  1. From a collectors point of view, it absolutely doesn’t count.

When you buy a digital game or even just DLC you do not own the game in any way. What you’re paying for is the permission to play the game, and download it onto your hardware.

I think Steam allows your children to inherit your account, but last I checked, you technically can’t even sell your account. So if you don’t have the legal right to sell your account (which holds the licenses) then you have nothing to show for it.

Think of it like paying for cable. You don’t own the content on the screen. You’re just paying to watch it.

Which is worth more--a 100% CIB game, or a CIB game missing the mail off card, but including something like this...

    🤔🤔🤔

    Something like this, clearly.

I consider the Zombie Nation registration card to be the rarest reg card in the NES library, and even at that rarity I’d say it’s a $100 item.

The reg card includes a yo-yo giveaway prize...but not a single yo-yo exists. I’d pay way more than $100 for a meldac, or Zombie Nation yo-yo.

I feel like this is rediscovered knowledge that the NA vets probably already knew, but I also think it's pretty cool. It will make confirming production orders way easier.

Maybe a couple people did, but it sure as hell wasn’t a well known thing.

Like the inner cartridge shell codes, and more similarly, the bottom flap box codes...no one I knew even gave a crap about the numbers on the top flap.

  4. Every variant of every poster, flyer, map, registration card, and other inserts for every NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color Game. . . in every region. Would really save me two decades of time that I estimate it will take me to archive them all.

That, and a CIB Stadium Events, and a NWC Gold...I’ve been chipping away at a NTSC/PAL-A/B set for a while now and NTSC-US Stadium Events is the only one that I will never be able to justify purchasing no matter how much money I have. ESPECIALLY when the two PAL versions are so cheap by comparison.

I'm fairly certain they are date codes. Two more examples to drive the point home. Blades of Steel Circle SOQ (1989-02-23) vs Konami Classic Oval SOQ version (1993-07-22).

Hollywood Squares Blue version (1990-01-06) vs Black version (1990-04-09).

I suspect all -1 revisions will hold up to the same scrutiny.

As for SMB3, the stupid Indieboxes I'm trying to sell are blocking them in at the moment. When I clear those out, I'll have a look at the dates.

This is legitimately a huge deal for me.

I believe the current way people go about “print runs” are completely wrong. “Left Bros” Mario 3 alone is proof enough that what people consider “first print” is actually first, second, and third.

Having actual date codes on all three components of a standard CIB is HUGE. Most boxes have a code on the flap...most manuals have a five digit code on the last page of content...and most cartridges have chips with print dates.

An easy way to identify if your contents are matching is great! This just made archiving fun again :)

  6. The date theory may be correct and I’m gonna have to say that’s the most solid theory so far. The manuals for most games also have a code printed on the last page of content and is usually only a single digit or two off.

My theory for the codes was that they were catalog codes. Meaning every time they went to press they would designate a number to a particular aluminum litho plate.

If these are date codes then holy crap these codes matter. If they aren’t, well then they still matter but they’re less fun.

  7. The memories.

My grandmother owned a small business right across the road from a Funcoland. The first time I ever crossed the street by myself was going to Funcoland. I remember being incredibly nervous that no one was with me, even despite my grandmother watching me the whole time.

    I had $25 and a plan.

Go eat a slice of pizza and a soda for $3 and I should have enough for a $20 game after tax.

The game I bought wasn’t important because I don’t remember which it was. It was probably for my SNES since I was 7. All I remember was being very proud of myself and my new found freedom.

    Not entirely true.

I didn't vote, but I would have voted Trump over Hillary at the time. I absolutely would have regretted my vote had I actually cast it.

There are still a very select few things I agree with him about though.

#1 is China. China absolutely is an enemy of the United States, and an enemy of the world. Having actual concentration/rape/reeducation/organ havesting camps for the Uighur muslims of western china is absolutely disgusting on its own. Also, the current news with Hong Kong and the South China Sea claim is ridiculous.

#2 is Immigration. I DISAGREE WITH HIS METHODS, but I agree that America has an overwhelming problem with illegal immigration. IMO, Immigration should be made easier, and current illegal residents should be given a path to become legal without being deported...it would be really nice to have them contribute their fair share in taxes on their wages. Also, I'm sick of hearing about so many uninsured drivers.

#3 Space Force. Why is he being bashed for creating the space force!? This is something that needs to be done. If private citizens can build space rockets then we're at the point that we need a space military. We already have long term astronauts living in the space station. The world is no longer a place of air, land, and sea....space is only 100 miles away from wherever you are.

For my Genesis CIB Contents Spreadsheet, I notice you have two links.  I imagine one is intended to link directly to the spreadsheet and that the other is supposed to link to the thread.  Right now both go to the thread.

The guides @RoyalT brought over from SA are guides I originally put together, though for purposes of updates or changes to those lists, he's the OP, as I wouldn't have edit access.

Fixed the link, and proper credit will be given back to you. RoyalT will just be listed as "VGS OP" or something to that degree after I post this comment.

  10. I think when it comes to boxes & manuals, you just HAVE to count the Majesco & players choice stuff separately. We can pretend we don’t care for first prints but no one wants those ugly green boxes and low quality printing.

Also, do we count Spanish and Canadian as part of the set...because I love me some Final Fight Guy Black Box and alt artwork Zombies are my Neighbors.

Last, had anyone ever done a “slotted” vs “smooth” cart variant guide for SNES yet?

Ty for this list. I saw you labeled both Ring King as and Karate Kid as unlikely hangtabs but those two do exist.  Im sure Bronty or some of the older folk have the proof.

To my knowledge there are only three Ring King box variants.

No REV-A with No Yellow Stripe

    No REV-A with Yellow Stripe

    REV-A with Yellow Stripe

I'll look into Karate Kid a little more, but I'm almost positive that a 5-screw cartridge doesn't exist, let alone a hangtab box.
