Oh the Humanity Thread (stupid things people do)

Believe it or not, White Out is actually still alive and kicking: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2019/03/who-still-buys-wite-out-and-why/567311/ -
Thank you! As I'm sure you can tell, this list is nowhere near completion. I still have a bunch of pictures to add, and some candy that is missing. It'd be a big help if you dropped some pics in here if/when you find anything. Feel free to let me know if you think anything else is missing. I'm on mobile rn, but I'll add your submission once I get home.

Thoughts on Complete Sets
LaytToTheParty replied to LaytToTheParty's topic in General Collecting Discussion
I'm assuming the top part is directed at me, and for that, I'm sorry. I did not mean to come off as overly aggressive or sarcastic in any way. Yes, I already collect some other stuff-- game-themed candies and foods, Nintendo Power issues, official guidebooks, and World of Nintendo stuff. How are the unofficial guidebooks? Are they well designed and thought out? I might look into them. As for amiibos, well, I really don't want to go down that alley *shudders* In all seriousness though, amiibos sound awesome, although I may sell off some off my World of Nintendo figures and wait for prices on amiibos to come down a bit. -
Movie Debate #18: The Usual Suspects
LaytToTheParty replied to Reed Rothchild's topic in Everything Else
... @Reed Rothchild Can we do themed months? I'd be fine with this month being Kevin Spacey month, despite the whole...mess... -
Exactly. Once we have the list of games in, you guys can make edits and revisions. I'm not really a CiB collector, so I'll leave the "contents" up to y'all to decide. However, I would like to add descriptions for games, plus genre, release date, publisher, and more. Once that's done, we can add even more, and then branch out to other systems. We need to make it easy enough so anyone can edit and add missing information, but also include a way to see past edits and who has made them. For example, if @Gloves kept trying to change the platform of Super Mario Bros from NES to Phillips CDi, we would be able to see that and issue a warning or suspend his editing privileges. This way, we can have multiple people editing and revising at once, but a way to make sure no one spams or trolls. We could also add a "lock" feature, which would allow the mods to "lock" a section that is confirmed to be accurate from further edits (i.e. @Gloves wouldn't be able to change the platform of Super Mario Bros). Nothing against you, Gloves, just thought you'd be fun for the example. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Alright, my bad. I figured we could get more members, like @Bubbapauls, on board with this idea and have more people working on it. As I said to @Code Monkey, we will cross that bridge (what counts as a box, contents of NES games, contents of variants, contents of games from other regions) when we get to it. What exactly do you still want to discuss before we start adding to the database? And @Gloves, what software does the site use? What languages is it compatible with? I think our first step in building the database should be transferring the NES lists from the "Big List of Lists" over, and then we can get down to checking for inaccuracies.

WTB: New 2DS XL (with or without games included)
LaytToTheParty replied to Draygoon's topic in Buying
Mario RPG runs at 50 fps on old models, and the new models run it at locked 60fps. I'm not sure about Yoshi's Island, but the Star Fox games that use the same chip run really well on the newer models, so I imagine it runs at fullspeed. Edit: Yoshi's Island runs natively on the system through the VC, so just inject a rom of it in .cia format and you're good to go! -

Honestly, I just enjoy the thrill of the hunt, and I'll certainly pursue shovelware if it has a story behind it and doesn't cost me more than $500. That's about the most I'll ever be willing to drop on one game, including Stadium Events, since I've gotten most of my bigger bois either through luck or through trades. -
Discussion about adding features, info, and lists to the database. Feel free to chime in for clarification, to make a suggestion, to ask a question, to provide an explanation... Original Post: I'm suggesting a database containing recovered NintendoAge posts and resources, depending on the legality of that, and potentially containing entries for each and every game- ever. Now this may sound like a lot, but read below for more info: We could build a database with complete lists of games, giving each game its own entry, and just trust the community to provide descriptions and reviews of games they've played. Somewhat of a Wikipedia-like thing. We'd have to make it so certain users can be restricted from posting on the database for intentionally inaccurate information or troll reviews. Through this, we could constantly be updating and checking existing entries to provide the ultimate buying guide for retro games. Info on games, games ranked based on user reviews and critic reviews, the ability to sort (by system, by genre for system, ect), and the ability to leave review for games you enjoyed-- or didn't. This will be a huge undertaking, but I have pretty much allthe time in the world right now, since I'm not working and most likely won't be for a few months.

WTB: New 2DS XL (with or without games included)
LaytToTheParty replied to Draygoon's topic in Buying
I highly recommend modding. The N3ds line can run NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, Genesis, SMS, Sega CD, GG, 32X, SCUMMVM, and more damn near flawlessly for most games. N64 and PS1 also run well for a few games, the more popular titles that have been optimized, and MS-DOS and old Mac games also run well. Plus, you've got pretty much every Atari game you'll ever need. -
WTB: New 2DS XL (with or without games included)
LaytToTheParty replied to Draygoon's topic in Buying
@Draygoon I'm not looking to sell, just curious. From what I've seen, the N3ds xl is actually cheaper than the N2ds xl. I personally love my 3ds, the 3d effect in games like Mario 3d Land and Mario Kart 7 is really awesome, and with headtracking on the N3ds it works really well. I'd highly reccomend a 3ds over a 2ds, but the 2ds does have a slightly better and more durable hinge. Any specific reason you're after a 2ds? -

@0xDEAFC0DE I was thinking of a sub-section format. We could have an "NES" section in the database. Inside that section "games" could be one of the subsections. Inside the "games" subsection, we could have the agreed upon "complete licensed NES set" as well as "unlicensed games" and "prototypes" and maybe even "homebrew NES games". I'm not too knowledgeable about NES variants, but I feel like they should be in that "games" folder with everything else, but not in the complete licensed set. However, we need to make it clear that Stadium Events is not a variation, since it includes a completely different rom made by a different publisher.

I've got a multicade, 2 pinball machines, and a Golden Tee I'm fixing for a friend. Is that good enough? -
