  1. I'm 28/30 on the original "Black Box Thirty" (cartridge only)...only missing Stack Up and DK Jr Math...I don't think I got any of the rare screw variations though
  2. Necrobump? Geez that's a word that sounds like something involving taking a dump or something
  3. We just scored a well timed upset against Loserville yesterday! Nice momentum for us going into the 2020 calendar year!
  4. I'm guessing MLB 2020 will be nothing like Super Baseball 2020...would you believe we're already about to be in the real year 2020?
  5. If it's GC ready it should have on one side of the Wii a black panel with four GC controller ports and the two memory card slots, you can't miss it.
  6. You should consider doing the Wii Homebrew thing. It's Nintendon't program that allows it to function as a GameCube Everdrive (you did the a GC ready Wii, right???) is truly a God send. Now if only doing that for PS1 was that easy...
  7. And what pretell is wrong with collector's editions? As Gomer Pyle would say in that poker game episode, golly Dr Mario, with all those different variations of a game, don't you want the best?
  8. While I'm glad to hear you got the refund I'm saddened that such a thing was even necessary. I mean correct me if I'm wrong but I imagine those Turbo Duo CIBs (or probably most any retro console in true CIB condition) are really hard to come by. I know exactly how that feels; for example you see on Ebay and such billions of those North Carolina Collegiate Collection sets/wax boxes (remember when Shop-At-Home would loudly shout JORDAN COLLEGE ROOKIES!!!! at these cards that were released in 1989, several years after Jordan played in college?) but OTOH, it took me YEARS to find even ONE 1989 and much later 1988 Kentucky Collegiate Collection set. So anytime I find a card set like that I especially hope and pray it arrives safely because who knows if/when you'll ever get another chance?
  9. He wasn't buying it for the console inside! If he just wanted the console he would've gotten just the console! He bought this new (or at least CIB) to have as a collector's item (since of course it's far more difficult to get it new or CIB), at least that's what I'm presuming.
  10. I've had at least two cases back in the day where I order a set of baseball cards and all they do is send the set box wrapped in brown paper and many others who didn't use enough packing protection (peanuts/bubble wrap) so the cards ended up ruined. And the worst part was that this was back in the days (early/mid 2000s) when Ebay sellers would try to pull that whole "if you don't pay extra for insurance and the item arrives ruined/damaged/whatever, sorry". I mean seriously, what happened to the OP is just pure carelessness and laziness and the seller should know better! Yes it's true you can get a refund but if my experience is any indication, the OP had his heart set on that particular console and who knows how long it'll be before another one like it even shows up again?
  11. I guess not even the greatest singers/groups can be for everyone. For example, I like most anything retro pop/country or whatever but this one, *shudders*
  12. For those of you here who think you're a tough macho alpha male or something, I want you to take a listen to this reunion story and see if you don't shed a tear or say awww or feel all warm fuzzies inside. Just goes to show there is few things in this world more beautiful and more sacred and more special than the bond between a man and his kitty cat.
  13. Maybe nowadays but I'm surprised it happened that long ago. Here's some more infamous moments in fake music history!
  14. My wife actually likes the Monkees! I just love giving her a hard time about it; hee hee So if they didn't write their own songs or play their own instruments, would that count as fake music?
  15. I'm pretty sure most kids know that the Santa at the mall is not the Santa and is one of Santa's helpers. I especially call shenanigans on that scene in the 1994 Miracle on 34th Street where that mean guy tries to intentionally provoke Santa at Cole's in front of all the kids calling him a "big fat fake"
  16. Yeah; it seems like compared to the decades of the 20th century it kinda seems like there's not nearly as much distinction/difference with 2000s vs 2010s decade, if you get what I mean.
  17. I don't know about the rest of you but I always find it quite exciting when a new decade is coming, for obvious reasons. Of course the dawn of the millennium was even more awesome still but now even that time seems so primitive in many ways even though "the year 2000" was often used as a synonym for the future! And it's so hard to believe that we're already seeing people born 2000 or later coming of legal age!! Granted I don't think we're gonna see a real life version of Super Baseball 2020 or the second to last level of Turtles in Time that takes place in 2020 looking anything like in the game but I digress. So while under normal circumstances it'd be just a regular ol' New Years Resolution thread, I think this is very much an above and beyond kind of thing that only comes once every ten years. But as much as I'm wondering what kinds of neat things we may see in the 2020s in terms of tech and gaming and such (especially retro gaming), it's also a double edge sword for me. See is just so happens I was born on a zero year (1980) so the new decade means I turn an age that ends in 0...and this time it's one of the biggest ones of all and most dreaded...40 I mean turning 30 in 2010 was plenty bad enough but I can't be nearing the f-word already...it just feels way too soon, it just doesn't seem that long ago I graduated HS, college, got married, got our first kitty (1999/2003/2005/2010 respectively). I mean I've been here and at NA for several years and I don't think I've really change all that much, have I? My wife claims I have matured somewhat over the years but on that I definitely am not so sure! So what's on my wishlist for what I hope to achieve in this new decade? Well here's a few things... 1. You guys know I like reading those encyclopedia yearbooks? Well so far I've done the World Book ones from 1961-87 and the Britannica ones (those are bigger and take longer) from 1961-75 so for the new decade I'll be starting the big bicentennial year (1976) for the Brittanica Books of the Year...say for that matter we'll be having the United States United States Semiquincentennial or 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026! Sure will be interesting to see what that kind of celebration will be like compared to 1976 and what kinds of neat commemorative coins and such we'll see! Of course I sure hope sometime soon I might get some good quality 1940s/1950s Brittanica yearbooks! Imagine reading about WWII as it was progressing and a current ongoing event at the time! 2. I've also been working on reading my local newspaper archive at newspapers.com I chose to start with 1990 (I'm on around mid-May at the moment) because that was the year I became ten years old, moved to a new town I would stay at for the 90s until I went to UK and we did have some big things going on in our local area at the time as well. For privacy reasons I'm not going to say which paper. It's a local paper from KY, that's all you get to know! 3. As far as video game stuff goes, I hope to pick up the Krizz version of the Sega CD Everdrive...that will be so exciting to be able to play Sega CD stuff as easily as you can Genesis/Master System games, and with apologies to the AVGN there are a few things on the Sega CD I do think are kinda interesting, like the Compton's Encyclopedia as their version of Wheel of Fortune (because the wheel is done just like on the actual game show, something we wouldn't see again until the N64 version) just to name a couple. I also hope at some point to get a really nice PS1 sort of Everdrive that truly works as perfectly as the cartridge ones, doesn't cost a small fortune, and actually can use the real memory cards just like Nintendon't (GC "Everdrive" for the Wii) can. I had always been mostly a Nintendo gamer though so I really should try harder to give the Genesis/Master System/PS1 some more love. After all, didn't those who grow up in the mid-to-late 90s or so feel just as nostalgic for the PS1 as I do about the NES/SNES? 4. I think I'd like to take another and better crack at learning Japanese as well. I just wish I had a better memory/recall because for whatever reason I just can't get that Hiragana/Katakana down cold like I should...and that's their version of their ABCs right? And I'd think it shouldn't be much different than back in 2nd grade when we learned our times tables right? 5. I really wish I could get into Pokemon more...so far I've finished "Level 4" (out of eight Gym Bosses) for Red/Blue (G1)...maybe it'd help if I also did up to Level 4 of the GBA remakes and then go back to the Super Game Boy originals and do Levels 5-8? Maybe it'd help make a little better sense of how the stuff in G1 works? I mean this is a major part of video gaming history and I kinda owe it to myself to experience at least the first couple gens or so right? 6. My other main hobby is baseball/football/basketball/non-sports trading cards...and I hope to be able to do the 1971-1972 sets at least (PSA 7's for the HOFers/checklists and raw NRMT or better in binder/pages for the rest). I currently have most of the key cards for 1973 but still need the remainder in raw NRMT or better in binder/pages...it's just tricky to find the right quality on Ebay So that's just a few things I hope to achieve over the course of the 2020s...what about the rest of you? And besides the weight loss/diet/exercise cliches
  18. I don't see how kids nowadays couldn't find out about Santa in this modern day and age of most everyone carrying around PErsonal Terminals (PETs), eh I mean smartphones and can just look up things like that whenever they want. I personally found out about the whole truth of Santa in probably the saddest way possible. I had been hearing about all these homeless/poor kids who get little to nothing for Christmas and honestly questioned why would that be a problem, as I would think Santa would especially take care of those kids. Well, I guess you know there this is going...
  19. Oh you can find Bugs in many games! Would you believe Bugs has his 80th(!!!) birthday in the coming new year?
  20. Oh I love the Beetles! My favorite song is Letter B!
  21. Luckily some of the fakes are easy to spot; in order from most obvious on down: 1. The label looks nothing like the real one 2. The "Nintondo" logo is spelled wrong (on either side) 3. The ESRB rating looks wrong (most often seen in fake GBA Pokemons) 3. For GBA games (seemingly the most faked) not having a clear white" "(C)2001 Nintendo right above the contacts (I bet that's among the hardest parts to get right when making a fake) 4. Any kind of wires in the cartridge (real cartridges never have them...as least as far as I know) 5. The label's letters are blurry when it should look crisp and clean Of course the most dangerous kind of counterfeits of any kind are the ones that are so well made it's really hard to tell any difference.
  22. My retro gaming monitor (20" Emerson CRT) only takes S-video/composite though.
  23. Then you later had not one but two later versions of the Wii that were worse versions of their predecessors. I mean whatever happened to "new and improved"?
  24. In the commercial when they say "here's Zelda too!" it could a little later on (I think they switched to the sequels at some point in the cereal's run) mean "here's Zelda 2!" And the release of Zelda 2 was indeed very good news!
  25. I'm more the holding/snuggling kind myself; did you guys know I can hold/cradle my kitty like a baby? But in a very rugged, manly sort of way, of course.
