Basement Treasures

My basement is chock full of things from my past (as well as some things I bought only a few years ago). Books, VHS tapes, Ninja Turtles items, etc. The kinds of things that many people born in the 80's/90's probably stopped caring about around the age of 12 or 13, because they're "too old." For the last two years, in my spare time, I've looked inside several boxes in my basement. I not only found a lot of goodies, but also some things I forgot I even still had. Here are some of my findings:

Books

nintendosportsbook.jpg.a5f09482bd0f173834580486fa8b4081.jpg

Found this Nintendo Sports book. I don't think I read it much when I was a kid. However, I did (and still do) have another book called Winning Tips for Nintendo which I used to read a lot.

Inside a box with non gaming-related items were the manuals for Tetris and my Game Boy.

henrysmoonbookpic2.jpg.f40f8968b20c4e1892b4c44655a60df1.jpg

One of my childhood books. My parents wrote a note inside the book 30 years ago, which I didn't know about until recently.

VHS Tapes

We all know about the Jungle Book Disney movie. However,  I remember watching a Jungle Book tape in 1994/1995 that was not the Disney movie. I have vague memories of watching a Jungle Book video with a character named "Kichi". But Kichi is not in the Disney movie. And I couldn't find ANY pictures or info about this video on the internet. I wondered, what Jungle Book video did I watch in the early/mid 90's? Something obscure? Did I even still have it? Well, I found the tape mixed in with lots of other tapes. I saw the title, looked it up, and found pictures and info about it. I had no idea it was part of an anime series.

I got a ton of stuff from McDonald's in the 90's, such as Hockey cards, toys, and I even won a Hockey Stick autographed by Wayne Gretzky. In 1995, they were giving away four movies: Willy the Sparrow, Tiny the Seventh Brother, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Treehouse Gang. I think I still have the Tiny and Goldilocks movies as well, but might not have Treehouse Gang anymore.

CDs and Cassettes

The Chipmunks Audio Cassettes.

disneycd.jpg.dd806aacdc8ff69c114694d7ce9be480.jpg

A collection of Disney movie songs, such as "You Can Fly!" from Peter Pan and "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid.

Ninja Turtles

A Ninja Turtles Pencil Sharpener, with Raphael inside. Used to have water.

ninjaturtlesbottlepic2.jpg.a19b441c01fecc9e397aae788ff06e99.jpg

Yeah, I got a ton of Ninja Turtles stuff when I was a kid. Way more than just the movies and video games.

Other stuff

battletoadsdrawing.jpg.1106248b7308924034d1ed2e58d3fa55.jpg

A drawing of Rash from Battletoads.

In addition to this, I also found a black Basketball from Pizza Hut. Maybe I'll post a picture of it later.

marbles.jpg.b0da271deb71e0424bd32d9d754a8802.jpg

I found my small collection of Marbles.

baseballtoy.jpg.696c4616882e0de157ef8d234758484d.jpg

This Baseball guy would talk if he was dropped on the floor. He still talks.

pizzahutcow.jpg.9baa3ebbf1b6974fc282c362030c2b91.jpg

I believe I got this Cow from Pizza Hut.

Interesting fact about this anime -- it was dubbed into Hindi and was broadcast in the U.S. on Zee TV in the late 90's.

The character of 'Kichi' that you remember was Mowgli's Red Panda buddy.  He was an original character created by the Japanese animation team and was not originally found in the Jungle Book stories (as Red Pandas aren't found in tropical parts of India, only in Arunachal Pradesh).  His inclusion into the series was due to the enormous popularity that Red Pandas have in Japan.

Here's the Hockey stick I mentioned above that was autographed by Wayne Gretzky, which I won at McDonald's:

It was also in the basement. I also still have its box, so it was protected all these years.

Also from McDonald's.

The Necklace that came with Free Willy 2.

Found a few more VHS tapes, including something video game-related:

I used to watch a video game show called Video & Arcade Top 10 and recorded some episodes on VHS. This episode is from the N64 era and features San Francisco Rush and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, so I probably recorded it in late 1999 or early 2000. I think the last time I watched the show was during the GameCube era in either 2004/2005, because I remember seeing an episode with Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and also remember Mega Man Anniversary Collection being one of the prizes they were giving away.

vhstapes.jpg.c05ffe91f357338413891d23a8ad69bb.jpg

Also found my VHS copies of One Magic Christmas and The Santa Clause.

testdrive5pcpic.jpg.57de8a595cd86a61184dd7ac0221f1ed.jpg

Test Drive 5 for PC. Played this a lot in the year 2000.

nflvhs.jpg.f993a59753ec46d074e5173289e20559.jpg

NFL bloopers VHS. Don't think I've watched this since the '90s. I was more interested in Baseball and Hockey. And Monster Trucks.

In the '90s, my parents would, on occasion, surprise me even if it wasn't Christmas or my Birthday. But something I didn't know about (or may have forgot about) was this $2 bill inside this Little Mermaid book. It's just been sitting in there since the early '90s.

bambivhs.jpg.deaf967741c1e6d768e04dffcc663646.jpg

My VHS copy of Bambi. I used to have the earlier VHS release from the '80s, but I think it wore out. This was another surprise from my parents. I remember waking up one morning in 1996 or 1997, walked into our little playroom, and found this Bambi VHS tape sitting on the VCR. I have most of the Disney classics on Blu-ray now, but getting this was a huge deal in the '90s.

treehousegangvhs.jpg.5f586c7508f34ecc05e3c3655284de21.jpg

I mentioned above that I got the movies that were sold at McDonald's in 1995, but wasn't sure if I still have Treehouse Gang or not. Well, It looks like I do still have it.

captainunderpantsbook.jpg.d56c6c76789ba6dd71991d1c43982139.jpg

The Captain Underpants books always made me laugh when I was a kid. A good source of entertainment when I wasn't playing games or watching movies.

skatingribbons.jpg.f339c479c96b68c62a0f5c6338760c9b.jpg

Some ribbons I earned after taking some Skating lessons.

birthdaycardspic2.jpg.66e42d0dfad423575f6ede09e6bc437a.jpg

Lots of Birthday cards from both family and friends.

Found a nice haul yesterday @MegaMan52.  I found these in my dad's garage!

They were mine, I knew they were there, so it's not a surprise, just sharing 🙂

Total of 67 Sealed figures, i think, and the 3 die cast micro machines.  All the opened ones were dupes of the sealed!
