  1. Just stealing this selective quote. I find sim games in general to be incredibly boring; more of a "run to the right and shoot everything" kind of player.
  2. My folks never played games. We got the NES for Christmas. Dad hooked it up and played a few rounds of Duck Hunt to ensure everything was working and that was pretty much it. They told us later they regretted buying it because we "wasted so much time on it" Still wasting time with it 30+ years later.
  3. I like both Halo and GTA 3 as options. GTA 3 is probably more influential, for better or for worse, on the industry as a whole. I think the original Halo might be the best game ever made, but it's sphere of influence is largely limited to the FPS genre.
  4. The Witness was a real letdown for me. I loved braid and was looking forward to the witness for so long. The visual style is neat, but it was the first game I ever returned on steam; it was sooo boring. I've never heard of Baba is you, but the name isn't really selling it to me. Obra Dinn has been purchased and is on my list, Tunic also looks neat so I could see myself getting to it one day.
  5. A bit ago I went through IGN's most recent top 100 list to see what I had or had not played. I made a list of the ones I hadn't tried and have made a bit of an effort to go through them. Here the ones I have since played: Portal Yoshi's Island MGS 3 Control Shadow of the Colossus Divinity 2 FF 3/6 Really enjoyed Portal and Control. Yoshi's Island and Shadow were pretty good. I did not like MGS3 or Divinity 2 and have resigned that I'll probably never finish FF 3. It's good, but too much grinding for my liking. Below are the games I still have some plans to try eventually: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Monkey Island 2 (owned - steam) Burnout 3 Fallout 2 Thief 2 Metal Age System Shock 2 Persona 5 Royal Return of the obra dinn (owned - steam) Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Silent Hill 2 (owned - xbox 360) Batman: Arkham City Dishonored 2 Journey Diablo 2 Fallout New Vegas Bloodborne Witcher 3 wild hunt Symphony of the Night (owned - xbox sx) Disco Elysium Portal 2 (owned - steam) Will need to check out the list posted by @Reed Rothchild as well!
  6. I liked this game a lot as a kid, but having recently played it all the way through again, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I went with a 7 - it's still good, but not something I'm jonesing to play again.
  7. Super fun game; easy to recommend for anybody!
  8. At the risk of turning this into a music thread...it's just too relevant. Also certified banger.
  9. I liked the beach volleyball match in Castle Crashers, and also the one in Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.
  10. I've always enjoyed ice hockey; grew up watching it on tv and playing the NES, SNES and Genesis games. I kind of lost interest in the video games once we hit the 3d era, but the classics like NHL '94 - '97 are still fun. As for real life, I played in a beer league for 10 years or so as an adult. The trophy was a keg of coors light . It was a lot of fun. These days I don't follow it like I used to, but it's still enjoyable if I can catch a game here and there.
  11. That was more or less my goal from the start, but it has branched out a bit. I'd like to get one full set just to do it and chose Dreamcast because it's a relatively small library and I already had a lot of the pricier games from growing up. Probably going to sell off some stuff that I don't really care about; namely vita and virtual boy.
  12. It's not a genre that I'm super into, but two favorites are Truxton on Genesis and Giga Wing on the Dreamcast.
  13. I currently have a Toshiba 27A32 which I got from a friend when he picked up a PVM. I also managed to score a 20M4U for free at the local dump. I'd been looking for any PVM for about 5 years, but couldn't really justify paying ebay prices. One day I drove through dump site and saw 2 pvms sitting in the junk pile. I took them both home and cleaned them up; one of them worked (pictured), the other did not. I kept the working one and gave the other to a buddy who is into repairs / restorations. I enjoy playing on both!
  14. Nice finds there, @RH! I remember WEGAs being all the rage! CRT is still my go-to for playing retro games. The "wrrrmmm" when they power on is music to my ears.
  15. It would be easy to call this stupid, but then again, I don't have 100k to drop on a video game, so maybe that makes me stupid. Instead I'll go with: "I don't understand this."
  16. I was always partial to 3 growing up. On any given day, 2 and 3 are more or less tied for my favorites with 5 being close behind. Mega Man 3 Mega Man 2 Mega Man 5 Mega Man Mega Man 4 Mega Man 6 I like all the games, but there's a pretty big drop off in my rankings above between the original and then 4 and 6.
  17. Rollergames is awesome! I played it last year and went as The Rockers as well. For that truck, @mbd39 is right on; you really want to try and get there with some health to spare. For me, I had more luck staying in the top left and jumping over barrels as best I could. Just keep at it; you'll get it eventually. Let us know when you finish it!
  18. I saw this in theaters with my wife. I don't really remember much about the movie itself, but I DO remember some lady fell asleep and was snoring loudly for pretty much the entire thing.
  19. Can't wait to grade my copy of Zoolander and make a mint.
  20. I did the same; I'm about 30 balloons in. The game is still fun.
  21. TIL Diddy Kong Racing is a fairly divisive title
  22. DKR is great! My friends and I had a blast playing this and Mario Kart 64. I've played it again recently with my son and it's still a lot of fun.
