  1. Yeah, great change. Never in their wildest dreams did they think CIB Mario's would be 20k, thus making it ripe for IMPs to try and boost overall grade. This policy will deter any piecing together of incorrect parts and rightfully so.
  2. I must say, he delivered that racist joke pretty eloquently. I listened to the clip on a Yahoo news article and it was like he talked faster than my brain could process it. But yes, you can't say those types of things in this day and age.
  3. I see that, that's the Wata editor goof! It looks good on the version I submitted
  4. A lot of people had been asking me for this, and it originally kicked off with a thread on NA. I had been pushing for the analysis to get out before the HA listings completed and here it is. https://www.watagames.com/learn/blog/post/wata-crossovers/ Cliff notes for the lazy, these are the rough rule of thumb "sweet spots" for average crossovers within a grade. Any specific game may fall outside of that range though. 80 -> 8.5 / B+ to 9.2 / A 80+ -> 9.0 / A to 9.4 / A+ 85 -> 9.0 / A to 9.6 / A+ 85+ -> 9.2 / A to 9.6 / A++ 90 -> 9.4 / A+ to 9.8 / A++ If you love talking data or do more advanced analysis, I encourage you to read the article. Share any thoughts here and I'd be glad to answer any questions.
  5. Welcome aboard, follow you on IG and you show cool things!
  6. When you keep expanding the "holy grail" list by another title and title it really isn't that special anymore. I'm a huge Mega Man fan admittedly but it has never rivaled Mario and Zelda. Kind of like N64 to NES / SNES... has a cult following but a more segmented market than NES / SNES which are more mainstream. Megaman is the same way compared to Mario and Zelda which get AAA releases (often launch releases) at every new console generation. Also, just to remind people before the debates ensue, one data point does not equal market value. Some auctions go low and some go high, and market value is best estimated at a range, maybe plus / minus 10 to 20 percent. I.e. you don't say a game is worth $50k, you'd say it's probably worth $40-$60k and competitive snipes would register there. Which one is lucky enough to win could just be the luck of the draw.
  7. The market on these is never coming back. The new money pouring in isn't going to care about homebrews from NA which doesn't even exist anymore. They will always have some value but the amount of people willing to shell out big bucks for 2008 or 2009 diminishes every year. It was one thing to collect them all when there were a few, but when this "legacy" keeps extending year to year, collecting the full run loses appeal. You know, same reason people don't collect a Madden set because it keeps going on and on.
  8. Braveheart is here, he posted the Pawn Stars thread. If you try to tag someone using the @ system then you can tell if they are a member.
  9. Yes, this VGS forum has been better than I could have imagined. It sucks that I've lost all of my NA bookmarks but those are things I'd only reference once in a blue moon anyway. For day to day activity and knowledge this forum has it all. The extras functionalities does make NA seem fairly ancient too.
  10. Welcome, I believe you had the Al Bundy avatar if I'm not mistaken?
  11. This one is a little disappointing for 2 reasons... One, I sold a raw that went 9.4 / A a couple of months ago lower than the bid price already. I don't regret the sale at all, I'm just continually amazed that people cannot seem to accurately assess raw grades. It was on eBay with crickets. I've learned to just submit my raw stuff that I know is 9.4 or better because calling it "Near Mint" on ebay apparently doesn't motivate people. And more importantly, this is clearly mislabled as a no Rev-A. It's a Rev-A and clearly marked on the front cover. Yet both the Wata case and HA ad are incorrect.
  12. So this is something that I just can't relate to. I collect games not comics and have never owned a single one. I recognize that lots of collectors wind up collecting multiple things (I also do some baseball cards / autographed sports memorabilia), but what is the specific draw between comics and games these days? Other than certified games sharing a similar scale, what else ties them together? I know super heroes appear in games, and that is fine. But cartoons appear in games, Star Wars is in games, Disney is in games, Sports Icons are in games, movie stars are in games, etc. Many of those have viable collector markets too. Yet those crossover collectors haven't really appeared, at least not in droves like the comic buyers. No analogy is going to fit perfectly but the relation to toys seems to make the most sense. Similar time period in popularity starting in the 80s, mean to be used instead of collected, significant crossover to TV / Movies / other marketing. Cards and comics span many more eras and were regarded as a collectible by the 80s I'm sure. Board games seem relatable but they too go back a much longer generation. Toys have also been around forever, but the toys I inherited from my dad were generic cowboys / indians things. They didn't seem to be as multibranded as toys with TV appeal and heavy marketing towards children. Anyways, curious for thoughts?
  13. Do you have a pic of it? Was a clean separation or did the top crack and show obvious damage?
  14. Yeah I dont take the people that run them seriously. People use it as a way to mark up their item. Cant sell for $100? Let's do 15 tickets at $10 each! And people actually do them too.
  15. Do you care about condition? If yes, then don't piece together in general. When you buy a CIB the cart inside is generally in nicer shape than a loose cart. If no, then just bulk buy lots with CIBs in them to get a good start.
  16. It was entertaining but not a serious attempt at a sale. I don't mind the price estimate as it "feels like" north of $250k at the moment in my personal opinion. I agree that you don't try to pin down the exact value of it, you set a floor and have no idea where it would actually wind up. Stickers have been down as a whole since summer though, but this is the one game that probably would buck the trend because it's a 1 of 1 and *the* game from the set. But yeah... enough of this game already.
  17. The loose cart collecting was at a peak around the NES classic release. You can hack those and play anything you want. Why would you keep stacks of loose carts at that point? Theyll do okay, never going to zero, but its going to be high condition stuff that climbs. Ordinary titles or ordinary condition will be flat or decline most likely.
  18. I wont believe a single thing out of them until I see it myself. All I've heard is empty promises and they are great at over promising and under delivering. Maybe they get the segment right that appeals to them but no way they get it all right.
  19. Yeah I recommended Billy in the 1st response, those are very popular and well made. @MrWunderful Dont you use Billys?
  20. For sure, x2 on the NES / SNES classics comment. 50 is a lot for each.
  21. I don't think that's the case after the redesign in 2013/2014. The shelves used to have full deepness to them. Now they are recessed and a full inch or more shorter. Look at the Amazon pic on the 756 you referenced: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058O8GPY/ref=psdc_3236443011_t1_B0058O8GWW You'll see that the very middle "shelf" is full depth. That's the fixed anchor point. The adjustable shelves though, look how significantly recesssed they are. Your Wata games would overhang a lot on those and I wouldn't feel secure with it myself.
  22. YOU LIKE THAT! Vikings fans? @doner24 @B.A. Cousins bought us back from down 24-0 in the YOU LIKE THAT game, biggest comeback in Skins history. I'll never forget it because I was offered tickets to that game for free but passed, didn't want to do the whole day drink fest. Of course it would wind up being a historical game. I'm picking the Vikings to at least advance past the Wild Card round this year, not signing up further than that though. That's two in a row for Cousins, big win over the Cowboys in primetime games where he always chokes, then surviving a 20-0 deficit to rebound and win. He's turned the team around since his receivers called him out, that's for sure.
  23. Did the game survive unscathed? I had a Wata case cracked and damaged in shipping (I was receiver) but game was well protected and recased appropriately. Reholder prices are only $15 according to their site. Probably have to insure both ways but it shouldnt take the full $100 to fix it.
  24. They redesigned the Oskars about 5 or 6 years ago and reduced the shelf size even further. I think they're perfect for for CIBs but they'd be too skinny for Wata. You could theoretically put them on the shelves but they'd overhang a lot. Maybe compare the dimensions of an Oskar to an IKEA Billy if going for store bought.
