  1. 428550 One way or another, I'm now regretting having sold my copy of this game. Planning on fixing that soon!
  2. Years and years of being asked this question has led me to a couple of simple truths... Playing in competition: Ask the community first. Playing by yourself: Don't think so hard and just have fun!
  3. This may be slightly old news, but I couldn't find a dedicated thread. I think it just released digitally (or is about to) on all the modern platforms. I'm excited for this one since I've heard great things about it, but wasn't planning on springing for a physical cart. Anyway here's the trailer if you haven't seen it.
  4. I have this on a PS1 compilation (Midway Collection 2 I think). Spent way more time than I expected with it. It's no Robotron, but what is really? Loads of fun!
  5. Super excited here. Never made my own chiptune song before because I never knew where to start. Then I saw the links to all the different free online tools. Thanks for posting this thread! Here's my entry, made with beepbox. Started off as a straight cover and ended up becoming a mashup of a couple of game shows that I would have liked to see made into NES games. rdrunner Entry.mp3
  6. Original 8/10, Samus Returns 7/10 Despite its hardware limitations, Metroid 2 is a great step in the evolution of the series and one of my favorite Game Boy titles. Samus Returns is a capable adventure game that had its moments, but all the modern "enhancements" made it so different that it's barely similar to its source material. I tried it, beat it, and sold it.
  7. Yup, this thread is not changing my mind about avoiding BotW let alone the sequel. I'm sure I could use a walkthrough and "shorten" the game to like 50 hours, but even that is more game time than I have in a month.
  8. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box has a whole series of puzzles where you make cups of tea with specific ingredients for various people. Like with most Layton minigames, you can't really work on them until you collect all the pieces of your tea-making kit. Also FWIW in Henry Hatsworth, the screen says "TEA TIME" whenever you use your special power suit.
  9. 4/10 - Tried it plenty of times, but it's just too boring. Not that Yoshi's other NES game is a gem or anything, but I'd much rather play that.
  10. Nice! I've been considering this one. I have other Atari compilations but as usual they stuck in a few new arcade games that have never been released on a console before. Cloak & Dagger jumped right off the page when I saw the game list, though not sure how it handles without a trak ball.
  11. 7/10 - While I can definitely not see myself putting quarters into the actual machine, I had a lot of fun playing this game on Xbox 360. I also have fun memories of the listening to the curator at Funspot tell stories about restoring his cabinet while standing next to it. He would stop in mid-sentence every time the demo movie played, recite it perfectly, then go back to what he was saying.
  12. "I'm finished" with Kid Icarus. Oh wait...
  13. Love it. My favorite stage from this game too!

I chose Konami, but I'll admit it's like choosing between my favorite foods (all are good, but which one today?). Slight edge to Konami for making their games a bit harder than Capcom does, at least on NES. High score challenges are much more interesting when the difficulty increases if you beat the game (rough example: Gradius > Legendary Wings).
  15. I like Syfa and her path the best. She's the only helper that's actually useful in combat. The others are only good for taking shortcuts. I do like the clock tower as well as a lot of the levels in the Alucard route (so basically most of the game lol). The only stinker is that lower path through Dracula's castle with the falling blocks. Also, triple-shot holy water FTW!
  16. Liking the poll results here. For a while there I was thinking "here we go again". NES Metroid is absolutely a classic game, easily one of the best of its era. Complaining about it in 2023 for not having certain quality of life improvements that actually evolved from its legacy is just wrong.
  17. Just wanted to say I'm having fun reading your exploits on Baba Is You. It's on my todo list to try this game as well!
  18. 9/10 - Are DKC games like Mega Man, where people's favorites are usually the first ones they played? Most of my fond memories of this franchise are from the first game, but I love the whole series.
  19. 7/10 - It's nothing special, but it's still a very capable beat 'em up. I'm honestly surprised to see all the low scores. Controls are fine, music is fairly memorable, and difficulty is not too hard. It's still on my frequent play list when I bust out my Genesis. I will say the sound effects are a bit comical. Like how I hear the word "purple" every time I knock an enemy down.
  20. I didn't get a 3DS until several years after it came out. I only found out about the ambassador thing through Wikipedia, when I was looking up a list of VC games. I was mostly just annoyed that: The GBA ambassador games were not made available for purchase. I get giving them to certain people for free, but why not keep them on the eShop? No other GBA titles existed, even though the system could clearly handle the platform.
  21. Been mostly ready for this, buying up this and that over the past year. I will also add that there is a small set of games on some massive discounts as part of this, particularly from Capcom. For example, every Ace Attorney game is just $3 each. This includes the original trilogy bundle, making those games $1 apiece!
  22. @koifish not sure if you're looking for hints, but here are a couple if you want them. Hint #1: Hint #2:
  23. The Tail of Beta Lyrae for Atari 8-bit computers. Revisiting one of my all-time favorites and just reached a new personal best (388,354), including a rather elusive milestone (beat Loop 4)! Small miracle, but for the first time in ages, I recorded and published a video, making good on an informal promise to post a complete run of the game, which is something I couldn't do the last time since I didn't keep all of the footage. Video can be found here. Hope you enjoy!
  24. Looks interesting, but not enough to run out and buy a new console for. (yes it's on Steam, no I don't play games on PC)
