  1. Same. I picked it up on Switch when it came to North America. It has its issues but it's still a fun game.
  2. The only games I don’t like to buy on Switch are the ones that work much better on PC (point n clicks or certain FPS’s) or games where the graphics are really downgraded for Switch (WRC8). Otherwise I pretty much prefer Switch as the platform for it’s portability option.
  3. I'm such a hypocrite because I really dislike fake paperweight cart replicas in collector's editions but if it comes from NINTENDO then I just HAVE TO HAVE IT.
  4. One exception to this is whether the translations are in the cart data or if they come from a day one DLC. Some carts, especially in Japan, really don't come with English at all. Some will come with Japanese and English but no other languages. Asia releases might have Japanese, English and Chinese while Euro releases might have some supported European languages. Like Ace Angler doesn't have English language support on the cart, that came with a day 1 DLC. Some collectors make a big deal about getting games that have as much data on the cart as possible. I remember when I posted on r/NSCollectors about Ace Angler having an English cover for Asia, there were multiple people asking if it would have English on the cart. In the end it didn't and they felt no need to buy it just to have English cover art.
  5. @phart010 it's funny you mention Gigantic Army because we had a thread about this: The carts were repackaged for different distributors, one set has to bear the PEGI logo, the others do not. All the carts are -EUR. I think in the future this will be viewed as 3 variants of one release, and inclusion in regional sets may be based on where these were distributed (so yeah an EUR cart will be considered part of a NA release set or Asia release set...) I really torched the point I made before... For collectors and in the past the region is usually based on the ratings code because ratings codes dictated where a game could be sold, and we were all collecting standard retail games. There have been very few exceptions to this rule before the rise of boutique publishers. Now you have publishers and distributors repackaging carts for different regions and it makes things very weird. Another example are the Middle East U.A.E. 3DS games which have US ESRB carts and ESRB ratings on the cover but the cover art has the extra U.A.E. version designation for sale in Middle East only. The cart is identical to a North American release, could you count it in a North American set? I don't think this argument has come up but yeah.
  6. (emphasis mine) I'm not sure if I'm reading you correctly here but it seems like you think we are in the middle of a recession and you were expecting collectors to start cashing in because they need the money? Because while we are definitely living in uncertain economic times, this has not worked out to be a wide recession the way I was expecting. Some people are definitely suffering, having lost significant investments (e.g. especially anyone who was heavily invested in travel, restaurants, etc.) but others are doing fine or better than usual. You have people who are working from home, maintaining their usual paycheck, and having more disposable income to put towards stuff to fill their houses. There's uncertainty but it's uneven. There's enough people with funds to create the demand we are seeing. If anything I think what could cause prices to come down would be what you said (people find out this stuff isn't as rare as they thought) combined with people getting burned throwing too much money at stuff thinking they will make it back quickly and failing.
  7. OH MY GOSH I GOT IT FINALLY. Now to see if I can cancel this Facebook order Says will be ready for in-store pickup on Dec. 12... makes me wonder if this is a second batch.
  8. The only Nintendo handheld console libraries that were region locked were DSi and 3DS. Game Boy through Advance, DS and now Switch are all region-free.
  9. Thank you. The cost with shipping isn't bad compared to what some people are charging online. I have a pending order with a Facebook seller for $75 USD altogether but I'm worried he might back out. I'll let you know what happens.
  10. How did I never see this thread? Saw someone mentioned Xenoblade Chronicles, I'm playing the Definite Edition and while I like it, it is not a "cannot put this game down" experience like XC2 was. I'm surprised because so many people who like the series will insist that XC1 is the best of the bunch, by far. Maybe it's because I played 2 first but I think 2 is greatly improved in so many ways. And I'm like 30+ hours in on 1 so it's not like I haven't seen anything good yet. That being said I still think both games are fantastic so maybe this isn't a good example. Some that come to mind for me are: Fallout: New Vegas. I know this is a great game and might be the best of the 3D Fallouts. I can't deny that I was really impressed with it and I put quite a few hours into it. But the story was just too depressing. I had to stop playing it because it made me depressed. Fez. This one I really wanted to like because the soundtrack is fantastic and it looks great and of course I love puzzle games. I had heard the soundtrack long before I played the game (had to wait for it to hit PC) and I even remixed two of the songs from the soundtrack and made it onto the official remix album. And then I played the game and I was so disappointed. Not because the concept or level design was bad, but because IIRC there was no map and it was so easy to get lost. It felt like a game that you had to complete on one playthrough or take a lot of notes. Maybe I should try it again but I was shocked with how much praise it got and without anyone mentioning this poor design choice. Fortnite. This one is more because I'm just not good at the building while shooting mechanic. Obviously it's a great game. But the most complexity I can handle in an FPS is playing the Spy in Team Fortress 2 and even then I sometimes screw up my moves and end up getting caught. Having to rapidly build structures in Fortnite to defend myself while also shooting at my opponents is just too hard. That's my list for now. And... is it um... weird that all of these begin with F? I think it's weird.
  11. Gah! Like 2 years ago I had a chance to buy this misprint at a great price but I didn't really know enough about it and I ended up asking the seller a bunch of questions and moving too slow and someone else got it before I did. Now it seems harder to find
  12. Whoa hold up. I doubt many people will demand that a full set require all variants of a game - will probably be based on carts, not variants. It's not difficult if someone started in 2017 and has deep pockets. Everything has been available at retail for at least a little while, or you just had to be on top of the limited print pre-orders. This isn't like PS4 where if you weren't one of the 50 people that gambled on Poop Slinger then you missed out. Minimum print order for PAL games is 3k. Minimum print order for NA region is 5k. Sure 3k is "low print" but nothing has been particularly difficult to get. With sites like Shop4Megastore and Base and Rarewaves being easily accessible to North American customers, and a lot of resellers putting stuff on Amazon and eBay, I've been able to pick up pretty much any PAL exclusive I was interested in, sometimes at great prices. OK but consider this. The carts have region codes. North America is -USA, Japan is -JPN, Europe is -EUR and Asia is -ASI. There might be some more specific region codes but my point that the consensus will probably be based on cart region, not ratings. I say this because while Japan is consistent with CERO ratings, Southeast Asia with that system they have and North America with ESRB, Europe differs. In UK they have UKV, elsewhere they have PEGI but then there are some exceptions like if you are producing the game in Germany and only selling in Germany and/or direct to consumer then you don't have to carry a rating at all. Hence why some of the PixelHeart Euro releases have no ratings! Also I have heard of some instances of JPN carts being packaged for Southeast Asia in Asia boxes with Asia ratings... so maybe I'm undermining my own point here. That being said it is already popular among a subset of Switch collectors to collect only ESRB releases, so there's that.
  13. Update on that Super Mario 3D Land which was $5... so I was about to compare it to my other copy of SM3DL to decide which one to keep and then I spent like 20 minutes looking all over my house because I couldn't find my other copy... until I finally realized I DIDN'T HAVE ONE. I think I had bought the game digitally when it came out and never got around to adding a physical copy to my collection. So, well, I ended up keeping it.
  14. I have sent you a private message
  15. Finally got around to adding the Nov. 30 holiday item rewards!
  16. More hunts! Here’s a fun one... was worried someone would backdoor it but surprisingly it came through! And I got this bundle from someone on Reddit for $145:
  17. I know, I slept on these. I’m tempted to try to get them still. The Echoes SE isn’t too expensive even. But I have some higher priority stuff right now... I also spotted a VHS original animation at one point? Will try to nab that if I see it at a good price.
  18. Oops, I’m behind on my duty! I’ll update this list by tonight
  19. Same reason they spend a fortune on fine art, watches, cars that never leave the garage... to flex? Or maybe to invest??? (Have you seen this by the way?) I'm just speculating here but maybe it's that in some circles you are cool if you spend all your time going to yard sales, find a raw game in the wild and mail it off to Wata, while in other circles you are cool if you buy auctions straight from the most well known auction house and spend big bucks. The dentist who dropped a million $ wasn't going to get attention from the press if he was spending smaller money on loose carts. It's not a big deal anymore to do what everyone else is doing. Also as crazy as it sounds, there are some people who have already made a profit buying from only 1 site and selling there too.
