EDIT CORNER: I've created distinct categories for in-development games and in-development games that may have been abandoned that I know are out there but which haven't reported updates in so long I decided they merited their own list. Some games have not seen an update in awhile but are treated as in regular development, partly because the brewers working on them are here on VGS and maybe this will poke them enough for an update.

VGS Homebrew on the Horizon: Whereas the purpose of the VGS Homebrew Almanac is to keep an up-to-date list of cartridge homebrew releases that are currently available or whose production runs have ended, this list will provide an up-to-date list of cartridge homebrew releases within sight to one degree or another. Part I of this list will include live pre-orders, either through the developer’s website or a crowdfunding page such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Part II of this list will only include homebrew games that previously had pre-orders open, but which are now closed (e.g. a crowdfunding campaign has ended and no further pre-orders are being taken). This section will serve as a sort of limbo for games that will be available soon and will therefore soon be moved to the Homebrew Almanac. Completed roms for games where the developer is planning or considering a physical cart run will also be found here. Part III of this list will be devoted to homebrew projects that developers have announced are in the works, but which are not yet available for pre-order, though demos may have been released to whet our appetites. The line between which projects have been abandoned and which retain a glimmer of hope is a fuzzy one, so developers please pm me if you wish to be added/removed. Part IV is dedicated to the memory of homebrew projects which, as far as I can tell, have been abandoned. This may be because the developer has gone dormant on this project or in general, or a developer had a page for this game that has since vanished. May they one day be resurrected. Links will be to a game’s individual page, development blog, VGS thread, Twitter account, or some combination thereof to provide the community with the best possible access to news. Maybe, we’ll see how it feels once I have it looking like it does in my head. I definitely want to include homebrew no longer available from the original source in a separate category in this thread to make it a reference for newer members of the community. But yeah it might make sense to create a separate thread for what’s on the horizon, breaking out categories for preorder/Kickstarter and also providing links to what is still in development, linking to VGS threads and developer blogs.

This is where I have to figure out where to draw the line if I do decide to include pre-orders. No updates, they are taking reservations but not money yet. I heard from them a few months ago that they were about to slowly begin physical assembly.

Hello all! Thank you Beau for all your diligent attention to promoting awareness of what’s happening in homebrew! With this thread, I’m starting where Beau left off, and creating something of my own to serve as a reference that can promote what’s out there to the gaming community. I’ve also created a different name for this thread to reflect the passing of the torch per se. EDIT CORNER: At last, all links are up-to-date! And I've finished the initial version of my reference thread highlighting what homebrew is on its way, either available for pre-order or is actively in-development, which can be a launchpad for brewers' development blogs with regard to specific projects. I’m open to expanding what’s represented here. Right now we have homebrew for consoles between what are considered the 3rd and 5th generations. With help, we might expand to other consoles of that time period: Virtual Boy, Neo Geo, Atari Jaguar, PS1, and even the Game Gear. More daunting might be expanding to other generations to include the Atari 2600 and ColecoVision of the 2nd generation, and the Dreamcast of the 6th. NOTE ON VARIANTS: As stated in the OP, variants can be included where there is a substantive difference in gameplay, however limited editions, variants of the physical cart itself such as its color, availability from different publishers, or minor in-game differences will not be distinguished. VGS Homebrew Almanac formerly known as The Currently Available Homebrew Thread: The purpose of this thread is to keep an up-to-date list of cartridge homebrew releases that are currently in production for the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Sega Master System, and Genesis. This list is for those who need their homebrew right now (well, now plus shipping time and something for the tax man). Thanks for porting this thread over, this was one I kept in my favorites list so I could check in on it. I know you’re busy with life, but you’ve got a fan in me whenever you are ready to pick it up again.

A little of both. There are some I put next to my console because I want to play it and chip away at the game, but there are others I keep nearby too because I like playing them on days where I feel “ok I don’t have much time because it’s been busy but I’m going to play something for a little bit and enjoy some free time damnit!” So for instance, my chipping away game is Final Fantasy III in SNES, but my play something quick game is 0-to-X.

The key things at stake are the terms and conditions created here and whatever was in place at NA. Since VGS is managed by former NA mods and administrators, I suggest they 1) consult the terms from any records of their time with NA to understand what rules existed there, 2) draw up something of their own (if they haven’t already) so users here clearly understand what the situation is here. Though it depends what the terms were in on NA to know for certain, most likely any user content licensing provided that ownership of content belonged to the original poster and the public; meaning the point is that posting on a forum such as this didn’t mean you lost your rights over your content, just that you probably lost exclusive ownership over it. As far as ownership questions, whoever is paying the bills owns this place. Anyone kicking in a couple of bucks or saying they’re a major member of the community because they post a lot owns nothing. Gloves and MrWunderful have chimed in some and shared their intent. If they haven’t already, they could form a distinct entity that pays the bills and memorializes decision-making to make it easier to pass the torch as needed, but that’s their decision to make.

Thanks for the update! I’ve been trying to keep track of all the projects in development that I had saved tabs on NA to make sure for continuity of news. Another one I was curious about had to do with the NESdev compo. Since the old page for the competition was on NA, it now reroutes to GoCollect, so I hope @NESHomebrew also continues here any updates on future competitions as well as cart releases from the most recent iterations. M-Tee had mentioned the next cart would combine entries from Vol. 4 & 5, which I’m excited to play eventually.

Did Banshaku make it to VGS? I remember him mentioning the FC release of Haradius Zero happening this past weekend. I’m curious what Impact Soft’s response was to interest in an NES cart run.

For me, it started as “what are the games any self-respecting ________ owner must have as a baseline”, so I’m giving myself a good broad experience of everything my consoles offer, then it expands/contracts as I try to learn more about what’s out there that is similar to games I know and enjoy.

Definitely had this happen to me a few times, though once in awhile it’s more like I’m trying to talk myself out of being pissed I lost.
