beat the true last boss, which while being one of the "easier" TLBs cave has made, the requirements just to reach it are insanely high. It basically requires you to plan out each second of the game to excruciating detail while also executing your route flawlessly.

Absolutely. Why would you stick around playing that trash? The nes and snes are 2 of the best ever made but that doesn't magically make their later systems not suck.

Nintendo converted a lot of people away when they released that shitshow n64.

I played Diablo 1 for like 1000 hours, so much so that I completely burnt myself out to the series and entire genre. Clicking the mouse 1 million times a second was like a coke rat pushing the button.

I was going to say, having just seen some of the insanely stupid prices for N64 stuff like Sculptor's Cut cart only for $1000, $5000 for a N64 test cart seems cheap considering it's like exponentially more rare.

Oh boy here we go. On one hand it has some cool battles and an excellent sound track. On the other hand you have to slog through one of the worst stories with some of the most annoying characters ever put into a video game. I still can't get over how annoying and what a whiny little bitch Titus was, and it's all done with actual voice acting which makes it 1000x worse. The story was just fucking awful and made no sense whatsoever. This game really marks where the series started to lose it's way and become something completely unrecognizable to those of us who had been playing the games since the beginning. I was tempted to go 0/10 since I really do hate most of it but then I remembered FF X-2 is a real game that was actually made and released to the public so FFX is not the low bar somehow. 2/10.

Metroid 5? What the fuck was metroid 4? Was that the DREADful fps game?

Heh this is timely since I just recently did a no death on hard of Contra III. If you aren't going no-death then the game is pretty broken in that you can just farm lives on the first stage if you just want to cheese the game. I remember doing this back when I first played the game in the early 90s because I was desperate to see the ending on hard. The hardest parts for me were the stage 4 boss and those fucking aliens rushing you in the final stage. It's better to just bomb the living shit out of them if you can.

Metroid ii is the best answer I've seen so far. Gameboy tetris is really good too, but it's not as good as the nes version. The skill ceiling is just so much lower on the gb version.

Just beat contra iii on hard without dying. Wasn't really one of the goals I listed but something I've been meaning to do for a long, long time. Finally put some focused effort into it and it came a lot sooner than I was expecting.

For the most part it feels like a step back from the excellent library of the ps1. I rarely find myself wanting to even turn it on these days. Most of the sequels to ps1 games that I liked got somehow much worse on this system, especially established series like final fantasy, mega man, and metal gear solid, which basically became a parody of itself. This was also the last console I ever purchased new on release. Still, it does have one of the absolute best console exclusive shmups ever made in gradius v. And I'd be lying to myself if I pretended i didn't have a ton of fun messin around with the gta games (not playing the actual missions though). 7/10.

1CC of Einhander on Normal and Hard. Playing it over 20 years later and it still holds up extremely well, especially for an "early 3d" game. The quality and difficulty are both arcade level. It's hard to fathom that this game actually came from Square, but this was back in a time where they actually tried to make other games besides awful RPGs. It's almost like a shmup version of Xenogears with all the mechs and even the visuals and music kind of remind me of that game. What the fuck happened to this company?

The n64.

Any game that requires you to play with a wand and wave your hands around like a spastic wizard it is an immediate 0/10.

I tried fucking around with doing this for a while and could never make it work at all. It never hit the button more then 1 time no matter how I tried doing it. Seems like the sort of thing that would only work with "certain controllers". Same with hypertapping really, some controllers are better than others.
