  1. 9/10 - Easy vote. One of my all time favorite experiences with my NES. I'd probably vote the same for parts 2&3, perhaps dropping the other NES episodes to 8's. No 10's here, since those are reserved for stuff I just love a wee bit more. You'd probably not be surprised to hear that I only own physical copies of 1-3. Original trilogy all the way! I also played and beat this game before any sequels existed, which while I admit allows me to forgive a few shortcomings that would be improved in future games, it also gives me a different perspective on the sequels and their added features. For example: E-Tanks? Hardly ever used them, since I was so used to not having them. Beating Yellow Devil, Clone, and the last boss rush without any powerups will do that. Rush who? Just give me the magnet beam any day! Charged Shots? Discourages the use of sub-weapons. Final note: Gutsman is my favorite robot master in the series!
  2. Haven't played any of these and I don't have a PS3 or higher. Probably not gonna happen. Can't play everything.
  3. I threw down a vote for SNES, if for no other reason than I'm familiar with just how crazy those prices are. I hear that Fall Guys is now free to play...
  4. Am I the only one who at least chuckled when he heard that Mega Man 3 was "Rushed"? (No? Ok...)
  5. Out of the games I owned, I think the one game that fits this thread is Bubble Bobble (NES). I could only get to the infamous stage 57 as a kid. Today is a much different story, though it admittedly took a lot of practice. I could beat the rest of my library though (about 20 NES games).
  6. Fun thread, but I'm afraid my simple answer is "How should I know? I can't afford this stuff anyway!"
  7. Thanks for the tip. Not sure if I'm ready to open up my controller yet, but if things get really bad I'll give it a shot.
  8. Wondering if anyone here has dealt with this problem before: I have this OEM PS2 Dual Shock 2 controller that has always worked great, but every so often the start button fails at odd moments. For example, I recently loaded Capcom Classics Collection on my PS2 Slim. I was able to navigate the menu to select a game just fine and then use the start button to get past the screen that screen says to "press start button" to finish loading. From there, the start button can be used to begin a game UNLESS I specifically selected "1943: The Battle of Midway". On this one game, the start button fails and the game won't begin. I can switch to another controller and the start button works fine. I can consistently repeat this error with the same controller, game, and selections, but otherwise the controller works fine. Any idea what's going on here? Is there an easy fix or do I just need a new controller (if so, any recommendations)?
  9. There is, but it's actually two separate games. The first "legacy collection" has the parts 1-4 and the second has parts 5-8. If you don't care about Mega Man X7 or X8, there are other compilations that have the first 6 games. I think they're on PS2/Xbox/GameCube.
  10. Tecmo Super Bowl (NES). There's a reason why people still hack the rosters. Other minor examples (bit easier when the series have few games): ActRaiser Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode Power Blade Rad Racer
  11. 8/10 - Fun, top-tier NES classic that deserves a lot more sequels. To people who think this game has not "aged well", modern games have spoiled you.
  12. That would be me in grade school, playing Double Dragon and Yie Ar Kung Fu instead of repeatedly falling on the skating rink.
  13. 7/10 - It's a nicely made game that I would rate higher if only I had any lasting memories of actually playing it. Hard to get that when you beat a game in under 30 minutes on your first playthrough.
  14. 6/10 - Had it, tried it, sold it. This really isn't my type of game at all. I'm sure it's fine if given more time, but I just didn't have the patience for it.
  15. Yeah, Frogger 2 is a pretty complex game, even though it's really just multi-screen Frogger. Well worth it once you get into it though. So you've played Lode Runner on multiple systems, which makes me ask, which version do you like better? From what I can tell, the NES version has way fewer levels, but better presentation. Apple II and Atari 8-bit are about the same. Anyway that's cool. Atari computers are tougher and tougher to come by, but I hope you get a chance to try out your disks someday.
  16. I actually own just one arcade cabinet, which is original Mario Bros. It's not flashy, but it has infinite replayability. Even now, after learning everything there is to know about the game, it can still surprise me. It's also hard to marathon, since it only gives you one bonus life early in the game (at least on the US version). Most of the early classics are either really short or else easy to marathon once mastered, which makes Mario Bros stand apart.
  17. Anyone here still have an Atari computer? I've recently been playing all my old favorites on my XE system, such as Jumpman, Frogger 2, Lode Runner, and Montezuma's Revenge. Spent the most time with The Tail of Beta Lyrae, which continues to keep me engaged with it's procedurally generated shump insanity. Still dreaming improving my record on that one, but I'd have to loop the game 4 times to do it (unlikely).
  18. Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy (NES). First time in almost a decade that I beat an NES game I hadn't played before (last one was Battle Kid 2 when it came out). Finally decided to branch out a bit.
  19. Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy is completed! (100 stars version) I usually don't contribute to this thread, but I just beat an NES game I haven't played before, so I figured why not? Did this one the hard way. No emulation, no walkthroughs, no help of any kind. Very fun mixture of platforming and puzzles more suited to point and click adventures. A few infuriating issues keep it from being great, such as no save battery or password system, plus some overly wild RNG. Still well worth a playthrough!
  20. I don't do complete sets. Just sets of completely good games. That said if I were to actually do it, definitely NES first, followed by SNES.
  21. I've actually played both and liked the first one better in certain ways. Legacy of Darkness is good too, but I recommend starting with the first.
  22. So in World 1-2 there's the really high jump to the warp zone vs World 2-3 with just the long, low bridge... All kidding aside, not voting. I thoroughly enjoyed each Mario game as it came out. Perfect experiences, impossible to choose.
  23. Super Adventure Island is basically a super easy version of the original Adventure Island/Wonderboy gameplay, enhanced with more interesting boss fights and a killer soundtrack. Probably worth it just for the music. I haven't played the sequel, but for the price I'm not interested either. Just another "rare" game that everyone ignored when it was released.
  24. Prince of Persia. Definitive version of this classic can only be found for SNES. That's about all I can add to what is already shaping out into a fine list.
  25. My favorite as well! This game has lots of great tracks, but this one really stands out.
