  1. Completing Championship pool that quickly without using save states is pretty impressive. I've beaten it once for the 2018 contest and it took about 35 hours, and I know that any future attempt would take me just as long.
  2. Just noticed Lunar Pool is up to 10 now. Wasn't that a 6 a few years ago?
  3. THIS IS NOT A DRILL THIS IS NOT A DRILL THE KOEI BLOCK HAS BEGUN Gemfire, next up Nobunaga's Ambition
  4. The American dream has always been about going where the opportunities are, and it's never been easier today than anytime in human history. Think of the people who all the people who moved from Europe in the 1800s and never saw or heard from anyone in their hometowns again. Now you can facetime your relatives and tell them you just yanked your crank or crapped out a kid or whatever mundane stuff you want to share on a daily basis. You owe it to yourself to experience a few different places and meet new people / make new friends / experience different parts of the country (or world).
  5. That's a vast understatement of the amount of work put into the movie by a huge team of professionals that Peter Jackson hired. I saw it in the theaters, and after the movie, there was a 20 minutes behind the scenes segment that showed some of the technology needed to get the old videos cleaned (frame by frame) and put at the proper frame rate and then colorized, and then all the audio work. I hope that segment got added to the Blu-Ray as an extra.
  6. I'm doing the whole Koei block, so I'll finish it either for the contest or not
  7. I'll commit to playing the Koei block + Shingen next year. After that, whatever RPGs I have time for.
  8. I wouldn't use the tax option since it really pisses the cities off. Yeah, make Paris and a few other interior cities that you don't need to defend be supply bases and don't worry if they starve. There's also an option to toggle food sufficiency between low and high and I always make it low. Fuck em I'm not sure about the recruits. It must be a factor of population and a few other things relating to general happiness of the city (e.g. food sufficiency). I typically start by making alliances immediately with Spain and Turkey if possible, rolling up the Scandinavian countries, then Prussia, then Austria, then Russia. Once is Russia is gone, it's all downhill as you work on Turkey, then Spain, then finally Britain (which will be starving and in poor shape after they can't import from Russia anymore). This is for scenario 4, however. I'm sure it's a lot tougher starting on 1.
  9. It's kind of hard to diagnose without more specifics. Are you talking about the quarterly executive phases? You can make territories supply bases under the Command option. Otherwise that seems odd.. Like every city got no food in November? Remember the city consumes food every month too. I'd try to make an alliance with Spain, even if you have to give a massive amount of gold, and take out Russia. Then a huge amount of troops and resources can be moved to Western Europe. It's kind of like a reverse Schlieffen plan except you're France instead of Germany
  10. The game won't "end" until you conquer all of Europe.
  11. sorry to pull a Jim Anchower here, since it's been a long time since I rapped at ya, but shit's been crazy this month. Anyway, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 is done, and I'll do my best to finish Shingen before the end of the year.
  12. Every time I see Wata Games I think of the Bill Burr podcast clip on YT with Granny F'in Wata (Wataaaaaah)!
  13. Looks like we hit another plateau here, but I'm good to finish up the Koei block with RotTK2 and also will do Shingen the Ruler once I'm back from vacation next week.
  14. You know, that's a tricky place to be in since you're credentialed but also have no work experience. I'm sure she'll find something but it's a bit of a tough sell unless you're willing to eat sh*t for a couple of years just to rebalance your work history and number of exams passed.
  15. The early exams are just testing whether you have the mathematical aptitude or not. If you can grok probability distributions and crap like variance, skewness, kurtosis etc. you should be fine. If you PM me I'd love to chat with a burgeoning actuary!
  16. Actuary by day, retro porn archivist and general scumbag at night
  17. Bandit Kings of Ancient China is done. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 is next. Haven't heard an update from Crab in a while, but I guess he's still working on L'Empereur and that will finish the Koei games. I assume no one is interested in beating Shingen? I can do that one too.
  18. I will finish Bandit Kings soon. One another note, should we create a subforum for the contest threads?
  19. Besides knuckleheads paying 10s of thousands of dollars for SMB1?
  20. Just checking out all the new stuff!
