  1. I started collecting NES in summer of 94' The snes was rolling along well. I remember buying these games from $2-$5. The "expensive" games were $10-$15. I never saw or met another collector in person until 2000 or 2001. I can't remember the site now but we would go into this large chat like room and talk about what carts we had. This was before Mike released the first NES checklist. I remember going into game shops / pawn shops in 1996 and had people asking me whey I collected these old games that nobody wanted. Its was a great time to collect. To me, collecting became "mainstream" around 2006-2009 (when internet on cell phones became a thing). Then it went from good finds for cheap, to having to fight resellers at flea markets and garage sales. Also with the internet exploding, Garage sales and flea market venders, started asking for Ebay prices because they now knew with the internet, their games had a market and value. I wish current collectors could have experienced a time collecting that didn't involve having to do it all online and with reasonable prices for nice condition games.
  2. Looks like it was laid down on something for a long period of time... Also it could have been at the Manufacturer Plant and the machine was damaged causing a batch of them to come off the presses like that...Interesting...
  3. I love the system. Loved it so much I got a complete set, and am only 6 games or so from a complete TGCD-16 set. Then there is my PCE games........ I agree with Tanooki on this. Get a DUO-RX and and Everdrive. To me its not worth it at the current market prices. To me its a cross of a SNES and NES. I also love the controller with those built in turbo switches.... So awesome!!
  4. For future Nintendo games, Just search Google with the Product ID located on the bottom right. That is a great place to start.
  5. I started in 1994. I was 16, and went with a buddy to a local gameshop and bought buckets of NES games for $3-$5 each. Most expensive games were all $10 and were Contra, Mario 3, Dragon Warrior 2-4, Final Fantasy, Mega Man 2 & 3, Punch Out, Zelda, Ninja Gaiden, and Double Dragon 2. There might have been a few other $10 games but that is about it. Rest were in that $3-$5 range. We would also hit up the flea markets and get games as well. He and I would go online (i cant remember the site name. It was his computer), and we would talk to others and try to make a master list. New games were being found all the time and we had a blast. I never lost that community of people working together toward something they had in common. Around my city, people joked about me wasting my time and money on old games instead of getting the new system. I collect now because its what I like to do. Do I play every game I get? Nope, not at all. I play what I can, when I can, and usually with a friend. I get games because it is a challenge that I take on myself. If they value tanked tomorrow would I be mad? Nope. I mean it would suck, but I wouldn't be mad. I collect for me, and not to have my ego stroked by other collectors. Now just wish there were more vintage game collectors around me that I could hang with and play games. I love watching somebody's game collection grow and talking about it.
  6. I think I am going to do a Gamecube set, Nintendo Power set ( I have most already), and SHMUP's for the Switch and PS4
  7. Oh thank God...I tried to put a list together in 2005 and couldn't find any list online. Then I started looking at photos and piecing it together from that. I lost what I had done, and recently considered going to complete the set. Now I don't have to start that process over again. Thank you for posting this.....
  8. Nice to see some familier names, and some new peeps. Hello all !!!!!! I finished my Dreamcast NTSC set, and then went on to get all SHMUPS for the Dreamcast including the "Post Death" SHMUPS for it. Now I have to pick something else and decided to go Gamecube (It was that or start tackling the PS1) . I have most of the heavy hitters, so it shouldn't be too bad. I just want to get them in lots. Also I got a Modded Spice Cube with matching GBA player, so I can play all the imports that didn't come out there that I like. The Cube was my favorite system that generation, so I am excited to find some new games to try out.
  9. Like assholes everybody has an opinion. Mine is, for it to count it has to actually have the game in physical form in the case to count for a set. Selling me artwork, case, stuffed animal and a piece of paper doesn't make it a game. Its like saying you have to collect those prepaid game cards they sell at stores for them to count for the complete set.........
  10. I would copy all those variant lists from NA. The community made them. Also I think a separate variant collecting sub forum would be nice. That way every system can have its posts. Might be a little too much. Just an idea. I dabble in some variants. Not serious though. I was working on the N64 ones before they exploded in popularity. I got most, but missed a few. I try to pick up the rare variant carts for my NES set and replace the common ones.
  11. I'm wanting NA circa 2008...... There was a lot more giving, and good vibes. People were positive and helped each other out. Everybody wanted everyone's collection to grow. As the hobby hit more mainstream ( I noticed the first bump around 2000), every year the "friendliness" of the site slowly dwindled and became almost cold. Its why I stopped coming by as much. I am looking forward to see if VGS gets the community back to its roots. It has the right people, and that's got me excited.
  12. You cut me deep Randy........ Didn't the Campouts mean anything to you???? Oh man there are lots of people from the campout days. Any more drinking in a tent, playing games soon????
  13. Great topic!! Just need to note the English Friendly games to have a master list.....
  14. Hey guys I am starting to put together a list of all the physical releases of SHMUP games on the Switch. Because its region free, it would include all regions and limited releases. I haven't decided yet if i am going to include both the standard and limited version or just stick to the standard release yet. I have come across some small random lists on various sites, but I kind of want a complete list. Since VGS is new and has many of the same awesome people from NA, I didn't know if you guys could help me continue this here? This is what I have so far..... Also I would like to know how we define this list? I would like it to be agreed upon. Furthermore, if you know of a game, please put all the info in your post or at a bare minimum a link to where it is. I don't mind updating the list, but cant see everything all the time and can't spend a ridiculous amount of time researching. 15. Thanks. I didn't think anybody liked my ramblings. I did have a few people like the fact I didn't edit them. They said it was more real and not produced. With this development over the past year or so I might be starting up some videos. Also am going to start my journey in the Gamecube set (I already have about a third of it already), and think it will be fun to document my experience. Not sure if anybody would watch them with all the new game collecting channels out now......
