There is something odd about you!

What is one thing that people generally think is odd about you?  (There may well be more than one but let's not go overboard - for example I am not going to cop to worshiping Cthulhu!)

I don't drink coffee - I have had maybe three cups in my life.  Just never acquired a taste for it.

I have no desire to own a dog. I don’t hate them or anything, but I’m just not a fan of the time and financial commitment, the mess, the smell, etc. I’m a sort of germaphobe which contributes to this sentiment. I have no issues with cats though. 🤷‍♂️

I’ll pet other people’s dogs, play with them, be friendly with them, etc., but I draw the line at being jumped on.

I loathe extreme dog culture though. “I trust dogs more than people!/I value a dog’s life more than a person’s!/If you don’t like dogs that makes you a bad person!”

I don’t know how to answer this other than: me overall?

Seriously I just have a certain joie de vivre that even when it’s contextually appropriate is, by others’ standards, a bit much.

A good example would be from one of my last jobs at a law firm. Every year the office had a casino night in our building’s atrium. The firm hired a company that brought roulette wheels, blackjack, and even craps tables. Everyone came in their regular office clothes. I came like this...

Being that I'm someone probably on the lower end of the autism spectrum or... almost on the spectrum, small talk is always awkward for me.  As a rule of thumb, when I'm in a group of people I just tend to be quiet.  I'm not anti-social, or even much of an intravert but when I'm around a bunch of random people who I have little in common with, I'm just extremely awkward and can't carry on a conversation easily at all.  I couldn't work a crowd to save my life BUT put me in a group of like-minded people with a unified purpose, my personality and demeanor can be the exact opposite.

When I'm with a bunch of developers talking shop, I can have good discussions and make people laugh at my inside jokes.  I'm a good teacher and I thrive on the social interaction.  Put me around gamers, and I'm a pretty normal nerd who can trash talk with the best of them, even though he's likely to get schooled at every multiplayer game there is.  But, put me in a party with a bunch of people I don't know very well and every interaction is going to be forced, difficult and cringe-worthy.

Maybe quite a few of us here at VGS feel this way, but it's not super-common in general.  I mean, I think everyone knows someone who's "that guy".  Well, I am that guy.

I would both recognize the uniqueness of someone like that, while at the same time thinking that was both well-played, and I'd be about 1% jealous for not thinking of this myself.

I think we could be brothers.  This is me.

Edit:

Work settings and group projects, even with people I don't know, I excel at.  Will lead the group or talk a lot, make jokes, etc.  However for a group setting, like you outlined above, with people I don't know, lucky if I say a dozen words.

I'm sure the oddest thing about me is owning thousands of old video games

Whenever people see my huge CIB NES collection, they always think it's a bunch of VHS tapes. As soon as I tell them those little cardboard boxes are old video games, they suddenly think I am a weird man-child. But in my head, I'm like, "Anyone who has 1000 VHS tapes is the weirdo!"

A bunch of heathens, I tell ya. 😂

I usually get the "wtf really?" look when people find out I don't eat ice cream. I just don't like cold food in general. I am the bane of my family's existence if there is any kind of ice cream with stuff in it. Peanut Butter Cups, Cookie Dough, etc because I will dig that stuff out to eat it, leaving a massacred mound of ice cream.

Now if they were beta tapes that would be odd.......

You joke, but I'm the guy slowly buying up the cheapest old school DIVX DVDs which are 100% useless. I found 3 at the Re:Store for $1/each once and that was it. I now pick them up when I can get one's I don't own for around $1-2, maybe $3 if it's a rare disc. I did "overpay" to get a copy of GoldenEye. $5ish, IIRC.

IIRC, didn't somebody figure out the algorithm that they use and came up with a master code that unlocked everything permanently?  I seem to recall reading about that somewhere a while back, so they're not necessarily useless so long as you've got a player.  I don't believe there's any way to rip them without having some sort of dev kit or such, but as far as just enjoying watching what's on the discs, I think that's relatively within the realm of possibility.

No, these have never been cracked. DVDs are encrypted, I think, but they only have one layer. To make a DVD Player that was licensed by SONY, you had to integrate a specific key into the hardware. This key was eventually pulled from hardware and freely distributed. So, DVDs have been cracked for probably 15 years, or so, but no one cracked the DIVX. It is encrypted 3x times. Once by a second key specific to DIVX much likE DVDs, next by a key red by a special strip on the inner circle of the disc and last by a key you had to phone in to get.
