  1. Wow, so they took the scorched earth approach.

I hate to say it, but I can’t hold any blame against GoCollect. They’re doing what they think is best for their brand.

But Dain. My god man, wtf. This is a total betrayal on your part. Total sellout.

So with that said, I’d like to question the merit that the “Carolina” collection holds. Dain is still alive and kicking and couldn’t give a rats ass about game collectibles anymore...so why is there a “collection” with his name on it?

To get started or finished? We could probably start it pretty soon. It will probably never be truly finished.

MobyGames is STILL adding games from the past 50 years of gaming history and are constantly coming up with new and exciting projects (I think they recently hit a milestone on iOS games). MobyGames even has over 100 games made before 1972 (release of the original Magnavox Odyssey) and their archive extends as far back as 1950!

Even further than that though, there are things that are relevant that aren't archived like electromechanical sega arcade games, early pinball, all the stuff that pre-videogame era companies were doing (Nintendo, Bandai, Taito, Coleco, Magnavox, Sega, Tecmo, Konami), hell, maybe even bagatelle counts if you really focus on arcade gaming.

  3. No database is complete without the Amstrad GX4000!

Jokes aside, I agree. Sega, Sony, Xbox, Atari, SNK, and NEC can use some love. I think it should be done one platform at a time though to prevent us from getting overwhelmed.

Maybe start with four or five platforms (eg NES / SNES / Master System / Genesis / Game Boy) and add as we go.

  4. I don’t actually think I left my opinion on this topic yet on NA or here so let me throw in my 2 cents.

I was always a secretive sealed collector. A few years ago I sold my sealed collection to a local collector who will remain nameless.

I was literally just beginning to dip my toes back in the water as soon as Wata was announced and after the $100k Mario sale I knew my “career” was over.

Im not bitter about it, but I definitely got priced out. I managed to pick up a few pieces in that short time span...and I plan on holding onto them JUST in case things get into my price again. But if things go the other way, I’m selling the few things I have and will go strictly into CIB mode.

Wata definitely effected my collecting style, for the worst. But I think ultimately they’re a force for good as long as things are on the up and up with their ethics. They aren’t 2-bit conmen, the guys running it are highly respected members of the community we all “grew up” in.

Deniz, and Kenneth are great dudes. I can say literally nothing wrong about them. The other guys they surround themselves with are also cool guys to me, sure they’re making bank right now but I can’t blame them for making money when the pickings are easy.

Heritage...for all it’s shady dealings in the past, I think ultimately still lends the hobby more legitimacy. That being said, I don’t need heritage to validate my hobby to myself. I couldn’t care less if it was just me and @Gloves buying grey NES squares. A huge middle finger to CLink though...I had to order a new credit card because of their shitty last millennium security.

GoCollect....not sure what they’re doing but for people with money they’re Reaaaaally dragging their feet. I’ve been trying for years to get a project going and I just don’t have the time or money to do it. But GoCollect? Cmon.

    Final Word:

Everything is still foggy from the meteor crashing into our hobby. When the dust settles, I think we’ll all be in a better position.

    Sealed collectors, CIB, Loose, everyone.

@ThePhleo If you (or anyone else) want to host my list directly on VGS, you are more than welcome. 🙂

It's fine where it is for now. Just give me a heads up if it's ever about to go offline.

I think if there's ever a database feature added though, it might be worth it to port it over.

  6. My "favorite game ever" constantly changes, but it changes only between a few select titles across only a few select series of games. If I aggregated it though, it'd probably be in order something like this:

    1. Super Mario Bros. 3 / World / Sunshine / Galaxy
    2. Super Smash Bros. 64 / Melee / Ultimate
    3. Legend of Zelda / A Link to the Past / Majora's Mask / Breath of the Wild
    4. Elder Scrolls III / V
    5. Final Fantasy 6 / 7 / 8 / 10
    6. Castlevania / Dracula's Curse / IV / Syphony of the Night
    7. Fallout 3 / New Vegas
    8. Contra / Super C / Contra III
    9. Mega Man 2 / 3 / 4 / X
    10. Metal Gear Solid / Sons of Liberty / Snake Eater
    11. Civilization III / V

It's a very uninspired list...but they're regarded as the best games for a reason.

Heres a list I wrote, a comprehensive guide to Famicom. It was written in 2015 though and a lot has been discovered since then, but...

    https://fcgamer.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/complete-famicom-game-list.pdf

Thanks @fcgamer for the link. I've added it to the list of lists.

Also, @austin532 I've added your NES guide to the list of lists. It's not quite a "list" but damn is it comprehensive and relevant.

  8. Final Fantasy IX is #1 As it’s The ONLY main series Final Fantasy I’ve yet to beat.

But there are soooo many RPGs that I love that I still never finished. Chrono Cross, Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, Wild ARMs 3, and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Digital Devil Saga, Earthbound, Dragon Warrior 4....I can go on.

  9. No one in my family celebrates “Halloween” per se...but we do have “masquerade” parties weeks before it.

I was a Zombie Cop this year...but I couldn’t find my full makeup set I bought so I just look like a cop that got shot. My wife was just a witch, but I didn’t have the heart to tell her she didn’t really have to try too hard (don’t hit me if you see this!)

You're severely misjudging my level of GAF about anything still there.   I turned off any email notifications from there, scrubbed stuff i wanted scrubbed, made a last post and that's all the ol' capt wrote.

Oh no, I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Ive archived my lists and a few select pictures from other members. Shame I don’t have the time to scrap for more pictures of NWC Carts but I think I have a pretty comprehensive archive for now.

I don’t think there’s anything left on NA that I can’t personally rebuild given a perfect weekend without the wife and kids, except for photos of the Brazilian NES games. but those are things I’m after so I’ll eventually build it up myself.

I’m 100% done with NA regardless. It would take an IMMENSE amount of upgrades and new features for me to consider heading back there, and even then, I can’t consider it home unless everyone else goes back too.

What I was trying to say though, is that if anyone thinks they’re actually “deleting” their own posts or PMs then they’re mistaken. GoCollect absolutely already has a copy saved in one or more hard drives somewhere, and at any time can just reference it from now until eternity regardless of whether you click delete or not.

I love Dain and all, but he royally screwed us all in terms of privacy and content control.

  11. Deleting anything off NA is pointless.

They have a backup of the database and can run a virtual NA on any computer they want. The only thing you’re deleting is your ability to ever view those messages...should they port over to the “new and improved” website.

@ThePhleo No worries, man. I am pretty protective of my copyright, but I'm open to collaborating if you reach out to me first. That being said, your design was really slick - I love the black box style you had going, and I think you should still submit that as a template to go with whatever sort of mascot or icon gets chosen (and if you want to use my design as a placeholder for now, I'm cool with that).

    -CasualCart

Again, sorry. Here is my resubmission with your mascot only as a template / placeholder along with a random pixel type logo as well.

  13. I'm a bit on the fence on this one.

To me, personally, a box has to meet two criteria.

    1. At least 4 sides, and a bottom/top
    2. Act as a structurally sound container on its own

Rule 2 is a little loose, because I can imagine large tears or fatigue causing structural integrity of the box to be compromised while still maintaining a box shape.

On rarities though, I can see being satisfied without looking at it as a placeholder (Stadium Events is easy, but even your above examples are understandable)
