  1. For cataloging this type of stuff it might be better to use google docs.
  2. I'm still of the opinion that these are not box variants but boxes retrofit with glorified coupons. But glad you are documenting it. I am not sure if this one was posted, but here you go. I can't see most of the pics in the first post. Dead links? Sorry for blurry pic.
  3. That was my first impression as well. I don't know why anyone would think using the name was a good thing. It was a lame console at the time. But we should give Tommy the benefit of the doubt as he is obviously passionate about it and deserves a chance because of that alone. But yeah, I have no plans to pre-order such a thing, and I am not sure what the market is. Doesn't mean there isn't one though.
  4. I feel the Kickstarter video could have been given a bit more attention to production values, but the impression I get is he is interviewing Howard and it will be turned into a book similar to the format of his web comic. Sounds good to me.
  5. I mean there is more to it than samples. Not sure how this is restored. Sounds like someone just took marioworld.mid and played it on an awe32 and set the reverb to "Hall 2". "they’re a bit livelier and have more echoes" Pardon?
  6. A lot of reproductions have subtle differences like this on purpose I think. They probably just had it in their possession (possibly being fooled themselves). They then bought actual legit 90s stickers from here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Toys-R-Us-Price-Gun-Orange-Stickers-Tags-1-Rolls-Unused-Rare-Garvey/284011583253 and here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Sticker-Cash-Register-Product-Returns-Employee-Promo-Store-Display/402006283785 And then stuck them on their box to try to make it look more legit. Apparently, this low effort stuff works.
  7. Yeah with legit stickers they got off eBay to make it look more "legit". Guess grading isn't so bad after all?
  8. This Youtube account just keeps posting amazing stuff. It's a really interesting watch just to see all the custom displays FAO Schwarz had for video games, but also during all of this magic they just have to discuss violent video games. I feel sorry for the "only G movies" girl. I can't imagine what parents would do if they saw today's violent games.
  9. I remember people doing the weird hand positioning back then. Usually it was aunts and uncles or some kid who never played a console game before. Perhaps it had something to do with that is how you would push buttons on an arcade cabinet.
  10. The Youtube account that uploaded all the other cool Nintendo related videos just uploaded NWC footage. I made a playlist so you can see all 4 clips in order.
  11. Wow this is great. This guy posted several cool Nintendo videos lately. The best part is the very end. This looks like the NYC Herald Center TRU which was Nintendo's flagship store and had lots of custom displays in the window over the years. Too bad the cameraman didn't show the window at the end. Would love to have seen that window in motion with all the different fiber optics.
  12. The World of Nintendo one I've seen go for a bit, but most people don't know what these are and so I don't think there is a lot of interest. The same ones have been on ebay for quite awhile. It's pretty special I think. Less than a few hundred made, employee only item, and says World of Nintendo in the exact same image as the the injected molded M41W sign. If you are into merchandising and employee stuff it is definitely a keeper.
  13. They were just used to hold a notepad and pen. Used by Nintendo's merchandising force and corporate. Probably given store managers too. Are you in the Redmond area? I always see stuff like this show up there at the thrift stores. Here are some on the eBays: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Employee-Rep-Portfolio-and-Pen-Promo-Display-Mario-Zelda/112844893394 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Play-It-Loud-Employee-Portfolio-Promo-Store-Display-Embossed-Folder-Binder/402396351984 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Employee-Rep-Portfolio-and-Pen-Promo-Display-Mario-Zelda/112844901560
  14. These are pretty nice. I love the embossing. These were only used by Nintendo employees and industry insiders in the 90s. They come up for sale every now and then. There is one for each year up until around 98. I think this is 1992 and the best one in my opinion.
  15. The beginning of this thread has the pinout for the DB9 if you want to make your own scart->db9 cable. I never tried doing this. I am not sure if there is additional amplification on the kiosk pcb for the video though. So might require duplicating whatever it is doing. Yeah the other thing sounds like vertical collapse. When looking from the back of the monitor there is a large heat sink on the left side with 1 or 2 ICs. These probably need to be replaced. I don't have the part # handy so you will have to read it off the chip. I do know they fail as I replaced them once before. Could just be caps too. You can replace the caps around that area and it might help. I would suggest recapping the whole monitor.
  16. Not sure if you can count a coupon stuck to a box a variant?
  17. I agree the animation style looks bad. I'd rather them just do a simple 2d pixel art style new GnG game.
  18. This adapter was such a good idea! Right?
  19. Yeah I would be very tempted to mod this for RGB as the M80C RGB monitors look way better in comparison.
  20. If you are referring to not getting payments through paypal now. Yes it is true. Though 24 hours seems to be the norm (this is of course bank business days). At first I was mortified I wouldn't have immediate access to my funds. But I have already gotten used to it and there hasn't been a situation where I actually needed the money right away. It is also nice there is no huge eBay bill at the end of the month. Unless of course you used Fedex/UPS who bill after they scan or have other non-fee related charges. Also the %0.65 you get now is a joke. No one except the people who make 7 figures would care. And even then I doubt they care. To put it in perspective. You get $65 extra dollars now for every $10,000 you make.
  21. I don't want to get into details as I don't want to burn the buyer in public. But, lets say you sold someone an NES and you said the screen was really distorted and needs a new pin connector, and you included a screenshot of the garbled screen. Well then the buyer opens a return not as described. They show a picture of a much more garbled screen than yours. Well I guess it is worth a try. You are right.
  22. How? Show them that he was trying to sell it on Instagram? Hard to prove its him 100%, even though the pics are identical. At this point I'll be out around $30, and not worth the hassle of sitting on the phone with eBay only to hear there is nothing they can do. He's a long time seller on eBay and Instagram too.
  23. I have been selling on eBay for at least 10 years. Like many of us I sell to fund my collecting habits. I had something happen that I have never had happen before. Well at least not to my knowledge. I sold something defective. It was listed with pictures and described as being defective. The exact day the buyer received the item I saw them list it on Instagram for sale. People can buy stuff from me to resell and I am fine with that, but I was surprised they thought it was a good enough deal to flip it. Well a few days later I get a "not as described" case open from the buyer. That means I have to pay return shipping fees and eat the original shipping cost as well. And also not sure if this is still true, but I lose the final value fees as well? The reason for returning it is that "it was more defective than they thought". Which of course is just an excuse to return it for free. They essentially failed at flipping it and now I am stuck losing the money. This still does not put me off selling on eBay as its still the best way, but people like this really stink.
  24. Agreed it was properly structured like the book. Unlike Highscore which was a mess. It's too bad more people can't see this. I have no recollection of thinking Genesis had more mature games. Outside of Mortal Kombat not having red blood on SNES I do not remember this being an issue at the time. And I was a teenager so I would've cared. SNES definitely had more cutesy games like Mario, Yoshi, etc. But also less cutsie games like F-Zero, Castlevania, Metroid, etc. This whole it was "more mature" was mostly all manufactured non-sense by Sega's marketing. The documentary did not cover this fact. Nintendo didn't actually fall behind in the mature categories until N64 era. At least not from my memory of events. I mean yes you had bloody MK1, Night Trap, and crap like that. But I really don't remember feeling that I was missing anything.
