  1. I used this in a job interview once when asked "If you could be any animal, what would you be?" ... they said I broke the question. I got the job though. But, yeah, labels kinda suck in general because people make assumptions based on them. Which just like in politics, religion, or any hobby, I'd rather talk about individual issues than try to paint with a broad, divisive brush.
  2. I thought the balloon world was fun, and I liked going back to collect everything - or are you referring to the final stages in the game post-credits? Yeah, that felt a bit shallow to me. As for button kung-fu, I haven't felt that at all with Dread. Controls felt 100% intuitive, I love the movement, zipping around and jumping and shooting! I beat the game last night, the final boss was really fun, though I was hoping for just a little bit more. Still haven't completely wrapped my head around the story. My in-game clock said I beat the game in 7h58m, just under 8 hours, but I felt like I played for more like 20. Maybe the pause/map screen don't count? I still need to go back and collect all the items I missed. I'm not really interested in the special edition but I'd like to get the amiibo. Unfortunately they're sold out all around me and going for 3x retail on Amazon so if anyone hears about a restock, let me know.
  3. No no, you're doing it wrong. Ingredients and instructions?? We need to know about how much your kids LOVE this white bread recipe, and how it's great party food for the hubster's big game - or as just an everyday snack! The majority of the page should be ads - at least one autoplaying with the audio default on - and visitors should have to scroll down about 15 or 20 times before seeing the ingredients list.
  4. I've been loving this game! The music is great, the controls are superb, and so far the general game design is excellent. I'm maybe 10 hours in. So far it feels a lot more linear than Super Metroid, which can be both good and bad... I like the freedom to sequence break to some extent for replayability, but I've felt gently guided in the right direction by the environment. I'm not a Metroid lore buff but I'm aware of the overall storyline, and I'm really liking how this one is tying in with the other Metroid games I've played. Two things have come to mind when playing this game: I'm just happy that we get another 2D Metroid on console. Nothing wrong with 3D games, but I've generally had the feeling over the last decade or so that many IPs have shied away from going back to a 2D platformer style for fear of being considered too simple. Now we just need the same treatment for Castlevania. Reiterating, but this game just feels amazing. There's no delay when shooting, so I can mash like a madman. Control in the air is good and weapons feel intuitive. Avoiding projectiles and firing back at enemies while airborne feels natural. I can't wait to see speedruns of this game.
  5. I love oldschool RPGs, but I don't have many of them. Most of my spending is fueled by nostalgia and I'm not nostalgic for big box PC games since I didn't really grow up with them. I played a few, but I don't remember seeing them in the store as a kid so that nostalgic itch is scratched more by playing them on original hardware than actually owning the game. I'd love to get copies of TES Arena and Daggerfall someday. A few months ago I looked into the infamous Big Rigs, but I couldn't find any sold listings, just a few posted on ebay for thousands. I was considering picking it up for a few bucks as a laugh, but I guess that's not happening.
  6. Sounds like @Megazap is talking about Claymates. Space Station Clayvius is one of the last levels. In general it's done by loading up an emulator and narrowing down values in memory. For example, you could record a second of gameplay where you pick up a 1-up and then ask the emulator to show you memory addresses that went up by 1. You might get multiple, then have to manually watch those values to narrow it down from there. But once you know what memory address in RAM holds that value, you can find where it's set in the ROM's code and change the initial value, or change the game logic to make every 1-up be a 5-up, or something like that. It's actually kind of a fun little puzzle to solve and it's fun to help people. It's been a long time since I've done it, but I remember being in chat with @Hybrid when he got his test copy of The Incident that had an incorrect ROM that wouldn't save, and we ended up coming up with a code to re-enable saving. It was so much fun to figure that out, lol.
  7. I saw that too, got excited, then realized it was only a few episodes
  8. Just wondering if anyone knows if either of these shows' complete series were ever released on DVD (or anything physical)? Most game shows were kind of lost to time so I doubt it, but curious if there's anything out there. I found these but they look super sketchy, I assume they're just pieced together from Youtube: https://collectorsheaven.info/products/video-power-in-blu-ray™ https://www.backtothe80sdvds.com/product_info.php?products_id=50
  9. Every copy of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES) I've seen has had a trashed label. Are the Wurm issues related to the end label peeling up? Because that's how mine is. It's otherwise nice and glossy. Pro Sport Hockey was the same way.
  10. Really hoping this floor situation gets better. Lesson learned, leave mastic alone, it's NOT worth the trouble removing. I used some oil based stuff to remove it. It only partially worked and left me with a massive sticky oily mess. I cleaned the floor once with a degreaser but I can still smell it down there. I bought two other degreasers and a wire broom to try to clean it some more, but my plan is to dry it out as much as possible and just seal it with a paint or primer. The only product I can find that advertises it works in this situation costs $180 a gallon, so let's hope it works..
  11. I was born in 1991. It's all fuzzy and I don't know the exact order, but here's my best guess: Game Boy Pocket (red), hand-me-down? No idea how I got it or where it went. Uncle gave me his old NES, I nearly cried on the ride home, to this day the sight of random NES carts in an old cardboard box makes me happy in a weird, visceral way. SNES for Christmas in 97 or 98, I think. Came with SMW and All Stars on separate carts. Played the hell out of them both. I still have my original All Stars cart, not sure about the others. Game Boy Color (atomic purple), I remember picking it out, along with a handful of games at Wal-Mart. I still have it and it's one of my most cherished gaming items.
  12. I watched a few unboxings on YouTube and they had the end label pointing toward the opening, not the spine. But it's very possible they were packed by hand before being sealed, so it might be either way. I believe NES games were that way with regards to the direction the dust cover was put on, but I haven't opened enough NES games to say for sure.
  13. I really think nothing did this better than SMB1, I don't know how I'm not sick of 1-1 yet, but I can still play it and have fun. But to your point about completing things and ratings... I kind of agree, but I went in the other direction. Guitar Hero 3 rates you on a scale of 3-5 stars for a song but they're all gold if you get 100%. I had 69/70 songs done in 2011, but it took me until 2019 to get the last one. You bet it was in the back of my mind all those years. Runescape... well, I'm not even going to get into that, but it's a typical grindy MMO so it's that concept but on crack. I like completing stuff, but I'm totally a rat in a cage when I get sucked in. Games like that are a perfect example - do I really ENJOY clicking on a tree to cut it down, 100,000 times? The action, no, but it's satisfying to see that number go up
  14. I definitely see where you're coming from on all of those points. I played it as a kid and really enjoyed it just for what it was. The art, music, and story were great and it struck me as one of the most polished games on the SNES. But playing it as an adult, I'm in more of a completionist mindset than when I was a kid. Now, I'll replay a level over and over until I get 100/100, and end up burning myself out. But when I first played it, I thought it was cool to have a reason to play some of the levels again.
  15. 10 years from now: "Super Mario? I love it. I'm a fan of all of Chris Pratt's stuff. I heard they made a game for it too?"
  16. Nice! I'm honestly considering segregating my sports games from the others, cause you end up with the middle of your shelf full of white spines for Nascar, NBA, NCAA, NFL, NHL, Madden, etc. At least for PS2, maybe for Xbox it's less of a problem, lol. Here's my shelf for Xbox, still a long way to go:
  17. My Halloween tradition is to beat Castlevania on NES. I might play through Simon's Quest too, it's been a while since I played that. I also recently picked up a copy of Kid Dracula on Famicom, so I'm definitely playing that this year.
  18. There are two points I was trying to make that I think still separate the two: I think forcing the player to do a 2nd loop of the same content in order to win the game is lazy. Dark Souls lets you carry over stats and items that make the early game easier but the end game harder. It's fun to quickly plow through the early part of the game, one-hitting enemies, etc.
  19. Maybe I'm missing it, but I can't figure out how to create an activity stream for new topics. If I switch "Content Types" to "Topics", I still see new comments on old topics at the top. I expected to see a list of topics sorted by when they were created.
  20. Over halfway! I feel so far away at ~350. I had 100 or so and got ~250 more when my local game store had a $1 deal. Got a bunch of random fillers out of the way, lots of racing and sports games. Someday I want to buy new jewel cases for them all since probably 70% of them are cracked or scratched up.
  21. Spyro. I liked the first one as a kid, charging, flaming, and gliding around was fun. But then they introduce those speedway levels and it felt like an unnecessary distraction. Then Spyro 2 and 3 came along with new characters, skateboarding, hockey, FPS levels, shooter levels, platformer levels, plus a drawn-out story and more hand-holding. Like, just let me play the game! Reminds me of this video:
  22. It's a free exchange, but I see things starting with the person offering the service. You're free to set and advertise your price, they're free to attempt to negotiate, you're free to accept or reject based on that. It can't hurt, I guess? If that's what most clients want to see, then you may want to provide it, even if it's not all-encompassing. Obviously, no. For one thing, you could just lie on your resume. But you could also be a successful/established person and also be a creep.
  23. Well we've had about two straight days of rain on the east coast. No water on the basement floor, but now that I have the walls peeled back I can see one of the cinder blocks is saturated near the floor. I've heard mixed things about Drylok but I plan to give the walls a coat (at least in that corner) and cross my fingers. My dehumidifier said it was 73% humid before turning it on this morning. I wonder if most of that is coming through the floor? We also want to get a few rain barrels since a few of our downspouts are going into mystery pipes in the ground that appear to end somewhere under the front yard.
