  1. I'm with you. Especially replaying Yoshi's Island this week. It bugs me that this game is called SMW2, because... that almost dooms it. As the first game in the Yoshi's Island series, it's a really good and impressive game. As the sequel to SMW, it's a letdown.
  2. I'm excited watching you get so close to finishing that NP set. And glad you scored a #151 in better condition than the one I had. I know you collect the NP strategy guides too. As a further bit of ephemera, let me know if you have any interest in the collected Super Mario Adventure NP comics before I send to it to the bay:
  3. ooh, shmups are a good call. 1CC'ing Deathsmiles was a pretty huge deal for me, cuz I love that game. Also, reminded me, beating Spelunky for the first time was nail-biting.
  4. I honestly rank them in the order of their release. SML is super basic, sure. But it was weird, and mind-blowing to have a full fledged portable Mario game in '89, so it meant a lot to me. I've played through it so many times. I think SML2 is impressive, no doubt. But I don't actually enjoy it QUITE as much as the original. SML3 is fine. But I think of it more as WL1 and that series definitely got better later.
  5. I guess I misunderstood your point. I thought you were saying FF6 wouldn't be on a best SNES list because it wasn't released on SNES (because it was re-titled FF3).
  6. a few thoughts, as a simple analog, yeah - I've always considered the Famicom to be "Japan's version of the NES" and the NES to be "American's version of the Famicom." I'm sort of in the camp that thinks of it like Mega Drive vs Genesis. I consider the FDS to be its own thing - much like the Sega CD or 32x or N64DD. We absolutely did get Final Fantasy VI in the US, it just had a different title. Nobody would say we didn't get Seiken Densetsu in the US just because it was called Final Fantasy Adventure. Nobody would say we didn't get Mother 2 because it was called Earthbound. And (an endless list of other examples).
  7. I'm REALLY hoping it gets a physical edition on Switch like Diablo III did. Either way, I'll be playing it with my wife. D3 was one of the rare games that hooked her years back.
  8. pre-ordered mine as soon as it was available. I had avoided the digital version knowing that a physical kinda HAD to happen.
  9. woah, funny enough I STARTED Astral Chain for the first time last night. It was one of those games that looked fairly cool to me (I like cyberpunk settings), but was always on my "maybe someday" list, and randomly grabbed it used last week. I only had time to do the opening mission so far, so I don't really have an opinion on it yet, but it LOOKS cool.
  10. I felt so triumphant when I finally cleared Slay The Spire. It was a hard fought victory, but I loved every moment. I haven't played Darkest Dungeon - how does it compare?
  11. yeah after reading some reviews, it's an easy pass for me.
  12. when I needed a second one, I was a little too worried about a 3rd party due to brick-scare. So I ended up just buying a refurb directly from Nintendo. I think it was ~$50 after shipping. (Note, this did not include the AC adapter or HDMI cable, but I had extras of both). Another option MAY BE the Genki mini dock thingy that I've heard good things about?
  13. this is where I'm at. I found a DS copy at a yard sale last year and was excited to finally give it a go. But all the stupid stuff you had to do to just..... play another race? Ugh. Not what I wanted out of a kart racer at all. Played an hour or so and sold it.
  14. bump. I'm slowly moving things to ebay after first offering up here. Rather give the VGS gang first crack at anything. Accordingly, Divinity Original Sin 2 and Kentucky Route Zero are up for offer for now.
  15. what are the last ones you're missing? I still have some NP's to get rid of.
  16. I still haven't gotten around to setting up a new hobby money account. A quick google search of free online checking found me (A) Capital One 360, and (B) Chime... should either of these work fine w/ Ebay/Paypal?
  17. this thread reminded me to fire up Splatoon 2 last night again, so there's that.
  18. I hear you. And the "speed golf" thing looks dumb to me. As a side note, I've been eyeballing PGA 2K21 on Switch. I'm almost leaning toward picking that up and putting this one off unless there's some stellar reviews post release.
  19. agree on Mario Golf. My anticipation for it has gone way down. I'd honestly rather a play a more sim like golf game at this point. Metroid Dread looks really interesting to me, though. I'm hoping Tanooki's wrong about the parry moves from Samus Returns, however. I'm hoping. My other big winner from the Direct was the Advance Wars 1 + 2 remake. That's super exciting to me. Like... maybe it'll even launch a new sequel? I mean, Fire Emblem finally caught on, so stranger things could happen. Also, I'm keeping my eye on the Guardians Of The Galaxy game. And THPS 1 & 2 is an insta-buy for me.
  20. agree on all points. And man, I love digging into the numbers, so thank you for that. I definitely agree on the last point. I'd wager that, sure, a bunch of people bought Prime because they were already Metroid fans. But probably a bunch more bought it because it was a new FPS series on Gamecube. And at this point it feels like Metroid and Metroid Prime really are their own series.
  21. happy E3, I lowered prices.
  22. my only personal disagreement w/ the original post as the I loved Fusion and Zero Mission. But yeah. I'll say this, Dread was probably the most exciting thing for me in that whole E3 Direct. Oddly, I bounced off Samus Returns pretty fast, even though I was a huge fan of Metroid II. But man, I don't even know. Dread looks like the Metroid game I wanted but didn't know I wanted. I mean, I get why people want Prime 4, but I'm way more pumped about Dread.
  23. added prices, but flexible on offers and trades.
  24. I'm a really big fan of turn based strategy games, so I enjoyed Mario + Rabbids a lot despite knowing nothing about Rabbids. It's a well crafted game for sure, though certainly not as deep as something like Fire Emblem. That said, I'm sure I'll check out the sequel.
