  1. I believe I beat College Football USA 97 I selected 20 minute games, 1 game season, beat that team, then beat Tennessee in the Bowl Match. Is that good enough? I don't know anything about football games and only the basics of football, so it seemed as incomprehensible as any other football game. All I did was press X over and over on every offensive play and it would pass to some guy at least one of the 4 downs, usually, and I could eventually get a TD and some 2 point conversions. I couldn't figure out how to punt or kick so all I did was pass. On defense, I figured out that if you just didn't touch any buttons until well into the play, the CPU would often try to run or pass short and I could clobber him. The CPU turned over the ball to me a bunch just by doing that. He did get some 80 yard TDs, but not enough to beat me. So, it seemed like an okay football game to me, but what do I know.
  2. Well, I got a lot of recommendations, so thank you all. Maybe OpenShot is a reasonable compromise between pro (DaVinci0) and MS default software? I'll see what I can do with it
  3. Sour cherry and watermelon are awesome Pina Colada, cinnamon, the popcorns, and the darker beverage flavors overpower everything else
  4. Does anyone do this as a hobby or for work here? I'd like to put together a few old VHS clips for my parents and add some basic text, but I don't have any software or really know what I'm doing. Is there any decent freeware for Windows? Again, just looking to do really basic stuff.
  5. Congrats to Little Mac! Hope he went on to have a successful career!
  6. Now that I've had some time to ruminate on Lord of the Rings, I have to say, it wasn't that bad? I used a walkthrough, which helped immensely. The biggest potential problem with the game is missing something early on and getting all the way to the gates of Moria and having to backtrack. Apparently there are glitches with the password system, but I never had to reset. Frodo died a few times early on, but you keep your level and items when you respawn. All the other hobbits died quick, ignominious deaths right at the beginning, but once I had Aragorn, I never was in danger of having him and Gimli die. I even beat the Balrog on the first try, although only Frodo and Aragorn survived. The mines of Moria are indeed a mess, but they are partitioned because of the locked doors, so it's actually not that bad to wander about and keep progressing. The Barrows are the place where it would have been a lot harder without a guide. The gates of Moria did open without me having to do the gem thing that the walkthrough described. I don't know if it glitched out or I just misunderstood what you have to do. Anyway, it's definitely beatable, but a blind playthrough would require careful mapping and exploration of all those caves in each section.
  7. I found an uncirculated 1995 DDO Lincoln cent back in 95 in my change and a couple of other doubled die cents and Jefferson nickles back when I was collecting and searching all my change and even getting rolls from the bank (can you even do that anymore?) Now my eyes are so bad I can barely see the dates on most coins. I got a couple of cuds and minor die cracks too, but nothing as cool as yours. I used to get rolls of half dollars from banks and would get a surprising number of silver halves, especially the 40% 1965-69 ones. This was back in the 80s and 90s, though.
  8. Welcome to the Brandish cult! I want to replay this soon and take on the 2nd one at some point too
  9. J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings is done. I think this is one of the best SNES games ever. The story line, the UI, the fighting mechanism, and the clear, coherent gameplay make this one of the best games of all time for me.
  10. I beat Ogre Battle tonight. My strategy was absolutely despicable and I think any Ogre Battle fan would have been shocked at what I did. Regardless, I powered through the last 6 stages today by just ram-assing straight for the enemy base and burning heals and revives and the 500 jokers I bought like an asshole. I got rewarded with what looks to be the laziest and worst ending: The Tower Ending. Reputation nonexistent and charisma < 30. I couldn't even get the cool Devil ending since I never got anyone to agree to join me after the first 2 or 3 setpieces... Not even the Devil would join my team.
  11. Still plugging away at Ogre Battle. I still have no idea what I'm doing other than going to maps and killing everything there. I believe I have 0% reputation but whatever. Hopefully i won't be screwed at some point later in the game
  12. Yeah, that is way more documentation than most people provide for "normal" losses. If you have an agent, I'd submit an updated list to them periodically to leave a trail. Not a bad idea to do this for your other high value stuff like maple syrup stills and curling stones, or whatever other crazy stuff you all collect up there. There's still the issue with establishing a proper actual cash value, or even replacement cost for the rarest games. Just send em over to the Wata folks and rake in the millions
  13. Saw this just now, but as a Personal Property (Homeowners / Renters / Condos / Landlords) pricing actuary, the first sentence is not correct, but the reality is complicated, of course. The contents in your home in a standard ISO policy are covered under coverage C, which is a certain percentage of your coverage A (basically your home value) coverage amount. Video game stuff is covered under Cov C in a standard ISO policy. You need to verify this since not all policies are standard, of course. However, coverage C pays the actual cash value of items unless you have a specific replacement cost endorsement. This is issue #1 since your idea of the actual cash value for video game stuff will be different than the insurance company's. Proving the extent of your video game loss (i.e proof of the ownership of high value items you lost) is issue #2. The company isn't trying to deny your claim or underpay just because it is doing its due diligence. Personal insurance is one of the most highly regulated industries in the US, and an insurer can't just not pay a claim because it doesn't feel like it. So before worrying about a special policy, make sure you have good documentation of the existence of your major high value games in case of a fire or water loss. If you have an insurance agent, it's a good idea to give him documentation too. And of course check that video games are covered as Cov C contents in your actual policy. Now, some specific categories of items have specific sublimits within the coverage C policy - cash, jewelry, firearms, fine art, etc. Your can specifically schedule these items for additional premium. For example, a lost Rolex would only be covered up to the sublimit of $1,500 for jewelry, gross of the policy deductible, but you can schedule a higher agreed value limit for the Rolex for a certain premium amount. Video game cartridges doesn't have any sublimit in a normal ISO policy and you can't schedule individual games in a normal Homeowners policy. Video game consoles may be considered electronic equipment for the electronic equipment sublimit, but I'd have to ask an underwriter about that. This is where a endorsement (rider) to a normal policy, or a completely separate specialized collectible policy (i.e. a blanket or partially scheduled Personal Items Floater policy) comes in. Whether it's worth it is a factor of the overall value of your collection and your individual risk appetite. Your second paragraph makes sense, but that's loss avoidance, not loss mitigation.
  14. I am making slow progress in Ogre Battle. i can't say i'm doing it with any finesse or deep knowledge of the game, but I have beaten 4 maps so far.
  15. There's a great MadTV skit about George Lucas doing a Jane Pauley interview and this picture really reminds me of this. If you haven't seen it, it's hilarious.
  16. I almost never read any modern fiction since it's mostly garbage, but Cormac McCarthy is finally publishing what will likely be his last 2 novels later this year. Can't wait to get them.
  17. @the_wizard_666 That's how I handled Bases Loaded 1 last year - I did 4-6 games a day starting on Jan 1 and paced it over 2-3 weeks. You can imagine my surprise when that guy popped in on around Jan 10 last year and said he finished BL 1-4, Championship Pool, and like 10 other super hard or long games already.
  18. I'm going to try Ogre Battle next. New one for me. See you all in a month or two!
  19. Liberty or Death is done, as the British (aka the challenging scenario) This is one of the best Koei games to try out. Just play as the American side and enjoy
  20. Everything except fried venison. That sounds pretty nasty. I would blow out my GI system gorging myself on the rest, though
  21. Don't you get yelled at for not doing quarterly payments? I send a check in every quarter to cover my dividend income and usually end up owing less than a grand. Or did you get a nice windfall from a security sale in 4Q?
  22. Yeah just bail out and you can retake it at whatever higher level you get it back at (if I remember correctly) If you are curious about the ping ponging way to level up quickly, a couple of maniacs posted speedruns to youtube.
  23. Checking in and noticed Shingen is in progress. It can be beaten within 5 hours or so by leveling up quickly in the beginning. It is probably more rewarding to grind it out, but the quicker option is there.
