I like a lot of genres, but 2D platformers are my #1.
-
SNES. NES is my #1.

10. One of my favorite games ever. Got it within the first few months it launched. Have played through it to 100% about a half dozens times.
-
I gave it a 9. It's great. I'm a retro (80s/90s) gamer through & through, and this is the first console I've put any serious time into in many many years since I got one for my kids this past Xmas. It's a lot of fun.

DKR. It’s one of the best games on the N64 IMO.
-
I see your point and don’t disagree... but yet I think AI is more cheap/difficult than any of the 3 NG games, and less enjoyable.
-
I gave it a 6. It’s a classic and a pretty good game considering its an earlier release.. but like an earlier poster mentioned, it’s not a game I’m jonesin’ to replay and there are many NES platformers that are more fun than AI, including the sequels. I played the shit out of it a few years ago and beat it a bunch of times, including a few 1CCs (one of which was a 1-death). Beating this game is very satisfying, but it comes at the expense of a lot of frustration. The most irritating parts are when in some of the later levels you die and lose your weapon, and it then just becomes brutal to try and get through. You’re forced to inch your way through the level with enemies coming at you from all angles, but yet are up against the time bar. And those damn falling platforms at the end of 8-3. Eff them!

An interesting topic. I remember a similar thread about this back on NA. I went with 41-50%. My guess is at least half of all of them produced are gone. I think some underestimate the number of people who are [even at today’s market value] too lazy/ignorant to look up values prior to throwing stuff out. People get overwhelmed cleaning out either their own junk that’s piled up, or that of the estate of a relative, and just start tossing shit. As mentioned above, back in the late 90s & early 2000s when you couldn’t give NES stuff away, I’m sure a lot of it was tossed. Another factor is the games that have fallen victim to the elements such as fires, floods, stored in extreme hot/cold for too long and no longer work, etc... Additionally the amount of games who became donor carts to repros.

I actually picked up a copy of this game recently. Paid about $70 for it back in February. Crazy to see it sell for triple that in 3 months.

Movie Debate #68: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
Strikezone1 replied to Reed Rothchild's topic in Everything Else
One of my top favorite movies of all time. I gave it a 10. I (like many others) have nostalgia for it from when it first came out in the height of the TMNT era. I re-watched it within the last year or 2 and was blown away by how well it has held up. TMNT 2 & TMNT 3 are incredibly corny, but the first TMNT is excellent. -
He had to have meant LS. $2,900 for SE would be a steal! Still crazy that a LS sold for that much. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Little-Samson-Nintendo-Entertainment-System-1992-Mint-Rare-NES-/333972890358?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

What are the rarest games for nes.
Strikezone1 replied to ThadMyster's topic in Collector's Questions
It's pretty much impossible to quantify exactly what the top 10 would be. Everyone has different opinions on the exact rarity of certain games. As others have mentioned, I think this guide that ThePhleo created is easily the most accurate out of anything you will find on the internet. I do agree that Casino Kid II is one of more rare licensed. It just doesn't get talked about much because almost no one besides full set collectors want a gambling NES game. If I had to throw out my top 10 it would be (no particular order): 1. Cowboy Kid 2. Dragon Fighter 3. Wayne's World 4. Casino Kid II 5. Bonk's Adventure 6. Flintstones Dinosaur Peak 7. Bubble Bobble Part 2 8. Kid Klown 9. Zombie Nation 10. Wacky Races -
What are the rarest games for nes.
Strikezone1 replied to ThadMyster's topic in Collector's Questions
There's a blog thread on this site that ranks the rarity of the NES library: Excluding Stadium Events which is the only 10, there are 15 licensed titles that were given a 9 for rarity. So choose any 10 of those 15. -
Reasons for collecting video games?
Strikezone1 replied to avatar!'s topic in General Collecting Discussion
*To play them *Thrill of the hunt finding them *Nostalgia -
@the_wizard_666 I see your point about unlicensed. I personally don’t collect or have interest in unlicensed (outside of the half dozen Tengen carts I’ve had since the 90s) so needless to say I’m good with omitting them. But I at least see your point if they used to be in the list. Homebrews seems like it might be tough. Aren’t there hundreds by now? Are the ROMs for all of them easily available for people who don’t have physical carts of them? I don’t follow homebrews much so I genuinely don’t know. If anything I’d be for adding the few fully completed but cancelled games like California Raisins, Titan Warriors, Time Dover: Eon Man, Robocop vs Terminator, etc.
-
Gotcha. Aren’t a majority of the unlicensed games pretty shitty though? Outside of a few decent at best Camerica games, and a few Tengen games that never got licensed?
-
Nice takedown of Werewolf, @Gaia Gensouki! Tough game for sure. I can’t disagree that the controls and difficulty are frustrating. But it’s one of those game where once ya get the hang of it, it’s not too bad. I had figured out an almost sure-bet pattern against the final boss that lightened the frustration. The biggest headache for me was easily the waterfall stage.

What’s missing? Are you looking for PAL/JP games to be included? Just curious.

What constitutes a "legit" playthrough for classic games?
Strikezone1 replied to T-Pac's topic in The Gauntlet
It has a lot to do with people who beat games by using cheats implying that doing so is on the same level of achievement as beating games without cheats (i.e. as how the developers designed the game). Most people understand that the 2 are different, but there's always a few knuckleheads that don't. Most of the time, the people I see being labeled as "gatekeepers" are merely elating to this point, as opposed to being a snob or jerk. It really has nothing to do with the "play/beat games how you want for fun" - that is preconceived, blatantly obvious, and objectively true. Multiple replies in this thread have made a mention along the lines of "play games however you want for your personal enjoyment".
