8/10. This movie is just really fun. The plot is silly, but the characters carry the film. From the workman-like Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) to the over-the-top Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker) to the maniacal Jean-Baptiste (Gary Oldman) to the confused, yet sincere Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), the performances are a joy. There aren't a lot of sci-fi comedies out there, so it also gets points simply for existing. I love the practical effects and alien designs, but the special effects were also pretty good for the time. This is such a unique movie and there really is nothing quite like it. This would never make it to theaters nowadays, so it really is a film of its time.

Killer and easily one of the best films of '97.  Way better than that lame ass porn movie about the coke addict with the big dick.  What was it called?  Oh yeah, Titanic.  That movie blows.  Anyway, probably a toss up between Fifth Element and MIB for my favorite movie that year.

"only" gave it an 8, but it is a great movie with a great cast, all in their prime.

Lots of very creative action in a time before that sort of thing was commonly overdone.

While it is a great movie, that holds up well, I think anyone that watches this movie for the first time now is going to be missing a lot of the context of the times for what made this move so special in the 90's.
