  1. Everything is the same for the Switch port, so far as I know. A lot of homebrew games are made by one to a few people, but so are similar modern games. A game the size of HH86 9/10 times takes longer to make than modern games of a similar nature, since the code is all written from scratch and does not use libraries the way modern things do. Of course, any game can take as long as the dev wants, but assembly is much more intense and time consuming. Asset creation can be just as challenging and time consuming as well, even more so if trying to understand and work with the system constraints. I haven't done modern dev, but every person I meet that does looks at me like I'm crazy for working on the NES and tells me how things would be so much easier if I'd switch.
  2. Sounds like a fun game for a long road trip.
  3. I saw a lot of that type of bashing on Steam when people tried to port their stuff over. It was a steep, uphill battle to explain to people what was going on and why. Modern consoles hit a different audience it seems, though the battle is still real. The faux-retro genre of games has probably helped too in terms of getting people back into games that follow older conventions.
  4. Lunar: Eternal Blue on the Sega CD (trying to anyways).
  5. I go through spurts, but I usually try to finish whatever I start. I've had a bad run of that the past couple of years, though, and have had a lot of trouble making it through things.
  6. Minit and Transistor arrived this past week, and Evoland and Neurovoider are in transit. Four games in a about a week; glad I get to the mailbox before the wife!
  7. Haunted: Halloween '86 by Retrotainment and Creepy Brawlers by MegaCat Studios are coming to the Switch. I haven't really seen much talk about it. That's kind of exciting news considering that the homebrew community has largely been ignored by the Big N over the years. I was at PAX West working the Retrotainment booth and got to demo HH86 to people, which was a weird experience. There were a lot of, uh, "mature" folk there (old, they were old), but a lot of kids came and picked it up and played it for a good long while. Homebrew on the Switch, it's an interesting thing to think about. What are your thoughts?
  8. Well look who strolled in . Plus 250 exp.
  9. Dropped "Productions" from my username since I hated how really long names altered everything on the old forum. SGP lives on though!
  10. My hope was to have it sitting here all nice and pretty right when the site launched but I went to bed before it went live, so that's why I started it. All yours if you want it! This is the second time I've tried to give it to you... I'd say too that if EnigMog is joining us over here then he can have at it as well (or anyone really). Not sure if anyone has interest in making it wider than the NES though. That's something to talk about. I'd love to have one less thing on my plate.

  12. I have permission to bring over the NN from Brian. That and the currently available thread are first on my list.
  13. Yeah, the Neptune shell. I saw a blog about a fellow making the shell so I took note of the dimensions before buying a printer.
  14. Whoo! Glad someone decided to start this up again. Still reading Dracula, about halfway through, and still liking it!
  15. I guess another question would be: is there even any interest in something more substantial?
  16. I bought a specific 3D printer just for this type of project. Haven't got around to it (and might never), but I'm curious to hear about your attempts as you go.
  17. This has been something that I've been wanting to ask for a while, but what are folks' preferred ways of learning about the development processes behind a game (for those interested in that type of stuff)? I don't mean quick gifs and images posted on social media, but longer tales of development. Blogs seem to be a thing of the past, although one that I personally enjoy, either in the moment or as retrospectives. I haven't seen many video tales, but creators will often do playthroughs and talk about things. AMAs are another form of getting things out. I'm not sure what else is out there, but what do you all prefer when it comes to hearing a little more about games you love (or hate for that matter).
  18. Ha, yeah, sorry. It'll be a work in progress for the next day or two.
  19. The Currently Available Homebrew Thread: The purpose of this thread is to keep an up-to-date list of cartridge homebrew releases that are currently in production for the NES, SMS, Game Boy, Genesis, SNES, and GBA. This list is for those who need their homebrew right now (well, now plus shipping time ). This list will only include currently available releases (or at least those willing to take your money or verbal commitment today). Hacks and repros will not be included. Sold out games will be kept for a while, for reference sake, and then eventually deleted if production is not renewed. For simplicity’s sake, links will be to a game’s individual page/thread (or as close as possible). If a title is struck through, that means that it is still in production, but currently unavailable. Feel free to post in the thread if you see the status of a game change. If you are the creator of a game and you would like to have your work included at a set date/time, please feel free to send me a pm.*Please note, I am sure that there are mistakes and games that slipped my attention in what follows. Feel free to point them out .
