An ESRB rating has hinted at not only a port of a game, but a title that could end up being among the last games for that particular system. A Shakedown Hawaii Wii U rating has appeared. This comes almost a year after the Retro City Rampage sequel appeared on other consoles and the PC.

I expect if the game does get released it'll initially be an digital-only release, but could we see this game get picked up by LRG and become the last physical game for the Wii U?

It'd be cool to have a physical copy (as long as it's not done in a bullshit way like LRG and the other companies that artificially limit what is sold) but I highly doubt they will do that.

You assume only two, but then LRG will come back with something else just to have the "last Wii U" title.  And it will probably be something like Yooka-Laylee which was originally crowdfunded for the Wii U.

I'm not against more physical games by any means, but there is a difference with Axiom Verge and (if it happens) Shakedown Hawaii.  They are both on several platforms already, and they are only doing it to milk collectors.  Nothing new of course, just distasteful.

If Wii U has two non-sports, non-Just Dance games as the last two games, it has the best swan song since... Saturn?

For real. And even if axiom verge is the last one, what a damn good game to go out on!

You do realize there was more to the Axiom Verge release, right? Limited Run had signed the deal for the physical version back in 2017 with the intention of releasing later that year, but problems with the original publisher is what kept the game coming out for so long. You can read all about it here: https://www.dualshockers.com/axiom-verge-lawsuit-wii-switch/

A physical release would be dumb except to piss off all the people who bought Axiom Verge only because it was the last physical release (many of which have never opened the game and never will) - that would be highly entertaining
