  1. I mean it's got a big, fat picture of Mario on the box. It clearly says Super Mario Bros. 2 and has Nintendo's logo right on the front. Seems like a legit Mario game to me. Not sure where the confusion is coming from...
  2. My stance is that if the developer doesn't want to include it, then they shouldn't have to. If somebody doesn't like Dark Souls the way it is, then play something else. It's not like there aren't a million other options when it comes to video games. If they want to add easy mode, then great and I'd never complain about it. But I'm not so entitled that I'm just going to start demanding stuff. Like I'm not getting pissed when The Bluey Videogame doesn't have an ultra-hard mode so that I can enjoy it.
  3. Yeah, that's what has me puzzled. Like, I get people wanting an easier Dark Souls, but what's the point with a game that is already easy to begin with? If you're just walking around, talking to townsfolk, and battles are reduced to just mashing the A button... I just don't see what enjoyment there is to be had there.
  4. So I just learned that the new Super Mario RPG remake will have a new easy mode (called "Breezy"), and it just got me thinking. I know that Easy Modes in video games has become somewhat of a contentious issue amongst gamers lately. I've seen people get downright nasty on both sides when talking about whether Dark Souls should or should not have one. Personally, including a seperate mode that I'm likely never going to touch doesn't bother me at all. I'm just starting to wonder why people play video games at all, though. If I just want a story, there's plenty of more accessible options for that. I play games because I want to do something: conquer a challenge, solve a puzzle, outsmart or outperform my opponents, use my skills, use my reflexes, use my brain, etc. I don't get that at all when the stakes are zero and challenge is non-existent. It's a completely empty experience. It's not even like SMRPG was a difficult game to begin with. Again, I have no problem with the option being there... I just don't understand why anyone would bother using it. Thoughts?
  5. NES The Mafat Conspiracy Infiltrator Genesis Alien Storm Toy Story Super NES Jurassic Park Toy Story
  6. They're not asking, "what's your favorite..." The question is, "what game comes to mind..."
  7. Retroarch on my PC. Playing GameBoy on original hardware is just too brutal, even for me.
  8. John Madden Football. Played it on the ol' Apple II back in the day and though it was pretty neat. Did they ever make any more of these? Serious answer is Blast Corps.
  9. I don't get it. Isn't New Game+ in most cases basically just a bonus mode to mess around with after you beat the game? Like in Chrono Trigger, it's an easy way to play through a bunch of times and see the different endings without having to waste time on tedious stuff like grinding for experience and money to buy stuff. In The Last of Us, it was a way to experience the story again, while being able to finally max out Joel's upgrades and play the game as a badass. It's not the game's fault that you can't do that in one playthrough. It's specifically designed so that you have to make those tough choices on what to upgrade and what to skip. But, in the bonus mode, it's more about screwing around and having fun. I haven't played every game that has a New Game+ option, but I've never came across one that I felt absolutely obligated to play.
  10. I bought this game from a flea market way back when. I actually thought I got a busted cartridge, because there was just no way I could believe that the music was really supposed to sound like that.
  11. Hard pass from me then. Hopefully they erectify that with FF17.
  12. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas features a character, Madd Dogg, who is voiced by professional musician/actor Ice-T. I'm pretty sure this is exactly what you're looking for.
  13. I played soooooo much Vice City that I was pretty burnt out with GTA by the time this came out and skipped it. Ended up moving on to Saints Row instead.
  14. Can't remember everyone for sure, but these were some of my favorite shows: The Ataris Blink-182 Dance Hall Crashers Less Than Jake The Living End MXPX The Offspring Pennywise Here's the old junk I could find:
  15. Yeah, that would have been a dealbreaker for me LOL
  16. Beat a game of Baseball. About as basic a baseball game as you can get. I never got a good handle on pitching in this one, it seemed I could only either struck a guy out on three pitches or he would hit a double off me. But I survived for the win. Also finished Extra Bases. Man, this is one broken baseball game. Hitting is pretty easy since the CPU pretty much throws it over the plate every time. All you need to do is get the timing down and you'll consistently make contact, resulting in a hit about 30%-40% of the time. The CPU also makes tons of bonehead plays in the field which makes it pretty easy to get extra bases and score. I found a trick to pitching. With a RH pitcher, just throw the ball and hold right on the D-pad to throw a pitch that sails right of the plate. Even though it would definitely be a ball, the CPU batter will swing and miss on this pitch like 95% of the time. Once I found this I never gave up another run. My best performance was a perfect game with 27 strikeouts
  17. Not my favorite track right there LOL Overall, though, I think the soundtrack is pretty good.
  18. I just beat Kabuki: Quantum Fighter for the first time in a long time. This is my kind of NES action game. Definitely challenging, but never too cheap or unfair. Also, doesn't hurt that it looks great, sounds great and controls great.
  19. Alright, @AirVillain this has been fun, but I need a break from this thread. All I will say is thank goodness all the progress we've made here has been recorded at this wonderful site, so we can continue on where right we left off. It would have been truly awful if I had to start the conversation over from the beginning every time I logged in. videogamesage.com gets a 10/10
  20. Actually, those are excellent points. I take back everything bad I said about the game. @AirVillain should have led with that.
  21. 30 seconds? Nice try, buddy. Look up a SMB3 speedrun and it takes 1:54 to get to the second whistle. Now I'm only about 93% as good as the world's best speedrunners (maybe 92% in my old age), so it's going to take me at least 2 minutes. (Alright, in all seriousness I actually forgot how soon the second whistle is. I used to always play through the whole first world, but I guess that was just to get that P-Wing after the first airship) Still, you know what could have taken less than 30 seconds? Selecting "CONTINUE" from the title screen. And I just can't agree that those first levels are "masterful." To me, they are basic, lacking challenge and are boring. Perfectly fine for a tutorial of sorts, but I don't want to replay them anymore. I mostly feel the same way as the early levels in SMW, to be honest. The difference there is that I'm not forced to replay them every time I turn on the game. SMW gives the player the freedom to explore the world at their own leisure. Once you gone through an area, you can return to it anytime you want. Once you complete the game, the entire world is basically your playground and you can start any level at any time until the end of time (or until your battery dies, whichever comes first). You are forced to disproportionally experience the early levels in SMB3 and I don't like it. How am I losing if I can play the game I want to play and don't have to play the game I don't want to play? And yeah, I read through that thread. I thought it was an excellent troll thread based on how ridiculous your claims were... until I realized you were serious. OK, yes I'm obviously familiar with that location and, like I said, it's not necessary because: Yoshis (and other power ups)are literally all over the place, and... There's not a single level that requires any power ups to complete them. And lives are given out like candy in this game. I don't even know what the "Game Over" screen looks like (if there even is one) because I've never run out of lives. Who cares if it doesn't save them? Anyway, I love Super Mario Bros. 3 and I give it a 9/10!
