  1. I just kept going in until I had done all the challenges at least once. There's 5 challenges and it's random which one you get each time.
  2. This is all the manual says about it. I counted it beaten a few years back since I had unlocked the entire "wheel of fortune" and I had spun it enough times to land on (and complete) all the events on it. It would be great to discover some kind of an ending though.
  3. 61 hours. I will mail you a trophy if you beat that game. Hunchback is great. I've messed around with Ninja Boy but never actually beat it. I'll be interested to see what you think of Triple Dare and Spy vs. Spy. I'm past halfway in Cool Ball. Really liking this one.
  4. Game Boy all day! I don't have a lot of duplicates but I did just upgrade my copies of Cool Ball and Bubsy 2 if you're in the market for ugly copies
  5. No one here can help you with this. Once you get help from a professional, let us know what they say! Don't kill yourself or else the stalker will win!!
  6. Congrats!! I finished Bubsy 2. It's an interesting case for me, because I remember picking this game up years ago, and deciding it was garbage, because the hitboxes are bad, Bubsy skids all over the place like he's on ice, and I couldn't kill any enemies. After trying it again in earnest, I can say that it's not a masterpiece but it's not THAT bad. Push Select to choose different weapons, including a projectile weapon that never runs out. You can jump on enemies to hurt them, and even though it LOOKS like it's hurting you, you don't actually take damage. In each level you just have to find the exit. There's lots of marbles to collect, but I think it's just for points that don't affect anything. Just find the exit. You can "glide" to slow your descent, which is good. It also has strong inertia, you have to ramp up your speed to start moving, and stop well before you want to, and lining up with doorways is a pain. It has silly minigames for extra points and lives. The sprites are big, so you can't see very far, a common problem on GB. But the character animations are charming and pleasant-ish. It has gotcha enemies that fall from the sky, unmarked passageways through walls, and no continues/saves/passwords. But lots of 1ups. So it's... fine. I'll have to figure out how I rank this one since it's got good things and bad things. It's probably about as enjoyable as..... Barbie Game Girl?
  7. My wife's mom used to send the kids off to school early so she could play NES, referring to her binder of three-hole-punched issues of Nintendo Power for Metroid tips. She doesn't seem to play anymore, but she definitely plays Candy Crush and I'm pretty sure she had a 3DS ten years ago. Wife hates them for a range of reasons, so I more I keep them physically hidden out of everyone's sight at all times, the happier we are. My kids know I have a collection but they never see me playing them. Half of the "welcome new employee" bios I see at work say something like "in his spare time, josh likes to spend time with family and play video games." So it seems it's becoming more of a mainstream hobby that people aren't as embarrassed about anymore. People playing them with their kids, etc. I still have a twinge of "I should be ashamed of this" whenever I'm talking to other adults, and I don't mention that I play old video games. I have to push through a lot of other interests first before I even begin to mention that I repair/modify old game consoles, and I basically never say that I play them. I'm a respectable dad! I just HAPPEN to completely destroy everyone at Dr. Mario when someone pulls out a NES mini.
  8. Holy moley, don't tell anyone you know how to code lol. I've had so many people pitch their "million dollar ideas" to me (and also lots of other people obviously, that's why this joke article exists) but it's REAL lol. Had a friend from Brazil contact me with his idea to make "Carfax but in Brazil" and he said he had a guy to do marketing, he just needed someone to uhh, to uhhhh, "make everything?" I said. "exactly" he said.
  9. Lol exact same. I've been collecting GG casually for long enough that I now have all the commons and literally nothing that's hard to find in the slightest. So with my $100 I'm checking the GG and black-cart GB racks, and after finding nothing I'm springing for Starcraft 64 baybeeee!!!
  10. Knocked out Link's Awakening on Switch. Ok. I'm a huge Game Boy dweeb, so I was very happy to see Link's Awakening get a release on the Switch. It was always one of those games that could "compete" with contemporary console games. Like, the existence of this game helped make it ok to be such a GB fanboy. After beating the remake, I see just how small the game actually is, and how much the original was (intentionally or not) lengthened by the constant item switching. It really was a groundbreaking game for GB, it made me proud to think "yes, that part/mechanic/joke/system/etc really was in the original GB game!" But a lot of those things lose their luster when playing on a modern console, where way cooler stuff already exists. Dedicated buttons for the sword and shield (and Pegasus Boots) are an enormous QoL improvement. All the times I played through this game on GB, I was never very big on using the shield. But now that it has a dedicated button, I see that there are many, many enemies and bosses that are stupid-easy when you just keep your shield up. Also there are more warp points, can't complain about that. It was good to see the Color Dungeon because I never actually played through the DX version that had it. Also, no joke, I'm pretty sure I always cheated my way through the Eagle's Tower dungeon, using the "select warp" glitch, but now I finally did it for reals. (they didn't port the glitch over. ) I was happy to see a lot of details preserved from the GB version, and also furious to see other details omitted. A lot of stuff was pretty obtuse originally and needed to be changed. The game has a handful of quirks and bugs that were disappointing, but it was a lot of fun to play. I'd probably be mad if I were a kid, playing this for the first time, and seeing just how fast you can rip through the game. Especially after playing TotK and even Skyward Sword. I messed around with the added dungeon-building stuff, it's neat in theory, but I'm definitely done with it. Oh, and thanks @JamesRobot for gifting me this game for Secret Santa 2023!
  11. I always knew what Mega Man was, but didn't play it until I brought my SNES to college and my roommate gushed about Mega Man X (and NBA Jam). I went ahead and bought them both on ebay and I played a ton of MMX. I've since played MMX 2 and 3, and all the GB games, but none of the NES games. I have no doubt that they're great games, but I kinda feel like I shouldn't just play ONE of them, and I hesitate to commit to ALL of them. Next year's backlog perhaps.
  12. I'm playing stuff, I'm determined to get on the list. I always wanted to check out Attack of the Mutant Penguins after the AVGN Jaguar episode. So I've been noodling with it but I'm struggling with a lack of feedback. ("what? I thought I could put gremlins in this treasure chest. oh I DID put gremlins in there. How many did I put in? How many do I have left? Oh the round is over and I lost. How should I know how close it was?) I tried Supercross 3D with 2 different emulators and ROMs, and the opponent players never leave the starting line. That has to be an emulation thing?
  13. There's a bunch of NES staples that I've just never gotten to, like I feel like I should play Metroid, Punch Out, and any of the Mega Man games. I also missed out on tons of non-Nintendo stuff when I was a kid, so there's a bunch of must-plays on Genesis and Playstation that I feel like I ought to play. I've never given Doom a proper go in any form.
  14. Taking a break from Championship Pool. I'm doing better, but you still have to get lucky even when the shot looks solid. I can watch the preview shots, seeing them land in the pocket over and over, and then it just doesn't go in. And one miss can cost the game. And that's frustrating and I've been playing Rampart instead. Which is another game where you have to get a bit lucky lol.
  15. Anyone here have a grey-cart DKL? I have one and I've seen 2 other people on the internet mention it. Maybe the other thread is the better place to discuss it...
  16. ooh, I'll try some of these. There's a handful of Jaguar games I've wanted to check out.
  17. Yeah any platform where users can anonymously upvote or downvote, affecting what others see, is absolutely going to be manipulated.
  18. Welcome! Finally getting 100% on every level in Yoshi's Island is the crowning achievement of my childhood.
  19. That number indicates a facility code, so any two cartridges that were made in the same factory will have the same number. So there are likely thousands of copies with "09" stamped.
  20. Ok I read the spoilers Yes, the CPU's turn just removes some of their balls from the table, that's it. I've also noticed that when the CPU breaks, there's a small handful of configurations that appear on the table when it's your turn. So I've learned a couple of sequences for some of those configurations. I'll try some of those other tips, including playing on an Analogue Pocket, so I can sleep it and keep the game running indefinitely. Infinite continues was the only way I could get through Side Pocket. What it comes down to is being able to run the entire table when it's your turn, because even within the first tournament, not even at the end of it, I've had games where I had one turn only. The CPU broke and missed once, then when I missed, the CPU won on their turn. So I just have to practice the game of positioning the cue ball on each shot, to set up the next shot, and don't ever miss lol.
