  1. I'm 4-5 hrs into Bravely II right now, and... it's pretty good. I feel like I remember enjoying Bravely Second more, though. The bigger thing is that I feel like I can't help but compare this to Octopath Traveler, which while it's not part of the same series, the mechanics/battle system/job system/etc were all the same, so Octopath FELT like a Bravely sequel. And it was really really good. And this feels just pretty good. I'll probably give it a little more time to try to win me over, though. That said, my daughter already chewed up one of the 4 coasters, haha. Also the "placemat" is more like a "poster."
  2. I went 7/10, as I'm basing it on how I feel about the game in 2021. When I was in junior high and me and my friends installed the shareware copy on the computer lab's PC's, it was a 10/10 game. So I can't really undersell its importance, at least to me. But obviously Doom, Quake and everything else has eclipsed it as a FPS experience over the years. That said, it is fun to go back to once in a while, and I still think that the core gameplay is solid for the time/tech.
  3. Well you take the first letter of each name, assign it a number, add 'em all up, and shove it up your butt! Stanley
  4. Cave Story is good, but definitely overrated. I played it back in 2010 or so, and I definitely thought it was a GOOD game. But in hindsight, I think more than anything I was marveling at how well made it was by a sole developer. It impressed me at the time, for sure. But as far as being a FUN game, it's not something I really have any desire to go back and replay, unlike Shovel Knight.
  5. I went 8/10. Having played it and loved it in 2014, I actually re-beat the base game over the holidays so it's still pretty fresh in my mind. To my delight, it still holds up really well. *Something* couldn't quite get me to bump it up to a 9, though. And I can't put my finger on it. MAYBE it's just that in 2014 it felt really fresh, but in 2021 it feels like we're oversaturated with retro-throwback indies. I don't know. Maybe it's even unfair for me to lower it a point based on my feeling that the sub-genre has exploded, so it sort of makes the game feel a little less special to me now. But whatever, it still feels like an 8/10 to me, which is "great" per the poll. Having said that, I think that while the expansions were welcome (I mean, not a lot indie developers give you SO MUCH content for so many years), they tended to have diminishing returns. None of them felt quite as fun to me as the original game. And by the time we got to King Of Cards I was burned out. I actually solidly disliked that one, which is weird given my love of video game TCG's. I do think that Shovel Knight (the character) is a rockstar, though. I like that he appears in other games, and his Amiibo is AWESOME.
  6. my Switch is far and away my most played console over the last 3 years, and I cannot remember it ever crashing once. So that does seem abnormal. And for the record, I generally do keep whatever game I'm playing suspended while the system is in sleep mode.
  7. I don't even know what the Slade song is, but without hearing it, I'm sure it's better than "Come On Eileen."
  8. I've been playing that new eShop version of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. It's certainly rough around the edges, but still surprisingly compelling. Love me some Fire Emblem.
  9. Oh, I'm aware that the titles are different. But for whatever reason I had always thought it was a remake/port, just with a different title. I'm not sure why I thought that, though. Weird. You learn something new everyday!
  10. it is? I thought it was a port of the PS1 game?
  11. the red shell really makes me wish that this variant launched with the announcement of Virtual Boy games on the Switch Online app.
  12. I finally begrudgingly got into it myself a couple of years ago when I was literally gifted a console. I wouldn't say I had any nostalgia for it - the only games I played when it was current was Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Goldeneye. And the only one I really liked at the time was Mario Kart. Having said that, I have actually gone from "I hate the N64, it's a terrible console," to "y'know what? It was actually pretty impressive, and the good games are really good." SO yeah. I WOULD recommend getting a 3rd party controller, though. I bought one of those Hyperkin Admirals, which is wireless and has a form factor closer to your standard Pro controller, and that helps.
  13. it looks similar to the inside of the backpack in that supply catalog. If I get a chance over the weekend, I'll see which supply catalogs I have and look thru them. I'm pretty sure I have at least one from the N64 era, so we'll see.
  14. It LOOKS like it would fit a N64 console. Maybe? But yeah, def looks like swag from the NP Supply Catalogs. I have a few around.
  15. I'd also recommend the book Racing The Beam, as there's a full chapter on the development of Yar's Revenge that's really interesting stuff.
  16. Agreed. I've met multiple people who are not "gamers," but picked up a Switch and Animal Crossing and play it all the time.
  17. I went 6/10. I wasn't a fan of it back in the day, outside of Mario Kart 64 really. Over the past couple of years I've started to appreciate it more, and there' some impressive stuff like the Tony Hawk ports or Perfect Dark. But overall, it's probably my least favorite Nintendo console. Which, 6/10 certainly isn't bad.
  18. well, technically it comes bundled with all of these games https://www.nintendo.com/en_CA/games/game-guide/#filter/:q=&dFR[priceRange][0]=Free to start
  19. I said 6/10, but it's more like a 6.5.... I don't actually think it's a great game. BUT, it's a game that my wife and I still play to this day. Sometimes a beer and a few rounds of Wii bowling can really take the edge of a day off.
  20. where do you see that - I must be missing something. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pre-order anyway, but I'll take whatever free crap I can get.
