  1. I've been eying that type of Billy setup with the corner shelf since '08 or so. Not for games, but for books. Neat to see someone actually do it.
  2. I didn't realize that the first entry was for the GBA. One more to put on the list!
  3. I saw some tweets on twitter, but haven't had time to follow it up. XMAS '19 is out too!
  4. Yeah, that's pretty typical. I haven't seen one sell for less than that since 2015, but I also don't think a lot of people are going to want to let it go for less; it's easier just to hang onto it. If a couple hit public auction we'd have a better gauge, but they rarely do.
  5. Prices have come way down from what they were in say 2015. There are still folks that think they're worth more (or folks who want to sell them for more), but everything except '08 can be had for a somewhat reasonable price. The last '09 I saw sell publicly went for like $350. I want to say the last 2010 was $150 or so? I haven't been keeping track too much, but if you're not buying this time of year they're not too bad.
  6. From what he's said, all by hand, with the help of some tools. You'd have to ask him for the exact process though (and if you do, tell him to get on VGS while you're at it).
  7. He's working on King's Quest at the moment!
  8. I remember strongly disliking it, but you're better at games than I am . I never even made it far enough to see the submarine.
  9. Crazy to hear since they haven't developed a game before, except Zaku (haven't looked at the history on that one in a while, could be wrong). Eh, it looks like they might be talking about developing PC games. Strange departure from what they're known for. Edit: looks like they removed all of their Genesis games too. Very odd.
  10. Micro Mages does the same thing as Kirby at the very end. The game is a forced vertical scroller, so other than doing something like what Lizard does for the frog boss, it seemed like it fit well. Another game that changes the style of play for the end boss, though not to a flying segment, if Quest Forge. The game is somewhat rogue-like in terms of combat, and I spent most of the game wondering how that was going to work come the end since that didn't seem like it would fit for a one-on-one battle. Sure enough, it switched to more of a Zelda-like gameplay type.
  11. Just saw this link, thanks for posting! Time to find even more games to play .
  12. This might be the first that I'm hearing of these. I'll have to give them a look.
  13. I learned from this thread that Air Wolf has two modes, nuts! Like the Guardian Legend, that is a game that I would have indefinitely passed by if the depth to it hadn't been pointed out. Ginga Denshou is one for the FDS that I always forget about (vertical shooter mixed with action-adventure), but it is not really enjoyable like The Guardian Legend. Probably why I forget about it.
  14. Lizard has an interesting Battletoads-like racing segment snuck into it. That was a pleasant, though difficult, surprise.
  15. 500!? I can't even imagine. I'm at 23 and feeling the temptation to start pairing it back some. Also feeling the temptation to push it further .
  16. Translation patches are great, but there always seems to be one more game that I'm looking forward to seeing translated. I probably would have lost interest in the older libraries years ago, but with patches the amount of games out there keeps them alive and well. So what all have you been keeping an eye out for, whether for months or years? Personally, I'm patiently waiting for Star Ocean" Blue Sphere. From what I have played it looks great. Ghideon Zi is working on it, and a French one was released last year. Hanjuku Hero is another one that I'd like to see, being a Squaresoft fan, but it has translation issues. In my own attempts to hack it and play around with changing a few things, I can say that it also has some programming challenges as well.
  17. Couldn't disagree more with @arch_8ngel's evaluation of the gameplay. It is one of the most solid homebrews in that regard, particularly if you like arcade styled games. Art and music are top notch as well. It can be a bit difficult, but it is relatively fair. It was able to be sold outside of China, he just had some hiccups on launch day. Production was high as far as limited releases go (over 100), but the desirability is there due to gameplay.
  18. Glad you made it over to VGS, excited to see the updates!
  19. I played through Paladin's Quest a few years ago. Not terrible, but eh, not the best either. Playable though!
  20. I'll support whatever you all come up with and think would make for a solid experience.
  21. Sounds like I need to break that shrinkwrap and give it a go.
  22. This is a topic that has been long discussed among some of us, but it's nice to see some new folks champion it. Finding the right combination of games is key, since the challenges should differ like they did with the NWC/HBWC/etc. For example, is the challenge difficulty, randomness, time-based, skill mixed with chance, ,high score, etc. Spook-o'-tron doesn't work due to the dual controller (alas!). The Incident is another that is tough since it lacks a random component. Even if it was time based it would be too easy to quickly master it. If a random set of puzzles were used then there are other difficulties. Name a game, give the challenge, section off an area of it for further study (level 2, or X mini-game). This year would be a great year for it!
  23. Woke up to snow on the ground this morning. Is winter starting for anyone else (or has it already)?
  24. Wonderswan, and that's only because I like RPGs and I can't understand any of them. Such a neat library though!
